My co-worker has a little girl who will be 4 yrs old the beginning of next month. She's afraid it will be too hot outside for a party and is looking for ideas in the San Jose and close surrounding areas. She will have a large group of people and a good mix of adults and kids. She is on a small budget so any ideas should be economically friendly.

What can I do next?

I was at a birthday party for a 1 year at one of the best parks I have ever been at. There is a large picnic area with some tables under huge shade trees and there are tables out in the sun. There is a larbe BBQ pit. You can get a gazebo tent and put one of the tables under it and you can get another gazeebo tent and put little kids toys in that for like the 2 and under. Bathrooms are located right next to that picnic area and there are playgrounds for all ages from toddler to junior high. There is enough grass area to play football, volleyball, etc.

Murdock Park is 11.5 acres, has restrooms, 12 picnic tables, 2 BBQs,

3 playgrounds, and 4 lighted tennis courts

The name of the park is Murdoch Park off of Lawrence Expressway and Bollinger. Wunderlich and Castle Glen,
south of Bollinger east of Lawrence Expwy.

You can have everyone bring their favorite dishes. This will save on buying food for everyone. You really don't need a jumper because of the playgrounds for the kids.

My niece had her 4th birthday at Pump it up and it was so easy! its a few hundred dollars (200-300) but it comes with pizza and drinks. And there is no clean up you have to worry about! good luck!

Dear K.,

Your friend can get a 6 - 10 day extended weather forecast. There are plenty of parks in Santa Clara County that have playground, picnic areas and lots of shade trees. For large groups, one can call the parks department and reserve an area for a small fee. (I like Mitchell Park in Palo Alto and Rengstroff Park in Mt. View), but that's just a couple out of so many.
The area can be decorated with balloons and streamers, your friend can provide cake, drinks, and make it a pot luck BBQ where family and close friends bring something and other guests just come with their kids.
I really dislike those big noisy place like (The Jungle), what a rip off...the food is lousy, the cost is high, the employees (mostly teenagers) do their best, but you can tell the are told to get you in and out as quickly as possible. They want the kids out to spend more $$ in their arcades.
In a park kids can run around as much as they like, get fresh air and exercise and won't be begging for more quarters.
Happy Birthday!

Not sure how small her budget is. But Themefest in south san jose is fun. For all ages. I had my daughters birthday party there. You only pay for kids. Flat rate for a certain amount of kids. I had a ton more adults than kids and they all had fun too. themefest.com I think that is the website. We ordered pizza. They get a discounted rate. Then to make sure I had enough food (with my small budget) I brought some finger foods and snacks as well.

There is a Pump It Up in Sunnyvale. Right off Lawrence Expwy. It's a great space and lots of fun!
