Hello does anyone know how to take ink stains out of clothing? I recently stained some and noticed they don't come out with just washing them. Please someone help.

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your great ideas. First I tried the tide to go pens. It didn't really work it just spread the stain. Many of you suggested to use rubbing alcohol and hair spray. I decided to try the rubbing alcohol first because I don't have any hair spray. If that didn't work then I was going to try hair spray. Well the rubbing alcohol worked perfectly. Thank you all!!!!!!!!!!!

The best way to take ink stains out of clothing, believe it or not, is to use hair spray! Have a paper towel handy and spray the spot with hair spray and blot with the paper towel. As the ink starts to "thin out" it may spread a little, but keep spraying and blotting as much as you can, then put it in the washing machine. This works best on cotton and cotton and polyester -- it would depend on the fabric as to how it responds. I wouldn't recommend doing this on acrylic or silk, for instance, as it makes the fabric stiff and would take the shine off.

Try rubbing alcohol. You might even soak the cloth in it. I use rubbing alcohol a lot for problem spots. Get the strongest kind...
It is good on carpet because it does not leave the film that soap does which picks up dirt.

Hi,

You can try hairspray. Shaklee also carries a laundry booster/stain remover called Nature Bright. You just disslove it in water and soak your clothes. Their laundry soap is a great prewash treatment and their all-purpose cleaner, Basic-H would also work. Their cleaning/laundry products are safe, natural, non-toxic, effective, concentrated, and earth-friendly. You can check out the products at www.shaklee.net/greennutrition or register to win $200 of free products at www.freegreenproducts.info.

Try rubbing alcohol.
It gets out lots of stuff and even paint on clothing or other things... marks on walls from the kids etc.
I've used it myself for all kinds of things and it works. But don't use it on varnished furniture or anything precious without doing a test spot first.

If not, try a Google search on it.
Here's one link on it for example:

Good luck!

I usually get out ink stains with hair spray. It may take a few times. I lay the clothing on an old clean white towel and spray it every time I walk by all day and it usually vanishes. Sometimes I use an old toothbrush to rub it around and just keep spraying. I did once get out green marker ink on one of my son's comforters. Good luck!!! :)

Hi, I know for ink stains I have used hair spray. Just spray it and if it is not to delicate of material try using a soft brush (like a toothbrush) and rub it a little. I was told this and it worked, hope it does for you. Good Luck. M.

Congratulations on your returning to college, I have done this to get my psychology degree. I currently have my AAB, BS, and working on my masters. Anyway, I have used GoJo hand cleaner to remove everything from grease to blood, even some ink spots from clothes. It can work for ink as well, but it may take a little bit of rubbing it in to loosen up the components of the ink. My 70+ yr old mother told me about using GoJo as a spot remover. You may also want to check out this website: http://www.ehow.com/video_###-###-####_get-ink-out-silk-c.... I checked it out and it has some very good ideas for ink removal from fabrics. Good Luck

Hi!

Even if you have already washed them, I would try SoluMel by Melaleuca. Their products are non toxic and from naturally derived ingredients. It has gotten sharpie marker out of jeans!
Contact me if you would like to learn about finding this great versatile cleaner!

carpet cleaner. dab a bit on, wait a few minutes then wash as normal. I had this great pink suit once, my permanent marker expolded ALL over it. I cried of course. My husband tried everything...then carpet cleaner. We decided it was already ruined what could it hurt...it came out, every last bit. Now we use carpet cleaner on all our ink, lipstick or marker stains.

Hi C., I know hairspray works if you do it right away, but give it a try, if the clothes have not gone through a dryer it may still work, rub the hairspary on the stain then was as normal. Hope it works. J. L.

Hairspray works and so does alcohol (rubbing)-I have used both. One day my son decided to write on our fabric couch while I was on the phone-hairspray and zout did it that time-but I have alcohol on clothing many times-GOOD LUCK!

Buy a can of cheap hairspray, saturate, let it sit a few minutes and wash. Repeat until stain is gone.
