Does anyone know of a good VBAC friendly doctor who delivers at Loma Linda University hospital? My local hospitals have either banned VBACs or don't take my insurance. I am not comfortable delivering at home or at a birthing center. I contacted the Inland empire ICAN chapter but have gotten no leads from them. Thank you so much mamas!

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your advice. Unfortunately my insurance (blue cross) isn't taken at methodist hospital either. Still haven't found one at Loma Linda, but haven't called Dr. Kim yet. There is a doctor at Glendale Adventist who I have met with, Dr. Wu, who is open to a VBAC. I've had some complications since then and am staying with my current doc for now, hopefully will be resolved soon and I can switch over. But I did find out I'm having another boy! Have every intention of avoiding surgery unless absolutely necessary. Thank you mamas!

I don't know of specific doctors who will do them but I do know that loma linda definitely has some who do. A good place to go for statistics and info is thebirthsurvey.com. It has rates of VBAC for every hospital in the US, as well as other statistics on birth. You can also read reviews from discerning parents for doctors and midwives. While most IE hospitals don't do vbac, there are some that do and since the ACOG changed their mind on the subject more are likely to begin doing them.
Also, no hospital can force surgery on you. You have to agree to it. If you go in in full blown labor and they check you and baby and you're both ok, there is no reason not to 'allow' you to continue.
Get a doula! Take some GOOD childbirth classes! I'm a doula and recommend Bradley method, Hypnobabies, hypnobirthing, and prepared childbirth methods. Why? Because all my clients who have used these methods have been successful. Every mom going to a hospital to birth should have someone on their team who knows what they're doing, and a doula is the perfect thing. You'll never regret hiring a doula.

I have not heard very many good or successful stories of women having desired VBACs with an OB at a hospital. ll the success stories I've heard have been from women who used Midwives either at a free standing birth center or being assisted at home.

Birthing Centers are required to have a working relationship with the 2 closest OB hospitals - so that WOULD be a safe, comfortable and more likely to be successful choice.

I'm having my #2 at home, VBAC with a Midwife. I'm so excited and cannot wait! I'm due late July, early August.

My doctor is Karen Gaio-Hansberger, in Loma Linda, on Barton Road. I had three C-sections, the last two as a precaution only, as I had unknown complications after my first was born. But I think, if it's medically safe, she is willing to do them. She is a GREAT doctor, by the way. If she hadn't acted on intuition and as quickly as she did when my son was born, he probably wouldn't have survived a vaginal delivery. She's been my doc for at least 15 years. Love her.

Dont be STUPID. Do your reasearch and you will see Hospitals are BAD. Watch the documentary, The business of being born in America. If thats not enough, reasearch Pitocin deaths and side affects, epidurals injections and worst c-section risks and percentages. They are extremely high here in the USA. Remember you are not a patient but rather a client or customer. I delievered at home, NO drugs, healthy baby and freedom to eat when I want and move the way I want. Enough said. Good luck. I pray you do not drug your unborn baby like so many STUPID mothers do.

Your in Claremont? I think for the time frame your driving to get to Loma Linda, you might try Arcadia Methodist. Dr. Shaun Grady and Dr. Frields are both VBAC supportive and suggest Arcadia.
I have a mom who is doing a VBAC there with Dr Grady. (I'm a doula)

Like Angela said, they cannot perform surgery without your consent. They may have you sign a waiver saying you understand the risks of a VBAC.

Be confident in your decision, educate yourself (which you seem well on your way at) and of course I recommend a hiring a doula! She can help you prepare and build your confidence. She can help manage your pain and thus help you avoid what is known as the "cascade of intervention"... how one thing leads to another and each one increases the risk of another cesarean birth.

Congrats on your baby, high five to ya for choosing a VBAC and getting informed! You can do it!

Check with your local ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network)--they should be able to put you in touch with VBAC-supportive docs in your area.
