Hi J., i think i may have the same thing with my son. I don't know what it is. I try to call the doctor but can't get through the line......
hi i also live in guam we have 4 children it sounds like it might be heat rash my kids started to get it more often when we moved coz of the hot weather
hope i was helpful K.
I suggest you have the doctor take a look at the rash, but several things to consider,
1) the type of detergent you are using to wash the baby clothes.
2) type of baby powder.
3) type of formula (milk).
4) or it could be heat rash, consider making the baby wear cotton materials clothing.
Hey J. ,
Don't worry. Baby's are bound to get rash ! No need for panic. Your mom n law is right. But baby's skin are so sensitive. They could be getting rashed from lots of things. Including detergent soap you are using on baby clothes. Also , any lotion or powder you are using. Might irritate his skin. My sons case. He would get all red and rashes on his face , stomach , neck. Due to weather. He was a baby that needed to be in aircon. Everytime , when he is not in a cool place his skin gets irritated and starts getting all ichy and red. He is now 7 yrs. old and still has the same till today. So it's okay when these type of things happen. So you can find out w/ Doctor on things your baby will have alergies on for future Reference. I hope this will help you alittle.
Take Care ,
J.

The best thing to I think is to try to get ahold of your baby's doctor and let them know the situation. They might end up asking you to bring your baby in to see it. Maybe it is the baby wash but you can never tell. I'd also advise that you always go with your own motherly instinct. I know we have mothers, and aunts, and older siblings who tell us what could be wrong and they say that they are right because it happened to their kids, but every single baby is different and if you don't think that what they are saying is true and you want to seek professional help, then do it.
I hope this was helpful. Take care and I know I'm late but congratulations on the birth of your baby.
It maybe exzima.... hope you find out what it is and the baby is ok
First of all I hope your baby's rash has cleared up. One thing it could be is heat rash. With the heat on Guam this often happened with my kids. another thing to consider is allergies to milk. i don't know if you are using formula or breastfeeding (breast is always best!) but some kids can't handle milk and often get rashes due to that.
I would discontinue using the baby wash and just use water with maybe a tiny tiny bit of soap on her bottom if necessary. You might also consider switching laundry soaps and use a mild baby laundry soap like Ivory snow on her clothes.
Hope some of this advice helps! I love to help new moms!
It could be heat rash.
pls. have her check by her doctor just to be in the safe side,It could be alot of things. From bath soap, milk, heat rash etc,. Don't take a chance.

J. - Congrats! I'm a grandma but would like to share something that I use on my granddaughter when she gets a bit of a rash or even a little redness.....use a cotton ball to apply some pure cornstarch - yes the cooking kind. Get a small container, put some in and keep it with all your diapers, wipes, etc. It is great!
Grandma K.
It could just be the heat. Nothing to worry about. But you can see a doctor for a prescription for that. Congratulations on your first child! Good Luck
Try to keep the area clean and as dry as possible. Don't apply any creams unless prescribed by a MD. Try using baby powder w/corn starch. This really helps w/any kind of rash. Keep the area cool as well. Good Luck!
the doctors at naval hospital told me that you shouold wipe down your child for the first 5 months of their life because showering them before 5 months would wash away the skin that is trying to grow, and complete itself. this results in exsema. a skin disorder that is very common in guam. first it appears as a rash (especiallly on the cheeks, and then everywhere else as a baby. as they grow up, the skin doesnt hydrate itself like it should so you would have to use curel everyday(thats the best skin lotion for exsema). you may still be able to prevent it. if the baby is still fairly a newborn, just use calamine lotion and wipe them down for now. im not a doctor just a mom with a roomate who had the same problem. her baby has exsema now and her baby is already 10 months old. talk to your doctor just to be safe though.
First of all, when did you notice the rash on your baby? Did it come instantly or did it come slowly? does it seem like your baby is itchy or cranky?
I highly recommend that you see the doctor. There has been many babies diagnosed with eczema. Do not put any lotions on baby, it may trigger more. If it seems itchy, you can use powder with cornstarch after bath.
I hope your baby will be fine...do not wait too long in seeing the doctor.
Hi J.
If I am not mistaken, babies now a days are popping up with eczema but according to my nieces doctor. She would be growing out of it.She is 2yrs of age and had it since.
It could be something allergic or even the weather here.
But what my niece uses for her daughter is a soap / creme..I should check and get back with you on this okay.

