Ikea Mattresses (And Beds)

We are considering a twin bed from Ikea for my son. However, the mattress for the bed we like must not be more than a total of 5 1/8" thick in order not to exceed the safety marking. Hence, we'll need to buy the mattress from Ikea (they make them this size). This bed does not have a traditional box spring -- it's just a thin, foam mattress. However, the nice thing about the bed is that it fits really well into his tiny bedroom in the "right way"...so we really like the bed.

1) I would like to hear your experience and opinions of this type of mattress/bed. I am concerned about the quality of such a thin mattress -- and any impact on my son's back and body.

2) Can I buy regular sheet sets for this thin a mattress? I wasn't wow-ed by any of the Ikea sheet sets and would rather purchase something else. But if a regular twin sheet set and comforter won't fit on this mattress, I would like to know ahead of time.

Thanks for your thoughts!

My son's first bed was an ikea bed. The mattress is a little thin, but we have never had any trouble with it. It is foam, so we covered it with plastic. I thought it would be thin too, but is was surprisingly comfortable and we still have it and it's almost 6 years later.
We bought regular sheets and used them with no problem. The Ikea sheets don't fit any better then regular ones. The only problem was with the blanket- becasue the sides of the bed come up, the comforter doesn't lay that well over the sides of the bed.

My son has a bed from Ikea and we also have the mattress you are talking about. Even though it is thinner than a traditional mattress, I find it rather comfortable. It's reasonably soft, but on the flat surface of the bed (no box spring), it provides a nice amount of stability and support. Personally, I don't have any problems with it, comfort-wise. My son seems fine in it as well, and has never complained. We do use regular sheets on ours. You just have a little more to tuck under the mattress when making the bed, but otherwise, they fit fine. And that's actually not a bad thing, because it keeps the sheet more securely on the mattress, no slipping up the corners or sides and popping off. Another nice thing about it is that it's easy to transport, as it is rolled up when you buy it!

I definitely recommend it.

Both of my son's have bed's from Ikea. When you actually lay on them they are quite supportive. We bought the higher end one. They have regular sheets and they fit fine!

My daughter has an Ikea toddler bed and an Ikea Blunda mattress. I lay down with her to read her stories at night and it's actually quite comfortable.
I just bought an Ikea sheet for the mattress, as the toddler beds have an odd size (it's between a crib and a twin) and regular sheets won't fit.
We also had an Ikea crib mattress for our non-Ikea crib before and any regular crib sheet fit just fine.
Good luck!
