Yes we do. Tape player as well... and tube tv. I know my sister does too... her daughter watches the old power ranger movies we used to on it.
My husband and I were discussing the other day. My MIL gave our kids a couple of Scooby Doo VHS tapes to bring home with them after a visit. They were SO excited, and pulled them out of their bags with anticipation to watch with us. We just laughed. We haven't owned a VCR in several years!
We ended up having to rent them on streaming since they were so disappointed. We had to let our MIL know not to buy any more VHS for them to bring home. She couldn't believe we didn't own a VCR. We couldn't believe she did!
Do you still have your VCR? If not, what did you do with the tapes?
Interesting responses! Remember those tape rewinders you could buy for your VHS tapes? What a luxury THAT was!
Other than Disney Blu-Ray releases, I don't even buy DVDs much anymore. We've gone streaming for just about everything, unless it's something we really, really like. It's the same thing with music CDs. I can't remember the last time I bought a CD- years maybe? My husband does buy Godzilla DVDs from time to time.- lol.
My brother converted all home videos to DVD format a couple of years ago. Other than a very sentimental 60th Anniversary VHS copy of Gone with the Wind, we don't have any more VHS tapes. Well, unless you count 1 Scooby Doo movie (my 3 yo decided to pull tape out of the other movie).

Yes, we actually have 2 DVD/VHS combo units and probably always will. I have inherited a collection of Disney movies and other kid stuff from and for the daycare, so we always have a VCR to watch them on.
No I don't but, I wish I still did. I stills have a bunch of vhs videos that I love, but have no idea what to do with. Sometimes changes in technology aren't always happy changes. :(
We still have a VCR. How else would we watch our old kung fu movie collection? :)
We also still have a beta player in the basement. Please know, that says more about my husband than it does about me! He's got a box of tapes too, they are 'valuable'. Hmmm....
(oh and we have the tape rewinder too!)
Christine: our Sony television cabinet (furniture!) is from 1987 or so and still works great! I know what you mean.
We don't and we gave all our tapes to my dad who will probably take his VCR to the grave.
We do. I'm not sure why, but we do. We have two tv's and each has a VCR - that's not connected! We really need to get rid of some things around here.
Our entertainment system consists of a teensy (16") television (with integrated VCR which we no longer use) and an added disc player, and a cheap subscription to Netflix. We set this up near the couch so the screen looks bigger, and trade foot rubs during the movies.
I'm telling you, even for those of us on too-small-for-technology budgets, this is truly being in the Lap of Luxury!!!
I think we do, in the recesses of our teen's room. He hooked it up to a projector to show a Disney movie on the wall to a friend's young child we were baby sitting... I don't know if it still works anymore. But I'm pretty sure it is still in his room.
The tapes? They are on a bookshelf collecting dust.
We have a dvd/vhs player on both tv's so we can still watch our library of vhs tapes and the ones grandma and grandpa send over.
Up til last winter we had a DVD/VCR on one TV and 2 VCRs on other tvs. We are old school and still have all the old movies.
We have one in a closet somewhere - we have a few tapes - mostly Disney movies.
I'm sure it's right next to a turn table (you know, for records - we have a few boxes of those, too).
We haven't used either in ages.
My husband inherited a Victrola a few years ago (along with some incredibly thick records).
Guess we've got a few things that will be fit or a museum someday.
We still have ours hooked up to the tv in the family room, but haven't played a movie on it in years. I like it though because it's the only clock on our entertainment center - the blue ray, Wii and our stereo do not have one!
Yes, we do (posting from the fuddy-duddy Luddite zone). Our player is a combination VCR-DVD, and we still use the VCR portion often to record soccer games and shows/movies on TV. We also have quite a few VHS tapes. If that player ever breaks, it will be a sad day because I'm sure no store in town sells them and I doubt we could even find someone who knows how to fix it.
Up until a few months ago we had 2. One broke, the other I Freecycled on to another family, along with a dozen or so Disney movies and 2 dozen Veggie Tales movies.
