I'm Having a D&C Tomorrow Because of a Miscarriage, Should I Be Nervous??

I'm going through a miscarriage and having to have a D&C done tomorrow at Baylor Grapevine because apparently nature didn't want to take its course with me. Should I be nervous, or is something that is pretty simple. I know what they are, just never really been put under for anything.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

M.,
Sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I had several and one I did while awake (because I was mad I was having another miscarriage).

It is no big deal to have a D/C but being put under IS a very good idea. Being awake was not good, but I wasn't in my right mind.... not like I'm sane now either, but I was definitely confused then.

It may not make you feel any better, but miscarriages are common and D/Cs are done all the time and Baylor Grapevine is a great hospital so you are in good hands.

I am very sorry! I know what you are going through, I had a miscarriage in Jan. 2006 and had to have a D&C because nature didn't take it's course with us either. Try not to be nervous, I wasn't under for that long and the recovery was fine, I didn't even have any spotting. I did feel crampy for a little while afterwards but nothing I even had to take any pain reliver for.

I had a D&C in A. and had no problems. All I remember is going into the operating room and then waking up in recovery. The actual proceedure was only about 30 minutes. Apparently after I was out after the sedation, they inserted a breathing tube and that is what I had the most problems with. My throat hurt after they removed it and I was very thirsty and could only have ice.

I did have slight cramping and just a little spotting afterwards. My son stayed with my MIL so I could rest and that helped a lot!

I am so sorry for your loss.

I wanted to let you know I was sorry for your loss. I lost my first baby to a m/c as well. We had a D&C scheduled on a Mon and the weekend before, I passed everything on my own, so the D&C was cancelled. Good luck & God bless...

Although it's not an easy situation to go through...being put under allows you to have the best nap of your life! They will wake up and you'll be in recovery for maybe an hour...I felt a bit sick in the first 30 min. and a bit out of it! I was there for about 4 hours when I had mine. It was the paper work and waiting on the DR that took the longest. The procedure itself was less than 20 min.

Just make sure you take the day off and rest afterwards...if not for the whole weekend. Also you may be swollen or look/feel really bloated afterwards for a few days...but it will pass.

So sorry...I hope this info will help to put your mind at ease.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this. I had to have one back in June under similar circumstances. I had a blighted ovum. I was put under while the procedure was done. I woke up what seemed like 2 minutes later in recovery. My throat was a little scratchy and the period that followed was really light. I was a little wiped out the next day though. I had a complete recovery and my dr. says we can try again. I hope everything works out for you.

I'm so sorry. I know how devistating the loss of a child is... we lost 4 pregnancies before we finally had our daughter.

You'll be fine. It is a day procedure. I want to say it took less than an hour. You'll need some one to drive you home of course. You can have pain meds or opt not to... I didn't need them personally.

I had a D&C in November of 2005. No heart beat on our sono... I was devistated... and they told me I appeared to be 3 weeks behind... they gave me a week to see if the dates were just off... but they weren't and since my body hadn't recognized that the baby was no longer alive they felt it best to do a D&C... they said it could be the next day or it could be months before nature took its course. I'm soooo glad I listened to them because the very next month my husband and I accidently concieved our daughter who is the light of my life.

I am so sorry for you, but please be rest assured this will be an easy procedure. I had one, and know many others that have had to have them too. Although it is heart-wrenching, it is definitely an easy procedure.

All my best to you!!!!

PS - I did get pregnant rather fast after my D&C.
