I Have a Style Crisis Please Help...

Try travel clothes - they have many basic pieces in a color scheme that works together and are in a material that does not wrinkle and is very comfortable to wear for a long time. I have several pieces and find that they are the basics that I can dress up with a jacket and jewelry or wear without embellishments for every day.

What you should be working on at your age is developing a wardrobe of classic pieces that are well made and last for a long time. F21 and stores like it are fast fashhion and the clothes are not made to last. That is why you are actually spending MORE $ shopping this way. These stores should be reserved for things like accessories and items where you want to jump on a trend but don't want to commit the $$$.

You should take a look at LOFT. I find this store to be perfect for your age group. You may think it is expensive but they also have a lot of sales (currently 30% whole store).

Probably not dressing your age if that is where you shop. Those stores are for the teens, very young twenties. I really like White House Black Market. i know that's pricey - but sometimes you can find stuff on sale. It also gives a better idea of the type of clothing you should be looking for, and try to find something similar cheaper. You get what you pay for - and the quality of WHBM is great.

In the long run, you are spending more money on clothes now because you are buying cheap clothes that are only good for 5 or less wearings if you are lucky. Top that off with F21 and CR being "teen" stores.

Read magazines and see what people your age are wearing. Watch some tv shows withthe latest fashions too. I refuse to dress frumpy and I am not going to dress like I am trying to be 21 again either.

I purchase classic styles of higher quality. I know it sounds crazy... I paid $125 for some Guess jeans 12 years ago. Expensive.. at the time yes but they are my favorite jeans, I still wear them so my expense has averaged....$10.41 per year with those jeans!

Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. That said, my favorite stores are White House Black Market, Loft, Anthropologie, Nordstrom's, and Bebe to name a few.

Buy classic pieces.. black pants and accent with fashionable tops. My favorite pants are from WHBM. When I make a purchase that ends up being a favorite pieve of clothing, I go back and purchase a backup piece identical to it so I won't run out! My current jeans are absolute favorites from Anthropologie and are SO soft, very form fitting (can't do form fitting if you have overhang, etc) $165 and I LOVE them. I'm in my 3rd year with these jeans.

My favorite cocktail dress was $400 from Neimans. I have been wearing that dress since 1999. Go for something classic. This gold dress is a classic and won't go out of style. I have a black short strapless velvet from Neimans that was about $400 too and I wore it a lot but after baby, my boobs were too big. However, it was a size 4 and altered to be smaller and my 17 yr old daughter wore it this year and it was stunning.

Another thing is to have a good seamstress and get clothes altered to fit your body.

Why are you shopping in teen stores? Both my daughters shop at FE21 and Charlotte Russe. You said it yourself, you are 35. And that is ok....the stores you shop at have to grow with you. At 35, there are stores like: New York and Company, H & M, Talbots, Ann Taylor Loft, JC Penney, Macy's, Kohl's, TJ Maxx, Marshall's. These are adult stores with flare. Do not expect cheap clothing in these stores, but then again you are an adult. Some are more inexpensive than others, you can catch sales at the dept stores and the 1 or 2 pieces you buy, will definitely outweigh the 5 cheap pieces you buy at the teen stores. Be proud of your 35 years and dress accordingly. Just 'cuz your 35 doesn't mean you have to dress drab or boring. Go check these stores out and see the difference. Also, pick up some magazines and see whats out there for you.....get inspired...Redbook, Cosmo, Oprah. Good Luck!

I'm 39 and for the past couple of years I've been shopping at LOFT. I really think it's the perfect store for people our age. They have super cute stuff, and lots of fun stuff to wear if you're going out, but none of it looks likes you're trying to be 21 again. They will often discount the whole store on Saturdays (40% off!) so try stopping in on the weekends. And this might sound crazy, but watching "What Not to Wear" has actually helped me a bit with my style. I think I could've been a candidate for that show a few years ago, with my old t-shirts and mom jeans. I feel like I've stepped it up a bit lately, and it makes me feel good about myself!

Besides LOFT I do shop at Kohl's, Gap and Old Navy. With a Kohl's coupon you can get some good stuff at low prices. Love their Daisy Fuentes, Elle, Apt. 9 collections. Just don't shop in the junior department!

