OMG I loved the Hunger Games trilogy! If you did not get books 2 and 3 I highly recommend them. I heard that the Jenny McCarthy book was great also.
So, I finally got my Kindle. I've never been a huge reader, b/c I've just never had the time to actually *finish* a book. I'm hoping to find some great books that I just can't put down. My first purchase was The Hunger Games and I'm really enjoying it! I also got 7 Days to Say I Love You, which I haven't started yet. I tend to gravitate toward non-fiction- memoir type books. What are your favorites and why?

Read The Help! Great book! I have not seen the movie but the book was very good!
Can't think of any books offhand but you need to go on Amazon and check out all the free books they have. I think it is over 47,000 books.
I suggest the 5 Love Languages by Dr. Chapman to every single couple. It's an excellent book.
I am ADDICTED to my new kindle!! I have a ton of 'samples' already loaded, I just went on Amazon and went nuts.
I've only finished one book on that thing so far, 'Smooth Talking Stranger' (in the $3.99 and under category), it was one of those trashy sex type books BUT it actually had a really good plot and I CRIED at the end!! I never cry over books!! Very pleasantly surprised by that one :)
HAVE FUN!!
Everything by Ann Patchett is wonderful, and she writes fiction and non-fiction.
The Battle Hymn of the Tiger-mom book (can't remember the exact title) was great - also non-fiction memoir type, by Amy Chua.
This Beautiful Life - I don't remember the author, but it is about how a 15 year old boy receives a sexually explicit video text from a 13 year old girl, and then he forwards it to a few of his friends. It ruins his and his family's life (and of course the girl's life, too). It's a wonderfully written book that explores the complex emotions and complications of blame and guilt involved in a situation like that, especially since the kids involved are so young. It was really good.
Someone To Run With by David Grossman - excellent book set in Israel about a boy and a dog and the people they meet.
The Space Between Us (don't remember the author) - wonderful book about a wealthy woman and her servant and the bond they forge in the Middle East.
I teach English, and I am very particular about the books I read. I don't enjoy them unless they are well-written, and all of these are excellent. Enjoy your new Kindle, and happy reading! :)
I've opened up my pallette a little bit since I've been on Amazon. If you search through their website, you'll find a lot of new gems, young or new writers, cheap books that are free or a buck or two. I found one book that was only 99 cents even though at the time it was 15 in the stores. It was on a banned book list. I guess Amazon sells banned books sometimes for 99 cents so that people can read and decide about the book. That same book is full price now.
Explore and have fun. I've downloaded many free books that I haven't started and sometimes the free books are only teasers.
I just got a Kindle touch and really love it... I would suggest checking with your local library... many of them have e-book d/l for free... just check it out! I got a membership with my local library and got the free membership to this huge online library they are members of.... you get to "check out" a book for 3 weeks, then it goes away.
Right now, I'm being cheap... I browse the free books through the Kindle store... that will keep me busy for a while. I do have a couple of books I want to buy in the future, though.
My favorite is Sandra Brown.
But I go through the Free Books and have read so many GREAT ones since I got my Kindle last March - try that!
I bought my kids Kindles for Christmas and I've been sneaking it out of their rooms after they go to bed -- I'm going to have to get one for myself soon! I've read the first Hunger Games and thought it was good. The Help was good, and Water for Elephants was terrific. Others that I read years ago that are on my wishlist for a re-read are both by Robert McCammon - A Boy's Life and Swan Song. btw - if you're an Amazon Prime member, you get one free "loaner" book per month - that's how I got the Hunger Games.
"the five people you meet in heaven" by mitch albon.
but the story is simple, an older generation combat vet has gone through his adult life with a war injury and a sense of never had done anything with his life, when he dies in a accident..( read the story, trust me), "a dogs purpose", is another very good book, "i was going to get it for my sister, read the first few pages, and was hooked. lance armstrongs book, "its not about the bike" was another good one. "love stories from world war two" comes highly recommended .i gotta go check on my toddler
