So I was folding clothes today and thinking how dingy some things look and that I need to buy new underwear and regular clothes. Then I thought why do I always wait until stuff looks like that. Well I know, I spend all my money on the kids! It's time for me to balance things out, don't ya think? I buy the kids new clothes in the Spring, Mid-Summer and Fall. I should do the same for myself!
So ladies, how often do you buy yourself clothes? Am I the only one who does this?
@Beth, that was hilarious!!! I don't think I'm far from that.
@ Queenofthecastle You took the words right of my mouth. I am the same way!
Well its nice to see that I'm not the only one who does this.
I went to the store today and tried on about 20 different outfits. I didn't find anything at that store, but I'm on a mission now :P

How often do I buy myself clothing? Whenever something on the clearance rack jumps out at me. I'm not kidding, I'm a clearance shopper. Rarely do I pay full price for anything. I have way too many clothes, my closet and dresser doesn't even fit them all, but I can't help myself to a $4.00 sweater, ya know.

I hate to admit this, but I bet it will give ya'll a good laugh.
After leaving the ex and all the baggage, I lost 40 lbs without even trying. I realized that most of my clothes were pre-pregnancy clothes that I had worn even when pregnant and the girls are almost 5 yrs old. (plus sized to start with and although carrying twins, ate well and was same size post-preg as when conceived)
I do usually buy for my girls instead of me, but what happened one day convinced me that it was time to spend money on Mama!
I was teaching art to a class of kindergarteners when I realized something felt funny about my pants. I thought that maybe the waistband had slid down and reached to discreetly "hoist them up". It wasn't them. I had to excuse myself and head to the ladies room to see what the heck was up.
Well, my underwear had fallen down! The only thing keeping it from hitting the floor was that I had pants on! Thank God for crotch seems!
I ended up buying foundations first. I had to go down two sizes in each and was ecstatic although that was a good chunk of change! I then became super tired of pulling up my slacks/jeans and noticed that my shirts were starting to reveal too much. I have a new wardrobe thanks to my tax return! I feel fabulous!!!
Now to tackle the next 40 lbs!

The biggest problem I have with buying clothes for me is finding the time! I can't go with 3 kids in tow and our weekends are usually busy.

I'm all about end of season sales.
I just got about 10 tops from Macy's--nothing was over $10 AND I had coupons AND gift cards from Christmas!
(I also make a very good effort at purging stuff I don't wear or that's getting cruddy ALL the time.)

I usually buy myself 4 or 5 things each season, to freshen up the wardrobe. And I'm not talking BIG things here. For example, for summer I'll probably go to Target or Old Navy and buy a few new tank tops, maybe a swim cover-up (We live at the pool and the beach all summer). Stuff like that. In the Fall I usually get a sweater or two, maybe a pair of jeans. That's about it. Not a ton of stuff, and not expensive, but just a few things to make me feel good! So yes, I think you should spend a little money on yourself. You deserve it :)

Not often. My size hasn't changed since high school, aside from during pregnancy. I try to buy quality clothing, so I don't have to replace often. (I HATE shopping.) I don't consider underwear clothing, and I definitely do replace those more often then clothing. I'd say every couple of years, I buy a few things. I try to buy timeless pieces, so I don't look like I'm stuck in a certain time period! Oh, I also don't work outside of the home anymore. I haven't in nearly 5 years. If I needed job attire, I'd probably have to get clothing more often.
Shopping is one of the things I hate the most, so I avoid it at all costs.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I so need some new lounge clothes for around the house!
I usually buy myself "clothes" every few years, or when I realize I have nothing to wear because everything looks terrible. Right now I'm wearing underwear that should be in the garbage! Sad but true.
I hate shopping.

I've decided to try to drop 5-10 lbs so I can "shop" in my own closet and wear the jeans that used to fit. Does that count? Everything will feel brand new if it's not riding up and skin tight. lol. But seriously, I hardly ever shop unless a family member gives me a gift card. I have maybe 5 new things since 2011. I had to break down and buy new underwear and bras recently though. I figured I'm worth that every 5 years or so.

