T.S.
What is he into? Does he play a sport or music, have hobbies? You'll get better answers if you tell us more about him.
My hubby is turning 40 soon and I want to get him a nice gift. I'm looking for suggestions for something nice and memorable since it's a big milestone. I've been stumped. I'm not thinking things like a party or a date night/getaway. Any help?

What does he like to do in his free time? Whatever that is, help it happen.
My DH loves golf, so I signed him up for a 4-day golf school.
If he wears watches, a nice watch would make a memorable gift.
My husband is an outdoorsman so it makes it easy (although I'm not well versed in fishing rods, etc. so I sometimes need help). Does he have a hobby he enjoys?
Like the idea of "help it happen" (something he enjoys) as Elyse E said. I think that's the nicest thing you can do for a person. Often, my husband puts his hobbies on back burner because we're busy with kids, or house projects.
Nothing would make my husband happier than a bass boat (I should start saving for his 50th). It will more likely be a new canoe :)
Good luck :)
Hmmm... I love the idea of Tiffany's. My husband surprised me with a special diamond ring from there in January. Unexpected, appreciated and I LOVE it!!!
Does he like to wear a watch? Necklace/chain? etc? Tiffany's if perfect.
Golfer? My hubby is a huge golfer and I would never, ever choose his golf clubs. He is a very good player went to college on a golf scholarship and played with many of the pros on the tour now. That said..... he has a GPS type watch that he uses to determine how far to hit the ball, etc and they all love it. All of his golfing friends have one of these watches.
Techy? I got my hubby a wireless Bose speaker he can have in his office. It gets Bluetooth and he can jam out while he is working. I have the mini Bose wireless and I love it.. ATT is where they came from.
Another techy product we bought this year was a charger by Mophie. Keep this 4x6x1/2" baby charged up and you have 2 ports so you can charge 2 laptops, phones, IPads, etc. Love this gadget. All 3 of us in our family have one.
Happy 40th to your hubby!
If you are not thinking vacation or tickets to something, then that is what Tiffany's is for. Or a watch or a Mont blanc pen.
We closed on our house on DH's 40th so we do joke that I got him a house for that birthday. We also bought his most recent car the month of his 50th so I take credit for that too.
Does he golf? New clubs? Golf getaway weekend for him & a golf buddy?
Wireless sound system for the house of he's into music?
Tickets to a sporting event or concert?
Kind of tough--we don't know him or what he likes!
Good luck!
I paid someone to make my husband a video of pictures from every phase of his life. I went and videoed his family and friends sharing favorite memories. Ithw video was great because it included so many great pictures and interviews from loved ones.
My husband bought a rifle. Lol. Your hubby have any weird interests he'd never buy for himself? A desire to play the guitar, etc.?
A nice watch w/an inscription engraved on the back
A special batch of beer brewed just for him if he drinks beer.
Commission someone to paint a canvas piece of art just for him, or you do it or you buy a piece of art he likes.
Buy him a nice desk for a special place in the house.
Is he adventurous? How about getting him a ride in a hot air balloon.
Book a weekend at a cabin. Just relax, hike, let him fish if he likes that.
If you live in the same area he grew up in, take pics of some of the places he frequented (diners, high school etc.).
Make a "book" of pics of your lives from meeting to engagement to marriage to kids.
Does he like sports? Buy him tickets to a game he can take a friend to.
Have a bottle of wine made for him
Buy a spot on a billboard for him (like on the way to work).
A trip away!
A concert to see his favorite singer!
A surprise birthday party at his favorite eating spot.
My husband has always wanted a motorcycle, I have never purchased one for him (he has purchased used ones) but I know he would love it
If it were me, I'd either want jewelry or a get-away…and guessing your husband probably doesn't want jewelry :), I'd think about a get-away. I know you said you were looking at more tangible gifts, but wouldn't it be nice to just relax in a fancy hotel even if it's just one night?!
I'd look into that. It's something he'll remember but won't be another "thing" that he may or may not use.