Nope. Haven't for a few years. We do still have some VHS tapes though... Not sure how that is gonna work out.
We have it in the basement attached to the big tube-in-the-back TV. We still haven't converted all those mini-tapes from our kids' childhood onto DVDs or flashdrives - maybe we should bring it upstairs to watch the tapes and stroll down memory lane... (get a box of tissues!) Mabye with one away at college I'll find time to tackle that project...
We still have a handful of VHS tapes and we still have a portable video player from our loooong roadtrip when the kids were 2-almost-3 & 5-almost-6. My husband and I must have turned to eachother about 25 times that trip saying the $400 we spent on that videop player was the best investment we had ever made. That was Spring 2002.
We still have one, works great.
No, we don't get Hi-Def picture when watching it, but I can still pick up a VHS movie @ Goodwill or 1/2 Price Books for a buck.
That & a microwave popcorn makes for a great impromptu date night! T. =-)
We do have a VCR. We don't use it though. I am not sure why I still have it!!
I am part of a fantastic facebook group called "Buy Nothing" and then my city. I got this fantastic DVD/Blue Ray that can go online so I can get netflix for FREE from someone in my community. Brand new.
If I hadn't got that, we may still have the VCR working. lol.
Huh. Maybe I should get rid of the VCR, it's just taking up room.
L.
Yes because I still have a large VHS collection.
No, I hardly use the DVD player anymore. We use Apple TV for movies, Netflix, etc., or the iPad.
Nope, got rid of it about 11 years ago.
Yep, we do. We have one with our living room TV set up, hardly watched. My girls also have a little TV with a vcr included. They like to watch Disney movies and stuff. I remember when I was a little girl and it was such a big deal to have a VCR, lol.
We have a combo VCR/ DVD player we still use.
My husband and I still say "can you tape that show for me?" Referring to the DVR , but showing our age for all the times we used VHS tape to record things.
VCR! Nope have not owned one since 2002. I am not sure we really even use our DVD player anymore. We mostly stream movies and watch DVR. I do not buy CD's anymore either, all of our music is on ITunes.
I worked the church rummage sale this Spring and there were several VCR's in the mix.
One lady came in and purchased a VCR that had a tag that read, "Works Great" on it.
I would think all the VHS movies skip and stop along the way.
Yes, we still have one. We have a tv/vhs combo and a huge set of Disney VHS tapes that the boys will occasionally watch.
We have two! One is on a TV that is not hooked to cable or satellite or anything simply for watching either DVD or VHS (dual DVD and VHS). We also have a VCR hooked to our TV that is connected to DISH. I can't believe that people pay for the Hopper, DVRs, etc these days. No wonder so many people have such huge cable bills! Mine is $29.99 per month plus the taxes. I tape anything I want from the DISH satellite TV and then we can watch it on either TV.
I don't own a DVR - but I do borrow VHS movies from the public libraries and of course I tape whatever - movies, shows, etc. I truly believe that streaming and DVRs are a downgrade in technology - all they did was contribute to everyone's having another subscription service.
BTW, we don't stream anything. We don't have good enough internet service for that nor do we own a TV or device that could do it. TV is from 1998 and still works perfectly. No need to buy this fancy stuff.
Cheers,
C. - who might sound old but is only 42.
I have not one but two vcrs. I have loads of Disney and Christmas vhs tapes. I'm not replacing them and refuse to rent them each time we have the grandkids over. I also have a DVD player. I actually still but vhs movies from garage sales and thrift stores. I've only had to toss one vhs tape but have had multiple dvd's get scratched and become worthless.
I had my VCR until both my kids started school. I had lots and lots of kids/Disney movies on VHS that I had picked up for next to nothing at yard sales and Goodwill, so the VCR was for them. That was before Netflix. My youngest is in grade three, so I got rid of the VCR about 3 or 4 years ago.
