I Need a Church to Marry Us! Our Wedding Is in September of This Year.

I'm Catholic and my partner is Greek Orthodox. The Greek Orthodox has asked for a baptism certificate that I do not have nor can I obtain. I did do my first communion here in Illinois and there is no record of it. Catholic Church will not marry us either because of the certificate issue. We do not know what else to do. We've hit a brick wall now. Can a non-denomiational church marry us? if so, can anyone recommend any beautiful ones in the 60634 area.

What can I do next?

The Catholic Church is usually very good at keeping record. If you were baptized in a Catholic Church the church of baptism will have all your records including your record of first communion. If for some reason the Church that you were baptized at is no longer in exsistance(which is very rare) Check with the Archiocese that the church was in an d they will probably have your records. I hope that may help.

I found these that might work

For an officiant, try
http://www.decidio.com/local-businesses/officiants-chicag...

Also, check with the courthouse in the county where you'll be married. They should have a list of officiants. In VA, officiants on that list can only charge $50 for the ceremony, plus travel expenses.

I am disagreeing with a PP. I am greek orthodox and my husband and I were married in the greek orthodox church, but My big fat greek wedding was just a movie:) My husband is catholic and had to show his baptism certificate. I would try and contact the archdiosces and see if they can help you find your records. Good luck!

Some friends of ours got married in a Methodist church (I think) In Geneva and neither of them belonged to the church. I think they are hard to come by so you made need to make some phone calls.

I am sorry that I can't help with the wedding situation, but wanted to give you a heads up that you will run into similar issues when/if you have children and want them baptized Catholic. Try to keep some sort of record of the marriage if possible to avoid some of the red tape my husband and I encountered. (we are both confirmed Catholics yet we weren't married in the church and it was RIDICULOUS the amount of red tape we went thru to get our daughter baptized) Good luck and congrats on the upcoming wedding!! :)

A non denominational pastor could marry you. You would most likely have to go through some premarital counseling. Which is no big deal. But have you thought about renting a church and using a judge to marry you. You can rent some churches without using their pastor.

I'm assuming you want to get married in a church. Have you thought about getting married at a different location?

Good luck on resolving this issue and congratulations on your soon to be marriage!

most time a catholic church will marry a couple of one is catholic. So that means you can probably get married in the greek orthodox church (catholic). I was going to get married in my roman catholic church and have a catholic wedding even though my fiance was methodist. Have your husband contact his church and ask if both couples have to be catholic to get married. Did you watch My Big Fat Greek Wedding? He was't Catholic. edited... Orthodox church may be different than the roman catholic church. Maybe they will only marry you if you are both Catholic. Anyhoo, talk to your archdiocese about your records they may have them.
