Happy Holidays!
I hope that you all are well. I wanted to see if anyone has any recomendations on how to get some red ink out of my husbands work shirts. This morning while ironing he notice some very small, what look like ink stains...could be crayon, on his shirt. When I went to his closet I noticed a few small spots on two other shirts and I desperatly need any advice I can get on how to get it off. I would hate to throw them away but he is very picky about his suits and he wil not wear them as they are. Please help! Thanks you in advance!
J.

What usually works for me on ink stains is a lot of hairspray. I usually use any brand in a can. If it is going to work, you will notice the ink color will start to fade. Repeat as necessary. Do not put the clothing in the dryer until the stain is out, as this will set in the stain. Good luck!

If it's ink from a pen, hairspray works every time. Just spray, blot, spray, blot, etc. until it's gone. You may have to spray heavily and saturate the stain, but it will come out.

Try the dry cleaners. They should be able to get those out. If you cannot afford this, I would try to use oxyclean powder or spray if you can.

Try cheap hair spray. I don't know what material his shirts are made out of, but hair spray will take ink stains out of cheerleading uniforms. Just spray it on and let it sit a while and wash as usual. I've never tried it on cotton.

My daughter got permanent marker on my shirt and a friend suggested vinegar. That along with spray n wash worked perfect and I didn't have to turn the shirt into an expensive car rag.

I've always heard that hairspray or lighter fluid works to get ou ink stains. How...I'm not sure? Maybe you could call a dry-cleaner & ask them how you might be able to do it yourself. Hopefully you'll get a nice one that'll tell you!

I agree with Tracy. PreSpot and Sol-U-Mel are LIFESAVERS! My husband is a machinist so he gets oil, grease, rust, etc. all over his work shirts. I use the PreSpot to treat it and put a small capful of Sol-U-Mel in the wash water and it all comes out. Sol-U-Mel even takes crayon, Sharpie, fingernail polish off our couch when our daughter goes a little crazy, and it's completely safe for your family/pets & the environment!
Good luck!!

If they have already been washed and dryed it may be too late but you can try hairspray. I know it will get fresh ink out ussually.

Good luck.

Rubbing alcohol and hairspray does the trick. I work it out with both of them because you have to keep rincing because you'll get run offs or smears but it will get it out.

J.,
Let me add one more suggestion for ink stains, greasy food
drops or whatever might find its way onto your clothes and that is lighter fluid. This would be the kind you use to fill
a cigarette lighter. I use the hairspray, but I also have saved many a shirt and blouse from the trash barrel by using
it.
Good luck.

Last Christmas, my son left crayons in his pocket. I washed them AND dried them. The best thing I found to get it out was WD-40. That worked pretty well. Also, WD-40 gets silly putty out of carpet.

Good luck!

J.,

I don't have a recommendation for the ink stains, but I am so happy that you have the opportunity to stay at home with your kids. You will never, ever regret it! I stayed home with mine for 9 years and I believe it has much to do with the wonderful young adults they are now! They are 17 and 20. Just remember to take care of your wonderful husband too! He also needs you!

I don't know about this, but I have been told over and over, that adding pine sol to the wash water (preferably one of the fresh sent kinds), can take out some really terrible stains, or even pretreating the stains with it and then washing the clothes. It sounds like a crayon may have been left in the dryer like in somebody's pocket. This has happened to us before, but I was able to catch it before putting the clothes in the dryer, and just the rewashing got the stains out. Often, the heat from the dryer will set the stain forever. Otherwise, you may have to dye all of the shirts red. LOL!

Try using "Awesome". Its an all purpose spray that you can purchase at any Family Dollar and/or Dollar Tree store. It's very inexpensive and works wonders on alot of stains. I mainly used it for blood stains (pms). Up until a couple years ago, I would get very heavy bleeding and very painful period, due to Fibroids in my uterus. With that being said, I wouldn't go anywhere during my period because I have accidents and stain my clothes, from such heavy bleeding. I tried this product and boy did it work. Not even the 'ring' left behind, from trying to clean my clothes, would remain!! Since then, I've had a hysterectomy and no longer have that problem.

The spray, however, I still use. It comes in very handy. And is wonderful for just about any stain you can think of. Works great on carpets as a pre-treater, too.

Good Luck! =)
