How Much Do They Drool Before They Start Teething?

So my boys are starting to become SERIOUS droolers, and I'm wondering if teeth are on the way. They can drool a steady stream all the way to their feet and soak a 1 1/2" rim around their shirts in about 2 hours. They have been fussier than usual, but not histerical. The biggest thing that makes me think they are NOT teething is the fact that they are just over 4 months old. They do chew when you first put something in their mouths, but then they inevitably go back to sucking.

Are my boys just lazy about swallowing? Could they really be going through this so soon? What do you think?

What can I do next?

My son is 6 1/2 months right now and he drooled like crazy for about a month 4-5 months old. He still has not cut a tooth but it is part of their developing the swallowing on their own process etc. It does pass, and then when they are teething I have heard it can start again. This sounds like mouth exploration is starting. Give them things that they can put in their mouth a nuk, teething toys etc. I have heard that at any age children can begin cutting teeth.

4 months is not too young to be getting first teeth. My son drooled for quite some time before the teeth actually cut through the gums.

My son was an early teether and started teething at 4 months and he was very drooly. I would have to change his shirts a couple a times a day (at the height of it). I would say that there's nothing to worry about. As for them not chewing as much right now, it's probably due to the fact that their gums and incoming teeth hurt. As the teeth come it, it will be easier for them to chew their food.

Hi Kryste! My little guy was born June 14th & started drooling & chewing (every sign of teething) by the end of August (not even 3 months) He did not pop his first tooth till the end of November (5+ months.) Now he has 4. My niece had 3 teeth at 3 months!!! After Jack popped the first tooth he became much less fussy with the rest. Good Luck!
