I have a friend that owns a medspa. They use a supplement for hypothyroidism. I can refer you to her if you want.
Hi Moms, I have three active little munchkins. I was wondering if any of you developed any symptoms such as fatigue, muscle aches, mood swings, etc. well after your deliveries, that were ultimately linked to hypothyroidism? I am scheduled to have some blood work completed in a couple of weeks to check it out. I appreciate any information you could share. Thanks!

I had hypothyroid symptoms after my 2 child was born. She and my older child were 19 months apart but I was so tired, I couldn't function. I was also on high doses of prednesone during the pregnancy so docs thought it caused hypothyroidism. But my bloodwork showed normal for a year and a half. Then showed severe! I was pretty upset that I couldn't function for a year and a half when I had two small children. There are extensive tests they could've done to see for sure rather than relying on TSH. Be persistent. Alternative doctors such as a homeopathic or chiropractor can detect thyroid disease if blood work doesn't show it... Also, Armor Thyroid is better than synthetic meds. That's my two cents worth... good luck!
I had my firstchild 20 months ago and now my natropathic doc says I have subclinical hypothyroidism. She wanted to put me on several medications. I decided to do my own research. Please read the book hypothyroid what the doctors won't tell you. It has helped me understand the illness and treatment. I'm trying more natural treatment currently antioxiodants, guggul, sellenium and aswaganda. I also take maca everyday. Some people cured it with maca alone. Also Andrea Beaman, a holistic health counselor has cured hers through nutrition! She has a website you can check out. I was eating soy and kale almost daily thinking it was good but for us it's not.
I started three weeks ago and feel better already. I'm sure ny husband is happy the mood swings have drastically decreased. Good luck.
It's really interesting that you posted this...I just went for my well woman and the PA informed me my thyroid was very swollen and ordered an ultrasound and blood work. I haven't been able to do the ultrasound yet and my Dr's office called with the results today, but of course they called after the office was closed so I couldn't call back...I do have those symptoms though. They have gotten progressively worse since my son was born and have been really bad for the past couple of months.
HI.
I have had hypothyroidism for 16 years. Some of the most common issues women have when it goes undiagnosed is: weight gain, feeling tired, memory is really bad and some mood swings but really it is more like apathy - they call it the fog. You just don't care about anything. Hopefully it is not your thyroid. If it does turn out to be - make sure to read up on the issue - it is serious - that little gland controls so much in your body. Certain types of food - like Soy - are known to effect it too. When they first told me I had this I just took what they gave me and after about 5 years I started learning more about it and found doctors that would work with me - and I felt so much better. It usually is not as simple as here is a pill take it for the rest of your life and you will be fine.
some of your symptoms resemble " Fibromyalgia" , ask your doctor about it. Those were the symptoms i had when my youngest was about 3yrs old- all i wanted to do was sleep- and my body hurt all the time. even if i had slept all night- i still felt horrible. my doctor had run all the blood work on me- everything came back normal- took over 3 months to diagnose me with "Fibromyalgia"- . it is worth checking out. . if you have anymore questions- you may email me at ____@____.com
Good Luck.
Yes, I developed hypothyroidism, I believe after my first pregnancy. However, I was not diagnosed correctly until after my 2nd daughter was born. Your symptoms sound like hypothyroidism. If the blood test show you are hypothyroid, you just take medication. I tried the synthetic medications first but they didn't work that well for me. Now I take armour thyroid whichworks better for me. Make sure to keep working with your doctor to get your dosage right.
I had two pregnancies close together and after the delivery of my second child, I had a swollen thyroid gland during my routine physical. The swelling was confirmed by an ultrasound and my blood work was also off so I was sent to see an endocrinologist. She did a follow up ultrasound and the swelling had decreased so she told me to come back only if I ever had any symptoms of thyroid disorder. That was about 18 months ago.
About 2 months ago, I felt pressure in my throat so I did a follow up with the endo. The ultrasound showed no swelling in the gland but my blood level for TPOab (thyroid peroxidase antibody) was very high. She said that in essence I have a thyroid autoimmune disorder but that there is no treatment for it unless my thyroid function (TSH, T3, T4) level is off, which it is not. She believes all of this was triggered by the flux of hormones during my pregnancies. I do struggle some days with fatigue, muscle weakness, and mood swings but it's not everyday and I'm not sure it isn't just the stress of being a mom to two very active little boys!
If your results show hypothyroidism, it is completely treatable so try not to worry too much. Best wishes to you. :)
Hi S.,
I do completely understand. I only have 1 child, but my fatigue, mood swings and stress level was at an all time high.
Through a friend, I have managed to control it and actually feel great, awake, no muscle aches and not as many mood swings. A friend introduced me to an antioxidant called OPC+. It is new on the market but they are receiving a lot of testimonials especially from parents about the energy level and less joint pain. People are also reporting in about weight loss.
If you want to look into it the website is www.isxperia.com/S. I know they are beginning to sell in stores and through doctors but the website will give you a lot of information as well as an opportunity to buy on the spot.
FYI, my husband started taking it as well and loves it! it has helped with his high blood pressure and just makes him feel good and not get sick.
Good luck.
Yes I too aquired thyroid issues but during pregnancy. Be sure you go to a endrochronologist as a doctor. My pediatrician prescribed the meds but did not monitor me correctly (many years). the meds are prescribed in the morning. My thyroid is now mostly scar tissue and is shutting down and I need meds at night so body absorbs it. Plus the endrochronologist has other skills needed. I would also do research on what the thyroid does. It is facinating. Also, if prescribed meds---never never stop taking them. I almost died because a nurse told me my thyroid was good and I didn't need meds.
I did with my first child (back in the 70s) and my oldest daughter did after both of her kids. Hopefully they will check more than just the TSH.
I recently was diagnosed again with hypo, but it took my insistence before they did the complete tests that supported it.
The fatigue improves with proper treatment. Good luck.
