Ideas for Mothers Day.....

My husband has been asking me what I would like to do for mothers day and for some reason it has been difficult to come up with ideas. Does anyone have a story they could share or ideas that sound interesting. My husband's mother will be out of town and my mother has plans, so it looks like I get to decide. I prefer spending time with the kids, but I am up for sneaking away for some me time as well. My husband has been asking if I want a massage or something like that. I just don't spend much time thinking how to pamper myself. I know I would be happier if I did, so I'd like some thoughts about ways other moms take the time to relax and give themselves some time to unwind.

Any thoughts from you mommies out there? Happy MoM-day to you all!
G.

So What Happened?

I think mother's day is a nice time to celebrate the work of mom's around the world and I am grateful to take a day to think of this selfless work. I ended up hanging with my family the whole day. We went for a drive in the mountains, which today is a luxury with gas prices. My husband cooked a wonderful BBQ dinner which sounded healthier and yummier than going out to eat. I was given a gift certificate to go and get a massage, but I have been busy because of the death of my dad recently and haven't been able to use it. I think after this stress I could use it about now. Thanks for everyones ideas, I am always open to try new things and hear what others think of doing to celebrate their year of work in our business called motherhood.

Sinerely,
G.

My mom, dad, brother and two sisters, always went to the zoo on monthers day and sailing on fathers day. Now I always want to be around animals on mothers day and near the ocean on fathers day.
Hope you have a great day!

I don't know about you, but I craved uninterrupted sleep. After I stopped breastfeeding my firstborn, I went to a bed & breakfast in the mountains about an hour away with a chick book and my scrapbook. I had a lovely time. I was able to recharge my batteries, took naps, hikes, went to a darling gift shop- all the things you dream of- that you haven't been able to do in a year. I even got some scrapbook pages done. I came home refreshed. After telling my girlfriends what I had done, they said "I want to go next time!".
Thus began a bi-yearly gals getaway to bed & breakfasts for the last 15 years! Now when things get hectic, I know I have a retreat to look forward to.

Hi G., I think it would be nice to go get your nails done and a pedicure. Thatalways makes me feel so good and a great way to start the summer. But maybe this is something that you do anyway all the time. I have a 17 year old so if anyone's nails get done it is usually hers for a dance or special occasion.
You could go to a spa nad get a package deal with a facial, massage andget pampered. My daughter is a massage therapist...she is so busy I hardly get in to see her but it is fun when I do and so relaxing.remember to drink lots of water after you have a massage though. Many people say they feel icky the next day after they have amassage if it is deep at all...and that is why. They have not drank enough water. It helps move those toxins out and they just make you have aches and a headache if you do not drink lots of water. she sends all her clients out with a bottle of water after a massage.
Let's see you could enjoy including the kids and Dad could make a big deal about something that includes them...I forgot how old you said they were...after all it is their Mom that it is the day for.
One year my husband took over all the responsibilities that I normally did for a whole night and day.Right down to laundry. That was nice.
There arealot of things that you probably would like to do...I just went garage selling the whole day one year because I love to do that but always have other responsibilities to handle....are there some girlfriends that youhave that you all can get together and spend the day without having to think about taking care of anyone else?
Hope some of these help. But i would sure take advantageof the day...LOL L.

If you have any girlfriends that are interested see if you can find a salon that has mutiple pedicure chairs. Then you can get some pampering & girl time. I think some of the higher end salons even have packages that include champagne & goodies. Splurge a little it's Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day! Enjoy!

I always love to get my house cleaned by a house keeper on Mother's Day. I know it's not sweet and special, but it's so amazing to walk into a clean house.

As far as the day of, I hate going out with the young kids because it can be stressful. I love playing with my boys while my husband takes care of all of the chores like meals, diapers, etc. during the day. It's really nice to snuggle with my oldest while the younger one naps.

Don't bother to think about how to pamper yourSELF --- have him buy you a package at a local spa. Pampering is meant to be done by others. :)

Maybe you could go out for a massage and meet him and the kids at the park for a picknik or go out for icecream or something. He could pack up the kiddo and get everything ready while you are gone for a bit. Do you remember the stuff you liked? Getting your hair done or sleeping in or getting a pedicure? Enjoy this one since you get what you want! In a couple years it will be burnt toast and fresh squeezed orange peel ON your bed, lol.

What about both, time with the kids and alone. If you prefer mornings how about having your husband take your child away and give you time alone then do lunch together. Or you could go shopping alone and have them stay at home.

Good luck and happy mothers day!

Man, I love that B&B idea! I wish I could afford that!

The spa pampering is always good, too. Although I love this, my husband always feels guilty that I don't have something to open. Whatever, I always tell him, just give me the goods in the form of a gift card, put it in a box, put a bow on it, WHATEVER! LOL

I started a Mother's Day tradition that I really want to see continue indefinitely, and you may like to find something similar for the time-with-kids part of your Mother's Day. Last year I wanted to go golfing with my family, which is neither cheap nor easy w/ a 3-y-o, but that's what I wanted. Well, Highlands Golf, a little par-3 club up on Pearl St heading to Pt. Defiance, is just perfect. It's easier than a "real" course (which is great for me b/c, despite my love for the game, my talent is lacking), it's great b/c last year and this year my now 4-y-o will be able to play in the sand or hit with his plastic clubs, it's a course that doesn't mind slow play b/c it's mostly seniors, and it's rarely if ever crowded. I had a blast last year, and I really look forward to doing that again with my "boys" this year and many to follow, especially when my son will come to outdrive me, etc! :-)

Think about what you like to do with your family, and then find a special way to do it. Make it your day, or make it a family day. The great thing is: you get to decide. And guess what? Deciding not to decide is a decision! I know, terribly philosophical! LOL

Have a great Mother's Day!

What I started requesting several years ago for Mother's Day was a "day off"! Being an at-home mome, I was able to enjoy spending time with my children each and every day & got a good dose of "mom's day" on a regular basis. What I looked forward to as a special treat, though, was to spend time with some girlfriends (other moms!) in a grown-up environment with some uninterrupted conversation and fun! So I proposed to my friends that we head to the "City" for an afternoon stage play and then dinner, while our hubbies spent the day with the kids. It was a win-win because us moms got a brief "get-away" and the children got to spend the day doing something fun with just dad! It was always fun to then come together and share the excitement of our days. I no longer live in the same state as the group of friends I used to do this with, and I miss it tremendously. Hopefully I'll be able to encourage some of my new friends up here to give it a go!! Whatever you decide to do, appreciate the fact that your husband is aware enough to seek out what YOUR wants are for the day! Happy Mother's Day ~
