My daughter threw up on the couch yesterday and I was wandering if anyone has any advice what to use to get rid of the smell instead of just masking it. Any advice would be appreciated, THANKS!

I used warm water with lemon and salt. 1 cup warm water, 1 whole lemon and two table spoons salt. Get a soft rag and wipe in circles over the area. Give that a try and see how it works for you.

Try vinegar. Apple Cider vinegar is the best, it's stronger. Soak it real good, leave overnight. In the morning, dab the remaining moisture. Let it dry naturally. It works. Well in some cases. I don't know how potent the aroma is.

Do this after thoroughly washing,......and disinfecting,(and if possible sterilize) of course.
Bleach if you can, without ruining your furniture.

GOOD LUCK.

PS
If it doesn't work, DISGARD. That a foul smell to live with.

There is a great product by Young Living called Thieves cleaner. It's a concentrate. You use a capeful of cleaner to a whole spray bottle of water. It gets rid of smells COMPLETELY and cleans better than anything I've ever used and it's made from essential oils...no chems.

If you decide to get it you'll need a sponsor number 860001

I second the spray with enzymes idea. My first baby had GERD, so we always had something that needed to be cleaned. The brand I use (and have used for almost 10 years with pets) is Nature's Miracle Stain and Odor Remover. You can get it at PetSmart, PetCo and Pet SuperMarket. It seems to work better than the other brands I've tried. After cleaning the couch, soak the cushion with Nature's Miracle and let it dry. You can repeat if you need to.

For future reference, Nature's Miracle also has a powder (Nature's Miracle Pet Mess Easy Clean Up) that you can use to soak up liquid accidents.

A.,
Armorall makes an Oxy clean upholestry cleaner. My son threw up in the car and this stuff took the smell and the stain right out. Also regular Oxy laundry stain removal spray (comes in a blue bottle with a yellow spray cap) works super great on stains and smells. I would try one of those first.

Get a new couch!! haha just kidding.

I would try the Urine B Gone spray that stuff is mainly for urine but it may take away the vomit smell since it's made with some type of amonia.

Hope that helps!

I use vinegar with some water. The vinegar smell will last about a day or maybe two but it takes away the smell of the vomit inside of the couch cusion. Let me know if it works for you.

A. the first step to take is to remove all of the vomit contents which I'm sure you have already done, but after doing so flush the area with spring or distilled water ( that is if it's a piece of furniture that can be cleaned using water).
To flush the area just use a spray bottle filled with the distilled or spring water - tap water is usually hard water and can also leave a stain- spray the area with the water and extract with a wet-vac, or a cotton towel. After you have removed all of the contents - the stuff you can't is that will cause the smell -then mix up a cleaning solution of 1.tbsp of hand dishwashing detergent to 12 oz of warm water, put the diluted solution mixture in a pan or bowl and whip up the mixture to create a lather. Using the foam only from the cleaning solution, with a soft brush ( i use a horsehair brush)
apply the foam only in a circular motion to the area to be cleaned and towel clean the area. Once you have done this mist the area with a mixture of 4oz of white (clear) vinegar to 12oz of water* Note using vinegar with dye colors in it might stain your fabric. Mist the area with the clear vinegar/water solution and allow it to penetarte the area for 30 minutes.
The final step is to apply an odor neutralizer, not a deodorizer which will just cover up the smell, Wal-Mart sells a an odor stain remover product called Odor Bane.
Following the product directions apply the odor bane to the now cleaned area and you are done. It may take more then one application of the odor bane so after 5 days if the smell is still present apply the odor bane once again.
By the way I operate an Organic Cleaning Services ( Delicate Fabrics, Rugs, Carpets etc.,)in Northeast Florida and even if you are not in my service area I will be glad to help you in any way that I can. My website www.aaronscleanrx.com has a free emergency spot removal guide and if that isn't enough help e-mail me and I will walk you through the cleaning process.

I use this stuff called Mother's Little Miracle. This one bottle is amazing! I used it on mine's rocking chair and our couch to remove spit-up. No smell remains. I'm talking total lifesaver. I think they carry it at Babies r us. Hope this helps.

a spray cleaner with enzymes... if you can't find one in a regular store (drugstore, grocery store) look at Lowe's/Home Depot. If no success tehre, go to Petsmart or Petco and look in the housetraining section. Most of their cleaners are enzyme based, which will 'eat' organic based stuff (urine, feces, vomit).
