I get the eye twitch when I am either severely overtired or super stressed. See if you can get a bit more rest and if you are stressed out try some prenatal yoga. With both of my pregnancies, the only nights I slept well in 3rd trimester were after yoga. For my 2nd pregnancy, I did yoga three times a week - much better rest!

Hang in there!

This used to happen to me in all of my pregnancies, along with leg cramps. I was told it was just one of those things and nothing could be done, which was of no help. In my 4th pregnancy, I was seen by my primary care physician for a nagging cough and she recognized signs of a heart issue and sent me to the ER, where they measured by calcium, magnesium and potassium. I was critically low in all of those (causing an arrhythmia) and had to be supplemented with all and re-tested before being released.

Once those levels were normal, the eye twitching and leg cramps went away and stayed away for the remainder of my pregnancy. Looking back, I was probably deficient in at least one of those throughout my prior pregnancies but it was never tested by my OB-GYN. My 4th pregnancy was twins so that's probably what pushed it to a risky level where in prior pregnancies it was just annoying.

So...my recommendation would be to see if you can have these levels tested, or ask if it's OK for you to supplement. In general, supplementing with magnesium, calcium and increasing your potassium levels with food or OTC supplements is no big deal but with pregnancy, you want to be sure you have your doc's OK first. For eye twitching, the culprit is usually low magnesium or potassium, or both. There are foods that are high in both of these, but if your levels are really low, taking a supplement can help boost the levels back to normal fast and then you can maintain with foods.

Hope that helps point you in the right direction!

Muscle or eye twitching, as well as large muscle cramps, are often a sign of simple dehydration. If you do not already drink plenty of water then give that a try and see if it helps. When I get overly dehydrated I also sometimes get a twitchy eye.

Is it one eye or both? Lower lid? Upper lid?

It's very common. It could be from being tired, stressed, mine do it when I've read too much, too much coffee or tea can do it ..

My family has all sorts of neurological conditions. If it's a tic or something neurological it's pretty easy to tell. Your eye specialist would know. So just stay hydrated (dry eyes can be a cause) and eat well, and rest. :)

Good luck :)

Did you have an eye exam when you saw the specialist? Stress on eyes from needing glasses or new glasses will cause twitching too.

JB's response is one you should copy and take to your ob/gyn.

If you aren't drinking how much water your doctor tells you to drink every day, you need to do that. The uterus can begin to contract if it becomes dehydrated. Like a pebble that starts rolling down a hill, and doesn't stop, contracting because of being dehydrated can turn into full on labor, and you do NOT want to go into early labor.

A full bladder pushes against the uterus, and can ALSO cause you to contract. Don't wait to go to the bathroom. Drink and pee, drink and pee. It's really important.

Make sure you are drinking enough water to stay hydrated. Your body needs more water than usual when pregnant, and if you are dehydrated, your eyes might get dry and cause this.
