a de-humidifier may help. That's what we've been using because I've had the same problem this summer.
With all the rain, certain areas of my home smell of mold. What can I do to get rid of it.
Thank you.

We purchased a humidifier and within a day the smell of mold has just about disappeared. Amazing what happens once you get the dampness out of the area.
Thank you all for your great suggestions.

The only way to get rid of the mold odor is to get rid of the mold itself. Is it in the carpets? The walls? In the floor? The curtains? Use a dehumidifier until the house dries out and clean the source of the mold. You must find out the source of the mold and clean it completely with bleach or vinegar (don't mix them). If the smell continues, you may need a professional to come in and find the source of the mold and to help get rid of it. Good luck.
I buy those bags that soak up moisture. They hang and I got them at Walmart.Loews also sells them. They work great.I can't remember the name in Walmart they are with the cleaning supplies.T.
arm & hammer baking soda! buy the large bag and put it in containers around the house for a couple of days. It will absorb the odor.
Good Luck

I was going to say the same thing, as the other responder, that is due to the wetness, and start but getting a dehumidifier,
we had water in our family room downstairs ( we have a split level) there was water in the rug, we had to pull the rug out, and vacume up the water and put in some fans to air out the room for a few days and set up a dehumidifier to get rid of the smell..
there are also companies that will do that for you, but it isn't cheap...
good luck

Hi S., Mold is very, very tricky. Being married to a contractor, I have learned that if the mold is actually growing inside your sheetrock walls or behind your tiles in your shower area, you must rip them off and put up new walls. The same goes for baseboards. However, if they have not been actually wet to cause the mold, you might try washing everything in the room/area where you smell the mold with Shaklee's Basic G. It is a germicide considered safe for us and safe for the environment. I have customers who use it to wash mold/mildew off their siding on the outside of their homes. My husband uses it to powerwash our deck in the spring to get rid of the greenish mold that seems to appear each spring. Basic G kills all the pathogens that bleach does, but it is safer to use for us and for the environment. If you are interested in trying it, please contact me at ###-###-#### or ____@____.com It is highly concentrated, so one bottle will last you probably a year. Hope this helps - E. Taft emilytaft.com
We have been told bleach is one of the best ways to get rid of mold. We also use dehumidiers in both our cellar (which is finished off) and upstairs on our main floor. We have been running both all summer. We empty both twice a day. It is making a huge difference.
If the mold is outside a power washer will also help. We use it on our deck, and part of the house.
Baking soda also helps in the house to remove odors, and also for cleaning.
Good luck.
My mom swears by BioZap, this tea tree oil stuff. We just got a jar yesterday and I'm going to try it in our basement. I hope it works.