It could be eczema or heat rash. I recently found out the using a little vaseline after you give your baby a bath will clear it up.
possibly your baby has eczema. Your baby will eventually grow out of it. You should take your child in to the doctor if its a concern with you.
First of all, I would like to congratulate you on your first child, you've been blessed. Anyways, about the rash, you just need to keep your daughter cool at all times, yes, it could be the baby wash, it could be the weather, it could be alot of things, laundry soap, the food/milk that she is taking, the best thing is keep her fresh at all times, it helped me alot with my kids, in due time, she would heal, just don't keep putting any kind of lotion, you can also rinse her down in aveeno bath or use the bath soap (aveeno). Hope this would work. Take care of the precious one & enjoy her moments.
Hi J., I live in Guam also. I have 3 children so we've had our share of rashes. Unfortunately rashes are tricky. They can be caused by so many different things. You really need to bring your daughter to the doctor to get her checked. Your mother-in-law is right, it definitely could be from the baby wash but you just never know. I would definitely get it checked.
It could be both the wash and "bumps." Both my girls had this from about week 2-4. Then it all cleared up and back to beautiful skin. I think I remember reading in the What to Expect the First year book-which I highly recommend- that these bumps are a hormonal response and not to freak out or overwash because they'll go away. About the doctor, call and ask to speak to his nurse. And she will either answer you or get your number to call back. Don't be afraid to specify what is a good time for Doc to call back, either.
Hello, it could be eczema. Which in these days are very common to the children on island. If it is something that just appeared instantly, then I would probably consider it to be hives. If not, and it has been present for a while. Then use vasaline and always keep it moist, because when it's dry it becomes itchy and uncomfortable for baby. Hope this helps.
Take care
Lee
Hi,
It may be that she is to covered up. On Guam, babies only need a light covering, to much can cause a heat rash, along with the detergent you are using. I suggest you reduce the amount of clothing (just use a onesee or just a diaper) and get a non fragrant detergent.
J., It is possible that it came from the baby wash you used. ESpecially if you recently changed to a different one. Also, make sure that all her clothes and blnakets are 100% cotton. Others may result in some rash espcially if you're baby is allergic to it, heat rash may also be a possibility. try putting baby powder on her back. Lastly, it could also be eczema. Babies are prone to exzema. Make sure you consult your Doc if it spreads all over. I am also in Guam, so feel free to ask. I have 3 kids of my own.
Hi J.,
I think it may be the baby bumps, sometimes when the weather gets too hot/humid, babies bodies tend to react to that. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it spreads over the entire body or causes him or her too much discomfort.
Hope it clears soon!
If your new to the weather it is most likely heat rash and using calamine lotion on it will help the rash plus showering your baby more often because of the heat and daps of baby powder throughout his/her body to keep him/her cool shall be able to subside the rash. Try it and I hope it helps you.

GoodMorning J..
Well 1st all babys get a little rash. Most baby wash is hypoallergenic so that means that it won't cause a rash or other rear reactions. I think that if Ur baby is crying alot due to the rash then U should go and take the baby too the clinic and have the nurse check Ur baby. And if it's really a matter that the doc has to take care of ,he could prescribe Ur baby some type of rash cream. I do hope that this helped but U could also go to Kmart and ask the pharmacist what U should buy for the rash.
Have a nice day, and take care.
Is it itchy? My daughter has a son and he just got over a fever and had a mild rash...it was mostly because of the heat.
Hi, I'm a mom of three also from Guam. Your mom could be right or you might want to check the type of laundry soap you are using. A laundry soap, "Dreft" is made especially for babies. If your baby's rash doesn't subside, make an appt. w/ your pediatrician. Sometimes babies develop eczema or heat rash. Your doctor will be able to help you. Hope this helps.
my grand-daughter had rash problems on Guam when she visited. She had problems with food allergies. the warm weather, the grass, the a/c. I could go on....... The doctor prescribed hydro-cortisone creams and benedryl medicine. I worked well. Your local pediatracian would know what type would work for your child. good luck.
Hi J.,
I'm, C. A. and I'm a mother of 5 and a grandmother of 1 and I have never experience having any rash with any of my five children but I have tried using "CORN STARCH" on their diaper rash and it realy works. All you have to do is shower the baby in a warm water with out the baby wash and just apply the corn starch on the areas needed or you can put it on all the baby's body it's up to you. But you can try using the corn starch.
For advised Don't use any of those baby wash items that they sale at the stores, just use soap for the baby. This is what I use with my granddaughter, I take care of her everyday.
Regards,
C.
Maybe your mother in law could be right, your baby may have a reaction to the baby wash, try not using the baby wash and see what happens, Good Luck.
When my son was a baby he also had rash all over his body. The doctor told me that I should not use anything but water to bath him and sure enough it cleared up within a couple of days. Some kids are just more sensitive than others. So just wipe your baby down with a wash cloth and water and nothing else and see what happens.
J.,
Maybe could it be what the baby ate that day and I agree it might be what soap you wash the baby with. How about also the type of soap you wash the baby's clothes with also.
Yes, she could be right because some babies do get allergic to the chemicals used on the baby wash. Is this all you use to clean your baby and how often do you wipe/wash them down. Sometimes it could be heat rash due to our humid weather or it could also be eczema a skin disease very common on new borns and children. But your best advice should come from your Pediatrician.
Your baby must of been allergic to the milk she is drinking. Visit your doctor as soon as you can.
My son is almost a year old and he has eczema, It has never gotten so bad because I would always take care of the problem before it got worst. I did take him to the doctor and was told to shower him with Dove White soap only, use a lotion called Eucerin and was prescribed a Hydrocortizone cream for the parts that looked like they were gonna get worst. If I just want to wipe the baby down, I use uncented wipes. I also try to take him into the aircon as soon as he starts to get irritated so that he would not scratch. Now that he is starting to eat solid foods, I watch his intake and his reactions, for example if he eats eggs and chocolate he starts to break out. I was also told that he would grow out of it.
Oh yes! It DEFINITELY could be the baby wash! My baby boy (now 5 months) has the same problem. He doesn't get the rash as often as before, but it was from the SCENTED baby wipes and SCENTED baby WASH! Sometimes even the kind of laundry detergent you use to wash her clothes can irritate her skin! So, we started using UNSCENTED baby wipes and any kind of HYPOALLERGENIC baby wash that we could find. Oh yeah! Also try to use UNSCENTED baby lotion! AVEENO worked on my baby! As for the laundry detergent, we use the ALL BABY laundry detergent (purchased at K-Mart). It has no scent. Try it! Hopefully she'll grow out of it like my boy did!
