JFF - Best Month to Have a Baby??

What do you think the best month to have a baby is and why??

Hubby and I are throwing around the idea of #2, DS is 2.5 (3 in June). I have my certain months that I would prefer to avoid a holiday baby or months overloaded with birthdays already...but just thought I'd see what you all argued as the ideal month :-)

Share, Share!!

ME: My personal months to avoid would be December (hubby bday, Christmas, AND our anniversary), January (already 4 family bdays)...but the thought of having an itty bitty to pass around at Christmas isn't so bad (then again, the germs....eh) :-) Again - just taking a generic poll :-)

What can I do next?

I think April or May would be the perfect time. It's not too hot, too cold, too germ-y, or too close to the kindergarten cut off date and there's no major holidays where people travel, so it won't be hard to gather people for a birthday party.

pregnant over the winter months. I would hate to be pregnant over the summer months. so I would say a spring baby. From March to May.

MARCH! :) My first was born in March, second in Dec., and third in Nov.

Spring is (IMO) the easiest time to have a newborn. School is ending, summer schedules loosen up, and weather is perfect for getting out once you are up for it.

My downside for the late fall or winter birthday is it is wicked cold here in MN and being housebound with multiple children was hard on me... had we planned it better I would have "scheduled" them for spring.

I had a mid October baby.

Cons: Cabin fever, flu season, lots of bundling when going out, and it was icy carrying his carseat around.

Pros: Knowing he would be an older, and very ready child when it came to school and there was never a question of when to send him, Christmas was fun!, I wasn't super pregnant during the heat of summer.

Spring babies are best I think....not to hot, not too cold. A very pregnant mama can be comfortable. Also not too much to do for you. A holiday baby means a very pregnant, uncomfortable you during a time you have to be in a festive mood etc. My son is a New Year's baby and he thinks it stinks sometimes. My oldest, is Jan. 29th and she too thinks it stinks 'cuz people tend to forget her due to the holidays.

Well, my son was born in April, so I'm going with that, because I had the *best* baby, ha!

No, really-- it was great. Hot and overheated while pregnant works well for the winters here in the Pacific Northwest and he was out of the belly before it got hot. (we don't get summer here until July, really.) Plus, his birthday is far enough ahead that the whole 'kindergarten red shirt' thing was not a discussion for us. (Mature enough come Sept.). And his birthday wasn't close to Christmas or any other holiday which might steal his thunder.

Where I live winters are very cold and summers are very hot. May and June are good months to have a baby. (My boys were born the last week of June and the first week of July.) You don't have to be pregnant in the heat of summer. You don't have to worry about bundling up a tiny new baby to take out in the cold. Baby can wear just a diaper or a onsie all summer long. The child can get summer toys and clothes for birthdays and winter toys and clothes for Christmas, and gifts are nicely spread out through the year. Friends will still be in town for birthday parties and not away for summer vacation yet. The child is the same age for the entire school year. Oh, yeah, you can have outdoor birthday parties, like mini-golf, go-carting, waterslides, park, beach or backyard.

I had my first on Mother's Day. It was May 1st, 2001. :-) It was a wonderful pregnancy. If I were to have another, I'd want to give birth in the April/May timeframe (which means you're gettin busy in August).

I had my second on November 7th, 2002. Being preggo in the Summer was not great.

Best of luck!

Well, I'm a public school teacher, so the PERFECT time of year for a new baby would be 6 weeks before the end of the school year. Maternity leave plus summer means an extra long time home with baby without a financial hit!

April/May babies also mean no being (big) pregnant in the summer heat, which is nice.

Surprised no one has really mentioned age and the school year. August babies turn 5 and may or may not be Kindergarten ready by Sept. 1st making you have to decide whether or not to hold them back a year. I have several friends/relatives in this boat and half have held them back and half sent them. My first was born in mid April and I think that was a perfect time. He is not he youngest or oldest in his class. I also have a late Jan. baby and while it is close to holidays, it really isn't so I am still figuring that one out as he is turning 2 in 2013. Both pregnancies were great temperature wise, though!

My boys are April and May and I loved the timing b/c I was able to take the summer off (maternity leave) and spend it with them. It's also still during the school year so easy to plan parties with their friends before everyone vacations for summer.
My SD's bday is Dec. 25th. Poor girl! We do our best to make it special still!!

I have 3 kids: January, April, June

I thought the easiest one was the April one--You don't have to bundle them up quite as much as a winter baby; you can start taking them on outdoor walks within weeks of birth, as the weather is warming up; they're old enough (about 8 mos) at Christmas time to actually be awake a bit and interactive; Easter tends to be in April, but not always, and always a different weekend than the year before; If you have a job outside the home, If you have a late April baby, you can do maternity leave through some pretty fantastic months, weather-wise.