In short, only when I have to shop. I don't enjoy clothes shopping as much as some people do.

I love to shop and do so whenever I get a chance. It's hard for me to get to a mall or store so I tend to do a lot of online shopping. I wait for free shipping or % off sales to come in my inbox. I don't buy to much because my body type is not what it used to be and things just don't look as good on me as I want, so I return them. I would buy more if I had the body. Size 8 sucks. Your to big to be little and to little to be big LOL

Each season I would usually replace what I had tossed. However, since I have a new granddaughter, she reaps the benefit. I buy her clothes instead of myself. I only buy what I absolutely need for myself. Much more fun shopping for her.

Twice a year, usually, I will go on a several-hour-long shopping spree for myself to get clothes for the next season. I buy clothes for the kids a lot more frequently, but my husband shops for himself less frequently, so it evens out.

I usually buy a few things for each season, but I always wait until they're on sale or I buy in the off season. I bought a couple of good quality t-shirts and shorts for the summer from 6pm.com for a fraction of what they normally cost in the summer time. I like to add a few new things each season, it makes me feel good :)

I buy whenever I see something that is "me" or if I get a deal on Victoria's Secret thongs or something like that.
I still have a $250 gift card from Christmas that I have yet to use but I have spent money elsewhere on clothes. The card is to a specific mall and I just haven't found anything that makes me want to part with the $$ yet!
My last larger purchase was in February at White House Black Market. I LOVE that store!
I hate just going shopping and browsing. I'm an in and out person and make it fast!

I haven't bought too much in a few years. One reason is because for years I OVER shopped and I still have many residual items from that time frame.. They are mostly jeans (which are still in style and or nice shirts) However, I will shop more frequently for underwear/bras. I don't like those things to get too shabby... Otherwise, since recovering from being an over-spender :) I really have to watch what I purchase.

i would like a new dress to wear for easter, i was actually at the stores picking stuff up for DD and stopped to look, but NOTHING appealed to me, I like very plain tailored looking stuff, and I'm short and pudgey so it doesn't work, sigh plus i'm cheap, plus, i hate the effort of making myself up.
LOL my last big purchase was in the fall, i happened to be at JCP getting DD a free haircut and they came on the intercom and said they were clearancing out several racks and to head to the back of the stores where all clothing was 25 cents. woo hoo right? I did do well with several pairs of denim shorts and a few skirts but the tops were obviosly clearanced for a reason. I found a few i liked but other than that i haven't been shopping in a LONG time,
maybe you have inspired me :)

I buy clothes when they are needed. This applies to everyone in the household, adults and kids. For myself, I'm not into trends and such so I stick with classics and things I know I like. I do know what you mean by "why is my underwear like this?!" :-D I just don't notice until it gets like that.
I have never done the seasonal new-wardrobe thing for kids. Like "back to school" clothes. If they need something, sure. They almost always need new shoes by then, for example. But I don't buy them new clothes just for the sake of having new clothes. I also don't buy holiday clothes or special items for photos. If my kids don't wear dress pants in daily life, it would be silly to have them wear them for a family photo.

The kids get new clothes as they outgrown them or wear them out. The teen has gotten to the point that he's fairly stable in size so less often than I used to but he still gets things that are "cool" when I see a great deal on them (usually online deal: clearance + free shipping + % off coupon code is what I strive for). The little one is still at the stage where he needs new clothes for every season b/c the ones from last year don't fit. I am pretty much always buying him clothes - I don't do big shopping sprees. I do consignment and buy online only things that are on sale then put them up for later. I buy winter things in spring and vice versa. Just got him a London Fog winter coat for next winter - reg. price $105, paid $24. Anyhow, FOR ME, I tend to buy things the same way - piece meal - here and there. I look for clearance and discounts but do occassionally splurge when I NEED something (dress for wedding or event, etc.). Although I did just clean out my closet and dresser - got rid of loads of things I no longer wore. I realized that I hang on to stuff way too long - I still had things from 10 years ago and that I desperately needed socks! LOL
