I would definitely do a discount for the entire day - probably closer to $10/hr, but just be careful that she doesn't start taking advantage of that rate. Good luck!
Hi,
I'm a preschool teacher and a mom asked me if I would babysit her son once in a while if she's stuck at work....
I said I would and when asked my rate I told her it was my first time doing this and that my co-workers charge between $ 15 and $ 20.
She offered $ 15 and later she asked if I would do it on a weekend too, like for a whole day (8 hours)....
She asked how much I would charge for that and I have no idea....
Do I stick with the $ 15/hour.....do I give her a lower combined rate .....sort of like a discount ???
What would you do ???
Thanks a bunch !!!!!!!!!!

When I taught preschool and would babysit on the side I did $15/hour no matter the day or length of time. Believe me, if you give her a break for a longer day they will start taking advantage of it. Also word spreads and if another parent should ask, it could come back to bite you.... "well Annie's mom said you charged her $10/hr for 8 hours" etc. Set your rate & stick with it.
No discounts! Your time is worth whatever you deem it to be worth per hour. Why discount it? You are still there x number of hours, right? I petsit and charge $20 to $30 per hour. I would think that people would pay more for their kids, lol. But maybe it's the area of the country we are in, who knows.
You know, just a thought, but I would charge $20 for the weekend. It's the weekend! Don't you have other things you would rather be doing? Or could be doing? Obviously it's up to you and the reasons you are agreeing to do this. But I would think hard about what you think your time is worth. And remember, NO DISCOUNTS!
I don't discount for a longer day. My rate is $15/hour and that counts for every hour I am there. I've never had anyone ask for a discount for longer hours. That seems strange to me that someone would expect more time for less money but maybe it depends on where you live.
I don't mean to sound rude but........If you start out discounting and accomodating others.........you are setting yourself up to be taken advantage of...........just my point of view..don't discount.
I always paid $10 and hour for high schoolers to watch my daughter when needed. I would pay an adult more and maybe add a few bucks on the weekend rate because you are giving up your weekend.
If she wants you to watch him bad enough, she'll pay. Oh,,,, CASH too.
On a normal day for my son its $40. Thats for a 9 hour day
I pay 45 dollars a day for weekends, if needed.
Before offering a discount, keep in mind that it's very different to babysit for 2 hours or take care of children an entire day (8 hours), including diapers, feedings, routines, naps, possible tantrums...
You work 8 hours a day Monday to Friday. There is no reason that you should be paid less on Saturday.
In any way, offer something you are comfortable with in the long run, as one week-end could quickly turn into a habit and the rate offered now will stick.
$12 an hour is the avg babysitting rate for 1 child in the us. I babysit for a living. I only do discounts for over night and extended sittings (over night as in i get there at 5pm and there till like 10 am etc.. or i have the kids for 4 days etc)

Hi i have my own daycare and if i watch a child for an 8 hour period on a weekend its at least $25 or $30
I pay $65 a day for daycare. I have had them watch our 2 kids occasionally and they have been kind and charged $10.00 per hour regardless of the day. They normally charge $10.00 per kid per hour but were nice to me since the kids went to the daycare. Hope that helps.
