What should I do for a dear friend's birthday?
Something fun yet inexpensive.
Every year I take her out for dinner & drinks but I'm thinking of something I can do that is cheap yet different.
Any ideas. She is in her mid thirties. She's married but doesn't have any kids yet.
TIA

What can I do next?

Not sure if this exists in your area, but in Utah there are a few places that do "art night"; basically they supply canvas, paint, aprons and you get to go paint a picture and they supply wines and tapas from a few great local restaurants. It sounds like so much fun to me!

You could set up appointments to see a psychic and get coffee afterward. A few of my friends have done this for fun. Some of them "buy into it" and some do not, but either way it is different and fun.

You could get pedicures together, perhaps at a beauty college to save money.

Or you could even picnic- gourmet style. Look up a cool hike and pack some yummy food, don't forget to bring your camera.

How about an mani/pedi place that has champagne?

There are also places you can paint something. I am not sure if you need a group of friends. I just googled paint and wine and this come up first. I am sure you could find a closer place: http://www.canvaspaintandwine.com/index.html

"Cosmic Bowling."
Its fun for any age.
Lots of bowling alleys have that now.

Hiking

Go to a make up counter, have your faces done. You are not obligated to then buy all that make up. But then you will have your make up all done and nice and feeling "special" and then you can then go out and have coffee some place. Versus having a "meal" meal which will be more expensive.

What's she into? Concerts, a comedy club, a sporting event? Do you guys have something you enjoy doing together, like taking a hike or going out for a mani/pedi?

Recently a friend and I went to a paint your own pottery place for happy hour. It was BYOB. We brought a bottle of wine, some cheese, and had a great time painting.

Or the 2 of you go somewhere for pedicures together.

Or have a game night out - a fun bar with a pool table or air hockey.

In the past I've done comedy club/improv show and dinner. We have a riverboat near us that is inexpensive.
What I recently found was a two hour walking history tour by Spirit Expeditions. They let you use their ghost hunting equipment after the tour (I saw it on Groupon). I have quite a few friends that love the show ghost adventures.
I bought it and am taking my kids and SO (also ghost hunters fans) and planned on getting dinner downtown first.
