Our daughter had similiar symptoms and we tried a few formulas before we found the right one, which was Nutramigen, while expensive it worked like a charm.
Hi, Moms!
I have an almost 5 week old daughter that I breastfed/formula fed for the first 4 weeks of her life. She is on Enfamil lipil now with the last of my breastmilk from the freezer. It seems that after every 3rd or 4th bottle of formula she just cries and squirms and is very gassy. I bicycle her legs which seems to help. She has regular bm's (at least once a day) but they are (forgive me for being gross) dark olive green and stink to high heaven which I'm sure is from the formula. Should I be concerned? I plan on calling her Dr. on Monday but thought I would ask for your wonderful advice first. I don't want to change formula just yet in case she is still adjusting to it. She's not spitting up more thatn normal. I burp her 3 times and then hole her for 10-15 monutes after she's done. Sorry this is long. I don't remember my son going through this. He was on Enfamil AR because he spit up so much. Thanks in advance for your great advice.

We switched formula from enfamil lipil to Parent's choice gentle (walmart brand) and that seemed to help for the most part. I think she is going through a growth spurt because it seems like she is wanting to eat every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I think she might still have some gassiness. The dr. said I could give mylicon drops if need be. He said give it a couple weeks before switching again if we have to. Thanks for all of your advice.

My daughter was the same way!!! We tried all kinds of gas drops and the leg movements and different bottles even, finally we had to change to Similac Soy formula. It seemed to help her within a day of the change. She no longer seemed fussy and in pain afterwards! Unfortunately the poop still stayed disgusting and stinky! lol
Good luck finding something that works for her! Many blessings to you and yours!
There could possibly be a couple of things going on right now. Our daughter was on Enfamil low iron mixed with tap water and had not one problem. Our son on the other had was the same way you are describing with your child. First we went to low iron like his sister and that helped with the stool, then the gassy crying jags were still going so I swtiched to REGULAR bottled water, not nursery water, and it was the thing that worked. The flouride in the nursery water upset both kids and so we did not use it. There is plenty of time to get the flouride in their bodies for their teeth. After I bought a couple of gallon jugs, I just refilled them at the stand at the store for about 25 cents a jug. Good Luck! Remember that it is not always an allergy to milk like the docs want to jump to!
Hello T.,
definitely change the formula. she's probably allergic to some of the ingredients. good luck!
