Ideas for Where to Have Son's 2Nd Birthday Party

The Dilemma: we live in a tiny townhouse and are inviting 18-25 people (mostly adults, 2-6 kids invited ages 18 months to 14 yrs) so we do not have room to do a party at our house. Last year, for his 1st bday we rented out a community center in my parent's neighborhood, but that cost 100 bucks and I'd rather not have to do that every year! He's not old enough to do like a Chuck-E-Cheese type place and the older kids would be bored there. It's mostly adults, so not really a kid birthday party. My mom's house is too small, our only other option would be my sister's house, which she's offered. However, she lives in Colorado Springs, which is over an hour drive. My family would have no issues with this, but I think it might offend my husband's side of the family. Like we are holding it far away on purpose to alienate them (long story... we already get in trouble for not "including" my hubby's side of the family enough, ugh). It would especially alienate his grandparents, who could not make the far drive.

His bday is in Novemer, so living in CO, any outdoor venues are out.

Ideas??? What should we do??? I'm stumped. Two parties for each side of the family? Or is that ridiculous??

What can I do next?

Hello,
Have you thought of an indoor swimming pool OR maybe an indoor amusement park that is geared for kids of all ages?

In regards to 2 separate parties, I can see you having just a family get together(like supper out) for one side & a bigger party (where most of the people would attend) for the other.

Best of luck & I hope this helps,
C.

You could do 2 parties. That would be fine. You don't say when his birthday is.

If you wait until Thanksgiving, you can do one party with family you visit then and do another party with the other side, or if you visit both sides on Thanksgiving, just bring a cake to each house as the dessert.

Of course, if you do wait, have a small cake and give him presents from you ON his actual birthday.

Since its mostly adults have a birthday dinner at a restaraunt. Everyone like to eat. lol. Reserve so the restaraunt know that you have a big number of people coming. Bring the cake, sing happy birthday, and take pictures. The servers can even sing happy birthday too.

You could certainly do two parties, but that seems inconvenient for you. Drive an hour to use someone's house? With the price of gas, the community center is probably about equal! Two parties would get pricey as well... again, back to the community center cost thing. Two cakes, two sets of meals, gas tanks to and from your sister's house... for everyone.

What about having it at a local pizza place? Invite everyone to come for lunch or dinner. Serve pizza, salad, garlic knots and cake. You could hire a balloon person to come and do balloons with the kids. My son went to a party recently with a huge age range, but they ALL loved the balloon guy! You could hire a magician or a face painter instead if that's more of what your little one would like!

Do you HAVE to have a party? Why not just take him to do something fun for HIM for this birthday? Or take a weekend trip. He won't remember a party, and won't care about a party. If family wants to join your activity, then tell them they are free to tag along.

A bowling party, then everyone can participate and you can get great memories helping your two year old roll the ball.

Do something that pleases him and the family so everyone canhave a good time. Maybe go to a moon bounce place or something. Fun for everyone! Or some kind of themed party to his liking at the park or somewhere.
What does he enjoy?

we actually had the same thing last year for my sons 1st b day. We actually ended up doing three parties! call me crazy! We did a "friends and moms only" b day party (there are several young moms we hang out with here in our area). Then a small family party at my house with my side, and went out to eat at family resturant with my hubby's side. It worked well for us. We kept both the ones at our house very cheap, so it wasn't a big expense, and we got to invite everyone!:)
