Information on Arlington Heights - Palatine - Rolling Meadows

I have a friend from Dallas who is relocating to the area due to her husband's job. His office is in Rolling Meadows, so they'd like to live somewhere nearby. I'm not originally from Chicago, but have lived here for 10 years and am now in Evanston, so I know a lot about the North Shore but almost nothing about any areas west of the Edens Expwy.

They live in a fairly historic area of Dallas now, and are looking for a similar neighborhood for their new home. They want an area with homes that aren't huge, but that are older and have character - no new developments.

They've been looking in Arlington Heights, but aren't having a lot of luck in their price range. Can anyone offer any information about Palatine or Rolling Meadows, in terms of neighborhoods, schools, community offerings (pools, parks, libraries, etc.).

They are planning to move in June and would like to find a house here sometime this month, so any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

In Palatine there are pockets of drug-gang related apartments. Have her watch out for that. Also, I think that Arlington Heights and Rolling Meadows may have a better school system.

A good way for her to find out is for her husband to talk to other employees and see where they live and what they have experienced.

I would vote for Arlington Heights over Palatine or Rolling Meadows. We lived in Palatine as well but find Arlington Heights to be so much different (amazing considering they border eachother!). Have they looked at Mt. Prospect or Barrington? They may have better luck expanding the search area. It took us forever to find a house in Arlington Heights as well. The good ones sell as soon as they hit the market.

Hi

I have lived in Arlington Heights for over 20 years and love the area. The schools are wonderful. My daughter is a senior at Hersey High School and has done really well. If your friend likes Arlington Heights they should keep looking. I have noticed the cost of houses having been dropping in the last few months.

Hi N.,

We live in Lincoln Square in the city and we are going to venture out to Arlington Heights and Mt. Prospect to find a new house. We want to live close to the downtown area because it looks awesome and we want to be close to stores, transportation, etc. just like we are now!

My coworker is very knowledgeable about these areas. In fact, he and his wife currently live in Rolling Meadows. They have lived and worked in Arlington Heights along with downtown Chicago. They work together as a team and are absolutely fantastic in the home search process from start to finish. His name is Jerry Ricordati. You can email him at ____@____.com or call him at ###-###-####. Have them tell him that J. Pedersen referred him through this website. Good luck and best wishes to your friends during this huge transition!

I work with a real estate agent who is AMAZING. He seems to know everything about the Chicago suburbs. He also deals with rentals as well as sales so if they want to get the feel for a neighborhood before they buy then he can help with that as well.
Please contact him. He will be happy to help.
His name is Ali Raheemi. He is also the father of 2 (almost 2 years old and about a year old) so he understands the needs of families in a sense of neighborhood, schools, etc.

Arlington Heights, is awesome. My parents bought 2 houses in 1967 one for our large family and one next door for Grandma to be close. After my parents passed away I purchased the house from my 9 siblings. I would not want to live anywhere else. My family and I have gone to the schools here Edgar A. Poe, James Fenimore Cooper Jr. High, and Buffalo Grove. I has been wonderful seeing my 3 girls go to the same schools.
