What name did you want for your child but for some reason (family pressure, husband/partner didn't want it) you picked another name
I wanted Dakota, I thought Dak was a great manly name. BUT my two other kids said, "Are you kidding they (peers) will say where are you from North or South? So I gave them (8 & 12 at the time) a list of names and they got to choose. They decided on Dylan, however, my oldest calls him Dill Pickle, or Pick so I guess I could have had Dakota...............right??

What can I do next?

When i was expecting my son I wanted to call him with a latin (not latino) name - I am from Rome and we have many many names of latin origin, but the one I liked (Valerio) was already taken. I soo wanted to have Rome tied to my son's name, I ended up calling him Roman...I still love it to this day and everybody else seems to appreciate it too.In his case there's a real meaning to it and I love that.

LOL, cute story :)

I recently asked my kids, if they could choose their own names, what would they be? The answers: Alice, Sparkle, and Scotch.

Dear lord.

I would have liked to have added a second middle name for my son 'Trygve', pronounced Trig-vee) to honor my late godfather, but too many monogramed baby blankets had already been painstakingly made by the grandparents, LOL!

My daughters also wanted to name my son, before he was born 'Smitty'... they are so fired from naming things.

ETA: LOL @SONOMOM, I have a stripper name, BWAHAHA!!

Well, no this didn't happen to me. But I like your story!

My problem is there were so MANY names I wanted to use but didn't get the chance. 3 kids is only 6 names, sigh.

So apparently I'm going to make up for it by using the names for DOGS instead!

:)

I begged for our first daughter to be Rachel but DH kept saying no. Then we had another girl and once again he wouldn't give in. After the second was born and named he admitted why he didn't want Rachel. He said he associated that name with a stripper. Well then...if he had told me that in the beginning I would've let the name go!!! :)

I love your story!

I wanted Samantha for a daughter, but I have boys, so now we have a beautiful German shepherd named Samantha. :)

For our youngest my husband, oldest son, and I each picked a name (Carter, Jackson, and Matthew in that order). We couldn't decide between them, so my husband wrote them on three pieces of paper, folded them up, and threw them on the floor. The dog ate two of them, and Carter was left. Our youngest is now named Carter; I was hoping for Matthew, but he really looks like a Carter, so it worked out for the best. :)

I wanted Summer for my daughter. When I was 20-21, I was a preschool teacher and I had 14 two year olds. There was the cutest little girl named Summer who came on M-W-F and everyday rain or shine... she would bring me a red rose with foil wrapped around it. She was the cutest little thing!!! When I had my daughter I wanted to name her Summer and my husband said... then all the boys would say Summer sure is HOT etc.. and tease her... So then I wanted Brooklyn and my husband said they would call her a bridge... etc.. lol.. we ended up with Brooke. I always loved Brooke Shields and thought she was one of the last of the classy little actresses of her time and it is so funny my daughter is constantly getting comments on how much she looks like her.
As for my son... It was funny. He let me pick. He loved Carl Yaztremski and wanted to name him Yaz! My son owes me for not letting that happen! lol.

for my oldest I wanted Damien. My mom said no because it was the second son to the devil. Then I liked Wyatt. My parents said that it sounded like an old mans name... good thing I didn't down the road my parents adopted a dog who's name was Wyatt. :)

For my daughter I wanted Piper. I have always liked that name since I was little.. not even sure where I first heard it. But my husband knew a Piper in school and didnt care for her. He said every time he heard the name he thought of her.

But I do like the names they are named now and looking at them and saying the other names... they don't seem to fit as well as what they are named :)

Well, we never told any relatives names that we were planning. My favorite boys name was Jared. Our second child was a boy, and if I had my choice, I'd have named him Jared but my husband hated it, so he became Ian. Sometime not long ago, this discussion came up and my son discovered what I had wanted to name him. He was horrified and said that Jared was a terrible name, LOL

We didn't tell anyone what my daughter's name was until she was born for just that very reason. From the minute we found out I was having a girl she was referred to as "Matilda Cookie-Monster" but we already knew she'd be named Julia after my husbands grandmother. If I end up having another child, I'm sure we'd do it the same way.

I love the name Luke. I have been trying to convince my husband to let our next son be named Luke, but our last name starts with L, so he is against it. Seriously?!? That is the ONE reason he doesn't like it. Lame!! Lol :-)

I wanted Emma which was my grandma's middle name but it was too popular! I wanted Evelyn, which was my grandma's sister's name but my husband didn't like it. I still wish I'd used it. I liked Gianna which he thought was too sexy for a little girl. And Allegra but it reminded him of the medicine. Why did they use a little girls name for a medication?! :( the only boy name we could agree on was after our two grandpas, Jack Leland. But alas two girls later that wont be! He liked weird "macho" names for boys, which I shot down immediately.

I wanted to name my 2nd daughter Rebecca. My SIL was pregnant at the same time and said no. Her baby was going to be Rebecca. Turns out her ultrasound was wrong and he is Douglas :) For some reason, i had 2 more pregnancies (girls), and let her convince me to save the name for her. She ends up telling me after my last baby that she is done having kids! Oh well. I love the names my kids have anyway.

Hi, I wanted to name my baby girl, we knew that she was a girl before she was born. I wanted to name her Janette(pronounced) Janet. My sister kept harping on it that everyone would say her name was (pronounced Jeanette) my mothers name was Janet and she had passed away 2 years before. I thought what better way to honor my mother, My older daughter is Janelle, and i wanted thier names to match. Janelle with 2 l's and Janette with 2 t's.So my sister said name her Jamie, Then she jokingly said i'm going to kick your but if you don't name her Jamie. So right after she was born I asked my husband i said what do you want to name her, and he said Jamie Rebecca, because there are alot of girls in softball name Jamie. At the time my husband was a full time girls softball umpire. So her name Is Jamie Rebecca, there are no other students in her class with that name and some times teachers and aides will call her James (that was my fathers name) or Jamers, I like both of those nick names.
About 30 years ago a friend of our family named thier daughter Paige. Her two older brothers age 5 and 8 said her teachers in school will say turn the page and everyone will look at her (Paige). I always thought that was cute.

I love the names Abby, Emily and Sara. Guess what my BFF named her three girls LOL. She did start having kids 8 years before I did so I forgive her LOL. With our first I was positive our little girl would be named Loralei but when she was born she looked nothing like a Loralei. It just didn't fit. She has a very different name that totally suits her. With my son we had no idea and we literally named him five minutes before we walked out of the hospital.