I think it's more to do with 'coverage'-ie: no short shorts/mini skirts, no cleavage, and definitely don't don the word 'juicy' or 'pink' across your butt! ;)

Im 38 and I hear ya.....I was in a corporate job where I wore a business suit everyday -that's easy. I then worked at home and saw a few clients a week (in their office) so no suits required. That was hard....I got a few cute pieces to mix and match.....mostly from JCPenney. I used to get most of my stuff at Macys buy don't want to spend the money because I still have baby weight on. I've been home all summer and gearing up to start working from home again so may have to get a few new pieces myself to meet with clients again....I think I'll go to macys first. They do have good sales and clearance. Just stay out of the juniors sections

Its helps to have a15 year old that shops those stores (F21, Charlotte, etc)....my clue to get out of them ha ha

I buy a lot of my everyday stuff at H&M and not the Juniors side. I also shop at the Gap and Old Navy. Have you tried American Eagle? They have good sales. I can't stand Charlotte Russe as the price may be a bit lower but so is the quality.

I'm 49 and very small framed. I have a very hard time finding clothes to fit me. I don't really look 49, people think I'm much younger, but I simply can't wear some of the "younger" clothes. Especially pants. They are still hung so low on the waist that I'm afraid they will just fall off of me. I have no hips. I have nothing to hold them up.

I actually have found some very cute things online. I don't look my age, and with my small figure there is no reason for me to dress like an old lady. But some of the younger stuff, it's the fit I don't care for.

99% of my clothing is dresses and skirt suits. I have some really cute sweaters.

I'm going to search my house because I got the greatest catalog. It had some pretty great and fairly inexpensive things. I hope it didn't get tossed out because I had some things I wanted to order. If I find it, I'll let you know.

Check online. Check HSN and QVC. I have purchased many items from them and the nice thing is that often you can pay them off in 3 or more payments. I have always received compliments on my choices and the other nice thing is that not everyone will have the items. It's not like you have to worry about a couple of women showing up with the same outfit on.

Think outside of the box a little.

I'm 27 and very picky. In the old days I was a punk rocker and had a uniform that I'd don everyday - usually in all blacks and grays. I fell in love with color when I was pregnant and I abandoned total-masculinity. Still, my aesthetic has a bit of an edge. I despise wearing boring clothing.

I like clothes to be warm, comfortable, AND pretty. A tough order, and not cheap UNLESS I do it right.

I do like feeling sexy, but I can't wear anything that I have to pay attention to. Short skirts, for example, drive me bonkers because I'm a klutz and a tomboy. I've got to be able to move, play, and get dirty. "Girl clothes" just aren't made for this. I prefer an understated sex appeal: Lines that work for my body type, long and lean trousers with a form fitting top; a tighter skirt with knee length hem and a slouchy sweater; shorts with boots and a long sleeve button up, etc.

All sweaters are bought on sale or used. I will not spend more than twenty dollars on a sweater. Preferably much less. I only buy cotton, wool, cashmere, and silk sweaters with a timeless cut. I still have clothes from when I was 16 and I plan on having clothes in my closet for a couple decades. This is what my mom does. Wait twenty years and they are guaranteed to come back in.

I patch clothes and replace buttons.

I don't get clothes very often. I'd rather spend twice as much twice less often than get junk that is going to fall apart.

Undies and bras I get at target or Ross. I have small boobs and a thin frame so it's not hard to find comfy cheap bras. Ditto camisoles, undershirts, and tanks.

I geek out on clothes. I look through blogs and magazines and find inspiration in the natural world. I spend time picking out my "costume" for the day. Wearing nice clothing that feel good (and are functional) just makes me feel happier. I enjoy mixing texture and color.

I usually cover my shoulders and back, or will put a button up or cardigan over a tank. Just my preference. I have a few girlfriends who rock shorter hemlines and they look gorgeous. I'm just more comfortable when I'm more covered. Beach trips I throw this rule right on out the window.

I like masculine lines. I only wear leather shoes and belts. I like leather.

The trick for me is to think of developing a closet like a treasure hunt. I collect one piece at a time. No overhauls or total make overs around here. Just a slow collection and shift.

My favorite brands can be found cheap WHEN used. I just found this shop that has used Anne Taylor LOFT, J. Jill, J Crew, 7 for all mankind, banana republic, Barney's, etc. I won't spend more than 20 dollars on anything other than boots (once a year or once ever two years I will spend a pretty penny on boots).

I am a SAHM also and I have become the jeans and T kinda of person. Though when I do "go out" like on little dates w/ the hubby, to his family friendly company events, or our w/ friends (which don't happen very often). I try to dress nicely. I have a few light fitting collared shirts (hubby likes the look) and like 2 "cute" shirts that pair well w/ jeans. I can't help too much on where to buy them, b/c I get lucky at thrift stores. Plus I am trying to weed out the last of my maternity clothes. Well I guess I'm not really helping you out am I? :) though now u know your not alone.

Same as others have said..check out anthropologie, gap, TJ maxx/Marshall's/Ross, h&m. I also find a lot of trendier but appropriate pieces at target!
