How Much to Feed My 7 Mo Old?

Right now, my little man, who is almost 7 mo old, is eating 3 TBSP of oatmeal with a 2.5oz container of fruit in the morning, and then has 3 TBSP of oatmeal and 2.5-4oz of veggies at dinner time. He has bottles throughout the day as well. Every 4-5 hrs.
I am wondering what everyone else feeds their babies at this age? When do I start upping the solids, and decreasing the bottles? Any advice is appreciated!!

What can I do next?

Read or skim the book "Super Baby Foods". This is an excellent guide up through toddler years for how much to feed them and what to feed them (health wise choices).

Our son (now 16 months) ate everything that was offered in the 1st stage of the jar baby food at 7 months. Our peditrician recommended formula until age 1. After age 1 16-20 oz of vitamin D milk per day.

Hi, J. - I have a 6 month old and she eats 2 TBSP of Rice Cereal with a 2.5 oz container of fruit in the a.m. with a 6 oz bottle of formula, at lunch she eats 2 2.5 oz containers of food (usually 2 veggies) and a 6 oz bottle of formula; snack is 4 oz of juice; then for supper she gets 2 more 2.5 oz containers (a fruit & veggie). My pedi suggested only 18-24 oz of formula a day, but if you're not sure, you might call your pedi, but you're not doing anything out of the ordinary in what you're feeding him! Trust your instincts!

you know your baby better than anyone else. i have been told so many diffrent thing as my 4 yr old was growing. she would eat a lot more than most babys would, she was a big baby too. she is now a toothpic it seems . my 13mth old was diffrent than that. she was a lite eater, when I was giving her baby food. now that I am giving her table food she can EAT, but she's only wearing 13 mth cloths. each kid is diffrent. as long as there not hungery, and there not eating all the wrong things, you are the best judge for them. my girls stoped taking there bottles so much on there own. they got more interested in the solids . if your concerned about giving him juice. i watered it down a little, she didn't know the diffrence. i'm only I hope this gives you a few diffrent Ideas

Hello J.,
I am a first time mom and I also work full time as well. my daught is 6 months' old now and she is getting baby food stage two three times a day. she does just fine with it. and has had no problems with it. she gets cearel and fruit in the moarning along with her bottle and vegtibles at lunch that the day care gives her and then she gets the meal thing at night ( this is new to her) she used to just eat veggies at night. but as her chewing skill developed the more she moved up. she is a big eater and with out the food we were feeding her formula every 3 hrs at 7 oz. she was just a hungrey growing baby that's all. But to give some advise the stage two food is the same as the stage one you just get more food in the jar then the stage one. its also the price. you just get alot more for the price! oh and my ped. said that it was just fine. she need the extra. food for her body.
Good luck I hope it helps you.

Oh my gosh! I haven't heard the name "Brett" in a long time. That was what I was gonna name my oldest, if Jenna would've been a boy!

You should check with your pediatrician to be safe, but if he tolerates the fruit and cereal well, it should be fine to try it. If he cries in between bottles, it could mean that he's still hungry. He'll let you know if he's not getting enough to eat.

I think that if your little guy is hungry he will eat what he is given. I introduced table foods to my girls when they were this age because they are able to eat finger foods and neither of my girls really cared for baby food!! If you want you could introduce some table foods which will help with all the bottles. You are the mom you will know what is right for your baby!!!

Stacy M. Throw your books away and be a parent. You do know that Dr. Spock was legally disowned by his own children as well as a number of the so called specialist?

J., don't worry about how much you are feeding your child unless there are problems. I had very fat babies who have become very healthy and trim children. Your son actually will listen better to what his body needs than we do as adults. Children eat untill they are full and stop. That is actually what a person is supposed to do. He will also change in his eating habits through out childhood. I can always tell when my kids about to sprout up a few inches by how much they eat. Not too much I don't have to worry about new clothes for a while, all the time, best start looking for a second job (just for the food and clothes and shoes!). Listen to what your son is telling you and not some book written by a so called expert.

sounds good to me. your baby will let you know when he is hungry and when he is full. My daughter is 6 months old and eats about 4-5 oz of formula every 4-5 hours + or - on both. she will usually eat 3/4 to 1 jar of baby food only the evening. But that's the way she likes it...she won't eat baby food during the day. Through out the day though she has juice and other snacks like crackers and teething bisquits. i took her to her ped today for her 6 month check up and he said her feeding habits her perfectly healthy and normal.

Hello J.. My name is K.. I have four children and I started them on cereal when they were about 2 months old. My kids are all very healthy. When they were about 4 months, I started mixing fruit in with the cereal. At 4 months-5 months, they would eat a jar of fruit/cereal in the mornings and a jar of vegetables in the evening. By the time they were 7 months old, they were eating baby food 3 times a day along with their bottles. When they would eat breakfast, lunch or dinner, they only drank half of their bottles. But they would drink a full bottle between their meals. If I do recall, my kids ate a lot of cereal/fruit in the mornings and 2 jars at lunch and dinner time(1 jar fruit/1 jar vegetable). It just depends on how much your little man can tolerate at each meal. Again, I had big babies and my pediatrician told me that everything I did was just fine. I also started all four of my kids on whole milk at 10 months old. Well, 2 of my kids had to go straight to 2% milk cause whole milk made them constipated, but other than that...my kids are very healthy and very smart.

Hi J.,

There are guidelines to follow so it's just a matter of selecting the type of diet you want to raise your child on. I bought the book Super Baby Diet because I am raising my son as a vegetarian. It has month by month guides on what you can introduce and how much. She also gives recipes and other helpful ideas.

http://www.amazon.com/Super-Baby-Food-Ruth-Yaron/dp/09652...

Many people feed their kids in strange ways but don't connect poor diet with sickness and developmental problems. What you feed your baby is one of the most important things you do as a parent so I'm glad you are taking it seriously.

Check out the variety of books available on this subject. I've list a few good ones below.

Dr. Paula's Good Nutrition Guide for Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers, The Family Nutrition Book by Sears, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Feeding your Baby and Toddler.

Beware of bad advice and don't necessarily follow your instincts because in my case bad eating habits are learned and very deliberatly unlearned.
