How Often Do You Cut Your Toddler's Hair?

My daughter is 3 and has hair half way down her back. I have taken her 2x to get her hair cut by a professional and done it once myself (just a trim all times). I get mine cut every 8-10 weeks. Should she be getting hers cut as much? I wouldn't think so because hers is not colored, we dont' put product in her hair, she doesn't curl or use a flat iron on it. I should add that her hair is fine like mine so it's not really looking like it needs a trim and it's not hard to manage. She had it 'cut' by a friend of hers at daycare so I took her before only to even it out (even though there are still really short pieces!).

So, how often do you have your children's hairs cut? I am getting ready to make an appt to get mine done which is why I'm asking :)

What can I do next?

My girls got their first haircut when they were 10. Their hair had no split ends or anything and I never put anything in their hair with a few exceptions like special hair styles. My 2 1/2 yr old has hair about 3 inches past her shoulders and probably will get her first cut at 5 or so. My girls go for cuts every 5 or 6 months to get rid of the old stuff. They di not want to cut their hair short and like having it longer, though they do get it layered to help with taking care of it.

My daughter's haircuts didn't become as regular as mine until the last year or so and she's 7. That's because SHE wanted different cuts.

My son... His hair grows SO FAST, at 2 he's already had 7 or 8 FULL haircuts.

I take my son every 4 weeks and my daughter every 6 to 8 weeks. His is short and looks shaggy if I wait more than 4; her hair is longer so it looks fine but it's easier to brush if the ends get cleaned up regularly.

It probably depends on how fast it grows and what kind of condition it's in. My oldest has very thick hair that's hard to manage, and we get it cut about every 3 months. My youngest (almost 3) has thin hair that always looks messy, so we try to trim it about every 3 months as well. I think of it as "once per season", they need a trim to keep it manageable and looking neat.

my youngest son goes about every 8 weeks or so his hair is at the shaggier length but we cannot picture him w/ a buzz cut and my oldest goes about every 4-6 weeks for a buzz

Ha ha - my daughter has yet to get her hair cut (3 y.o. - hair down to her mid-back). You would think that it was me that would have issues getting her hair cut, but it's actually Dad that would be very upset if I did anything to her hair - she does have awesome hair, so I don't mind =)

I "fix" her hair every morning, wash it twice a week in cooler months (every couple of days in the summer), condition and it's either in a braid or pony of some kind =)

When ever it bothers you or when you feel she needs a new style. My daughter's is a little past her shoulder. When it starts to be really tangley all the time or looks really dry, then I take her somewhere for a trim. My son gets his cut about every month or month and a half because I can't stand hair over his ears or too long on the forehead.

My 3.5 yr old daughter has chin length, VERY thick hair. I cut hers about every 4-6 weeks, and have been doing so since before her 1st birthday. I've never been a fan of long hair, and especially with little kids, it is always falling in their face. She looks great with short hair, and since she has so much of it, it works better being short. I know, I have the same situation...my mom called my hair a "pelt" once because it is so think. Ironically, my daughter is adopted, but we have the same hair, color & texture.

i think little girls with long hair are adorable. as long as it's healthy why cut it? you would know if it started getting split ends and breakage. haircuts are not something a little girl "needs" that often, it's just vanity to keep it looking nice. it's up to you. i have a boy and i'm not into the long wild look for boys, i keep his fairly long to bring out the curl but i cut it when it starts getting down in his eyes. that's the only thing i go by.

My daughter is 2 and has really long, beautiful, white-blonde hair. I get it cut when the ends start to look uneven. I don't think they need it cut any more often than that. Like you said, their hair is not chemically treated and is healthy.

My daughter does have bangs (I'm not sure I ever should have done that), so we do go and get her bangs trimmed. A lot of places charge the full-price for a bang trim, but if you go to Shear Madness (at least the one at Zona Rosa), they only charge $5 for a bang trim versus the $14 or whatever for the full hair cut. I take her often to get bangs trimmed and they usually tell me that the back doesn't need to be cut unless I want it shorter.