I didn't plan to the month, I was just excited when I got the positive pregnancy test (and scared to death at the same time).

Our daughter was due on Jan 4 and due to a few complications, nothing bad, Dr was going to induce on Jan 2. My hubby the numbers man said no way, let's do it sooner so we induced on 12/27 and had her that day. Hubby was happy with the tax break.

Her bday has never been an issue because I make sure it is completely separated from Christmas. We've never had lack of involvement at any party either.

That said, my hubby the numbers man, married me on New Years Eve, LOL for the tax break!!

I also like her age where it is for school purposes.

Late spring... you don't have to pregnant in the hot summer, and people are all getting out of cold and flu season just in time. People are still around for BD parties ( not disappearing for summer) and you can have an outdoor party.

Many teachers and educators have our babies in spring when we can... so our maternity leave can back right up to summer :)

I think it is so much easier being pregnant in the winter months instead of during the heat of summer when mom and dad get a little frisky over the holidays or new year or Valentines Day. A lot of babies are born in late August, September, and early October just for those reasons.

I think that having a baby in March or April would be nice. That way they'd have their birthday in the Spring during the school year, they'd be full age to start school at 5 and not be the youngest or the oldest, they'd be able to do outdoor parties some years or go on a trip for Spring Break to someplace like Disney Land or Disney World.

That's why I think an early spring baby would be fun.

We didn't plan our two last ones very well (actually didn't plan at all). :) They were born in May - which, btw, is also my hubby's b-day, our anniversary, my father in law's b-day, my mom and step dad's anniversary and brother in law's b-day!!! UGH! Talk about a busy and expensive month! lol

So definitely take into thought what all goes on during each month and don't forget weather... if you are outdoorsy, and you like to have parties in the sunshine, a Winter baby might not be the best idea.

My oldest was born in Sept. and other than school starting that month, it's clear on the calendar and the weather is nearly always perfect.

Good luck!! :)

I loved having a June baby; then again, that means the child is either old or young for school. A September baby wasn't great for me as a teacher, but he's quite old for his grade. My December baby arrived on Christmas Eve, which was so, so wonderful when she arrived--people found out at our church, they were hugely supportive, both sides of my family came up to visit for the holidays (which I wanted) and it was amazing. I felt so loved, supported--and it was so great to have Christmas at hoem for once (we are always traveling long distances and have never had Christmas here with my kids). On the other hand, her birthday is always lost--I need to celebrate it at home, so that I can celebrate it with my family, but we are never actually home on her birthday. That also means that, on her birthday, her grandmas are invariably making the day "hers" at their house. It's also hard to find gifts; she is already getting shortchanged on Christmas and birthday, because they come next to each other. On the other hand, she is our third; she has pretty much everything. So, those are my opinions. Oh, and spring birthdays are nice for outdoor birthday parties!

I planned by last baby to be close to my BFF, thinking that because I get along so splendidly well in every aspect of our lives and friendship, that I would like to have a child born around the same time. That I would have a wonderful, friend in my new family member. Voila! My daughter's birthday is FEB 8 and my BFF is FEB 9...not bad, eh? And naturally, I love my DD.

Most people don't have the choice you are planning on. They get pregnant when they can.

My kids were both born in June. I'd say if I had to pick an ideal month, I'd choose May. You wouldn't be hugely pregnant in summer, you wouldn't have to worry about going into labor during a snowstorm or being stuck inside with a newborn. Your kid wouldn't have a summer birthday with their friends all on vacation. Your kid wouldn't be like my daughter who has finals and Regents during her birthday, and is upset that she'll never get to celebrate her birthday at college.

I had DD in October. I loved being pregnant in the summer with our mild climate here in the PNW. And I could bundle her up when she was tiny.

It has a few downsides however: b-days must be inside that time of the year around here, so they have to stay either small or you have to do a more expensive party at a venue. She missed the cut-off for school in our state, so that adds a year of childcare expenses (we will be paying for almost 6 years of childcare instead of 5, that is about $14000!) - and it is already pretty close to christmas. On the upside her b-day is close to Halloween, which makes for great costume parties!

If I could pick, I would pick earlier in the year: April, May, June.

Good luck!

