How Long for Period

I nursed my son until he was 9 1/2 months. It has been 1 month since I stopped. I was wondering how long it takes for your periods to start back up.

What can I do next?

YOU ARE SO BLESSED!!! If I had this resource when I had my kids and breastfed, I would have asked...

"Why didn't I miss any periods?" LOL

EVERYONE is DIFFERENT.

I never missed any periods... I bled for almost the whole first 6 weeks with my first baby then had a little break - for my 6 week check up and only a few days later, I started my period... never missed one the whole time I was nursing!!!!

I nursed my daughter for 8 months and it took about 6 weeks for my period to start again.

Hi, J.:
I nursed my son and he gradually weaned. He was 11+ months when he decided he was done. It about 6 weeks later that my period returned. When I nursed my daughter it was more of an abrupt stop (which I don't recommend!) and my period returned about 8 weeks later. :)

I have just started weening my 10 month old daughter. I started this about 2 weeks ago. I got my period for the first time last week. I had all the symptoms - cramps, back pain. I still nurse at night - bottle's durring the day. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I think that it varies greatly for each person, I nursed my last child until he was a little over a year (because he refused to take a bottle!) and it took several months before my period returned. With my other two children I was on birth control pills even while I was nursing (the low dose one that is safe while nursing), so that kind of regulates it for you. I don't remember having any delay with either of them. I would just relax and let your body take its time getting back into a new rhythm.

Sometimes it can take a few months for your body to return to "normal". I got my period while I was nursing my daughter, but she was almost 4 months old when I finally started my period. I would've loved to go longer (I saved alot of money on tampax!!!), but, nature marches on. You'll get it eventually, and then you'll have to dust off those feminine products once again!! Enjoy your mini man!!!

for me it wasn't related to nursing... i nursed mine for about 18 months but my period returned about 11 months.

just be careful if you don't want to get pregnant... you can start ovulating two weeks before you bleed... and since you have no idea when your period will start you pretty much will need protection every time until your cycle is regular again.

I nursed my kids much longer than that, but mine came back early...by 3 months with the first, 5 or 6 months with my second and 6 months with the 3rd. I was exclusively breastfeeding, but I was lucky (haha) and it showed up only after that time. My kids all nursed past the 1st year...2 of them past the 2nd year.

If I were you, I would think about a pregnancy test if it hasn't come back in the next month...but you just might be lucky, and not have it come back right away.

I BF each of my children for two years each. (My 4th one is 16 mo. old.) For me, either month 10 or 11, my period would start. You don't have to wean in order to start having periods or B. regular.

My period started 6 weeks after my son slept through the night and didn't nurse every 3 hours around the clock. Everyone is different, some women get it even when they are nursing on demand, others don't until 3-6 months after weaning.

With my first one, my periods did not start for almost a year...and that was a month or so after I stopped nursing. With my second, they were irregular at first, but they started back up after about 3 months. So, it varies. But, just be aware that you can still get pregnant even though you aren't having the periods unless you use some kind of protection.

It depends on your body, you could start today, tomorrow, or one month from now. Depends on your cycle. Don't worry it will come soon enough and then you will wish that it had not. Take Care and God Bless

Varies with each child. Seemed to be 4-8 weeks after each was completely weaned.

Hi,
there really isn't any set amount of time before your period will come back. I have four and the times were different after weaning each one. #1-4 weeks, #2-6 weeks, #3-5 weeks and #4-9 weeks.

I nursed exclusively for a year and started mine about 2 weeks after delivery. Everyone is different. If you're concerned talk to your OB, otherwise enjoy the time off! Have you used any form of birth control? You may want to take a pregnancy test just to be safe.

are you sure you are not pregnant again? I got my period while nursing all of my kids, usually around 3 months of age. The only time I didnt was when I was accidently pregnant with my last little man. I'd take a test just to be sure.

Hey there, my son is almost one (next week) - we are still nursing but I don't have my period yet either. Sometimes I think that is strange, but really I guess it is just diffeent for every woman!

Every person is different. I got my period when I was still BF, my son was 6 1/2-7 months. I got PG with my daughter the very next month while I was still BF my son. I didn't have any period between my first two boys. I got PG with my second son when my first was 5 months. My friend got hers when her babies were about 3 months old. I know another woman who didn't get hers until after she stopped BF all together. I you don't start in another month maybe check to see if you are PG.

It could start any day now. But watch out! My first periods were very heavy. I would take an old towel to bed to put between my legs as I hurried to the bathroom during the night. Otherwise it was everywhere. This only lasted a couple of periods then things got back to normal.
