Hi fellow mamas! I have a 2 1/2 yr old who is having difficulty getting to sleep, which i understand is pretty normal. Our typical routine, is bathtime, and books (if not too late), then either myself or daddy will get her tucked into bed, by laying down with her, usually until she falls asleep. However, at times she will just cry and cry because she says she wants to stay up with us or go to our room to go to bed. (Sometimes I let her take her daily nap in my bed).. We recently moved into a new house (it's been about a month or so now), and i know it will take some time for her to adjust.. I just wanted to see if anyone else has any ideas to offer that we might try. After the holiday hoobla has subsided, I plan to go ahead and start potty training, so any pointers on that are much appreciated as well! Thanks & hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday so far =)

So What Happened?

She seems to finally be getting better somewhat, although I know it's just going to be a matter of time that she adjusts. Thanks for the book recommendation, will check it out!

We are not at the 2.5 yr old point yet! But, I am going to recommend a book that I consider SO helpful. It is "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth (sp?). It has taught me SO much about infant/toddler/child sleep habits and every new stage we hit, I find myself continuously going back to that book!! There are even helpful sections that talk about how to transition a child after events like a move, etc. SUCH A GREAT BOOK! Totally worth the $15...I got mine at B&N, but I have also seen it at Target in the baby section by the sleep aids (mommy bears, sleep sacks, etc.). Good luck!! :-)

If you just moved and your daughter is adjusting to that I would wait a few months before starting the potty training. I would tackle one thing at a time. If you want to spend most of your time for a long while laying in her bed until she's asleep that's fine to keep doing but if it was me I would tell her you will be there in the other room, she has to go to bed in her room and that you will check on her off and on. Then do that. IF you prefer to do the lay down with her keep in mind if anyone comes over or any thing comes up that you need to do you will be laying in a bed with her. I can say this because I did it with our first and only our first. Of course they want to stay up with you, they all do and yet they will learn if you say no that it's bedtime and they'll see you in the morning. I know it's hard to do it though because we feel bad for them crying.

Definitely read "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." Great resource. Sounds like she may be over-tired by the time you're putting her down. I noticed a lot less resistance from my daughters when I put them down early. This will sound silly, but at that age, they went to bed at 6:00! I don't know why, but an early bedtime makes for a much easier bedtime in my experience. Good luck!

All I can say is that I am going thru the same situation. My son is almost 2 1/2 and he likes to fall asleep in his bed with mom by his side, the problem is that he wakes up at around 1:30 am and starts crying because he wants mama back with him. I send daddy to sleep with him because I wake up early to exercise, but still it is very hard for both of us. We are hoping this is just a phase (he used to sleep all night). I will be buying the book that has been recommended. Thank you ladies.