My babies were born at inopportune times, yes one is a Dec. baby. I also had three miscarriages and struggled nearly a year to get pregnant this last time. I think its silly to over plan it unless you are a teacher and want to time your maternity leave so you get leave plus summer or are in medical school and want a summer baby. Aside from things like that don't over-think it, you may not get the baby you were supposed to get! You may get preg. month after the mont you were trying for. I'll keep my Dec. baby thank you very much. An inconvenient birthday and getting gypped for birthday gifts and parties is hardly a reason for me to wish my Dec. baby came at any other time. Besides, on average I tried for four months to conceive, so I say take what you get when you get it.

My babies are March, April, and June. April is probably the best. Normally warm in Maryland by then, and sometimes it falls on spring break, so occassionaly we are on vacation for his birthday.

June is tough because it's on the 14th, and that's right when school gets out. So planning her party must always start in early May.

March is good - just the weather is up in the air.

When we have number two, ideally I would want baby to come between June and October. September or October to narrow it down specifically. Like you, we have lots of January birthdays already. Plus I would rather not have to deal with the huge amounts of presents that would come if we had a December baby. (my SIL is dealing with that with her December baby who just turned 2.) We have no immediate family with birthdays in September nor October, hence there is "space" for a baby there. HA! (I just read answers below - looks like not a lot like Sept/Oct bc of school age cutoff. Never thought of that! Of course we plan to homeschool so prob not a big deal for us).

My one and only child is an April baby and I am very pleased with that. There aren't a lot of other family with a bday in April, plus I really like that Xmas presents and birthday presents are so spread out. And weather is good in April for outdoor bday parties. :)

I have a December baby (and my birthday as well)--I despise it, in fact, I thought I got away with not having a Dec. baby but he came almost 4 weeks early, so I had the best b-day present ever, but a Dec. baby.

Also have a late Sept. baby, and its awesome for birthdays but it was a horrible horrible pregnancy. the summer being way pregnant with a toddler was just way too hard.

My husband wanted a 3rd I was okay with just my two boys, but I gave him a 3 month window to make it work. I didn't want another winter baby, I wanted a spring baby, and I wanted at least a 2 yr gap between the 2nd and 3rd (my first two were only 20 mths apart). Ha ha he hit the bulls eye in the last month and my 3rd was born in the middle of April.

Love love spring babies. Easy (for the most part) pregnancy, no holiday overload. So I would say early May late April would be the perfect month to have a baby :)

I think spring is best. It's not too close to the holidays. You easily make the cutoff for school, so there is no debating whether to hold your kid back or not. You're not after the cutoff either. You make the cutoff for most sports leagues. You can usually count on the weather for an outside birthday party if you want one (at least in CA where I live).

Personally, I also love having a summer birthday (early August). Sometimes my parties were smaller because friends were on vacation, but it usually wasn't an issue. About half my friends had birthdays before mine and half after (within the same year). It was great.

I would avoid September - March if I could have a do-over (baby #2 was born in October and now misses the school cutoff, which I think sucks!)

As a working mom the end of the year (late October, November, or December) is great. I can combine holiday time with leave and my industry slows considerably, which all means more time off with less stress. Plus it is not too cold here in Texas typically. Finally I can join in the festivities or not. Most understand with a newborn the germ and illness factor if I opt to stay home or only have a few visitors.

To this point (ages 3 and 4) it has been fine but i can see the kids not being happy about it later on with them falling during the summer right before school starts back. For me it was pretty much torture the last couple months being pregnant here in Texas. 100+ degrees every day, and in '08 when my son was born it was extreemly hot and humid the last 3 weeks before his birth. If i have another one i will try to plan for a April or May baby.

Personally, I wanted to avoid November, December, January and February, because I think they are all too close to the holidays. I've heard that October is the most common month to have a baby (people are commonly bored in January?) Summer's good, but most kids do like having their birthday during the school year. We have a couple of acres, so our July birthday usually gets a fun outdoor party, whereas our March birthday might feel a bit jipped since March is iffy weather wise.

I think I'd vote for April, May and September.

Mid to the end of August and beg of Sept are rough when the kids have parties. In August it's really hot, kids are away and when school comes--everybody is getting ready for the school year.

None of them were born during December, which is good, to me.

But just so happened that I conceived when I conceived!

And per school cut offs (ie: when a child is accepted into Kindergarten), it has worked out well, with my kids.
They both entered Kinder at 4 then turned 5. They just made the cutoffs for Kindergarten entry (which is 5 years old in most States), and they both did fine. Lots of kids were also born later, than them.

Summer. Weather is nice. You can take the baby outside in the stroller for a walk. He/she can wear a onesie making outings and diaper changes easier. Birthdays are in summer, school is out, you don't have to invite the whole class, just whoever they are playing with at the time. You can have birthday parties outdoors, a real plus when you have boys. Also, it's about halfway from Christmas, spreading out the cost and shopping for gifts.