We do still have a VCR. It is a combo VCR and DVD burner. We've been meaning to use it to transfer all of our home videos to DVD. Of course we haven't had a chance to. We don't have as many VHS as we had back in the day. We've been purging them recently and donated a bunch to Friends of the Library. They either put them into circulation as rentals or sell them to raise money for the public library. It is a tax deductible donation for us too which is a plus. We still have some more boxes of VHS to sort through, we're keeping a few of them still. Home made videos like things you taped off the TV or whatever you can crack open. The tape itself is trash but the plastic case can be recycled with your normal recycling.
A what? :)
Actually, my parents have a large collection of Disney VHS tapes and an old TV with a built-in VCR in the guest room. My kids discovered both on our visit there last summer and were INTRIGUED by the tapes! They kept trying to open the actual tapes to find the disc inside....They also found the whole rewind/fast forward concept endlessly amusing. Pocahontas was looking a little scratchy, I gotta say!
Maybe buried in the garage?! LOL
I do and it's hooked up to a TV. I use it to watch our home movies, at Christmas or sometimes on the kids birthdays. I still have some Disney tapes and all those Veggie Tales, Queen of the Castle!
We own two of them.
My mom has a machine that you can put a VHS tape into on one side, and then put a DVD on the other side, and transfer what's on the VHS tape to the DVD. You then finalize the DVD, take it out, write on the DVD what it is, and voila, you can throw your VHS tape away if you want.
We do still own one, although it is no longer that reliable.
Nope, we got rid of it a long time ago. I even sold all of the VHS tapes many, many years ago on ebay. Got great price for the Disney ones. I sold them as a whole package.
I know some people still have them..
I'm surprised that there are still so many that own VCRs. I haven't had one since about 2001.
Yes we still have a VCR! It is hooked up to a TV in our spare bedroom. When we have little kids over they enjoy our collection of Disney movies and Mary Kate and Ashley movies. And actually I haven't figured out how to record and then play movies or TV shows off our DISH system. Our internet is very slow and is not great at downloading movies either.
We do still have a TV that is in good working order, not used much and it has the built in VCR.
I have most of the VCR tapes boxed up and stored in a closet.
I think the last time this TV was used was when daughter stayed over at our house a couple months ago AFTER she had moved into her condo and took most everything from my upstairs... She watched some movie for the heck of it because we didn't have the tv set up on cable in that room.
Right now we use mostly the DVR and some DVD's
A few years ago I bought a combination DVD/VCR player and my grandkids still play VCR tapes.
Lol, nope.
We just gave them all to my grandma, who still watches them to this day. Any videos that we really wanted to keep, we took to this place in town that would convert them to DVD for us.
No. It died a few years ago. We donated all VHS tapes to Goodwill.
M.:
To answer your question, yes, I still have a vcr. I bought a dvd/vcr combo because we had so many kids cartoons/movies on vhs and there was no way I was going to buy them all when dvd came out and then blu ray. I now have a great nephew and he loves the vhs tapes. I am sure you could pick up one cheap. I paid only 35.00 for my combo.
A.
We do still have O. on the basement entertainment center, but I can't tell you this lady time it had a tape in it! Lol
All kid VHS tapes went to a new church that was sticking a nursery/day care about 5 years ago.

We don't have a VCR. Gosh, I can't even remember the last time we did! Our oldest is turning 12 soon, so her whole life, DVDs have been available. We have never bought movies on tape. We have a Blu-Ray player that also plays DVDs. I'm sure someday our DVDs will seem hopelessly out of date, too...
I have a stand alone VHS player that a lady gave me at work years ago. It's not hooked up. I also have a TV with a built in VHS and DVD player that's in the guest room. I got that TV in college back in 2002. I used to record my soap every afternoon while I was in class! I have given away the vast majority of my VHS tapes, since I have most of the Disney movies on DVD now. Pretty much the only ones I've kept are the ones that I don't have a DVD copy of.
Yes, we have two working VCRs although they don't get used very often. Mostly for recording certain broadcasts for Trivia purposes (an annual contest that is a big deal locally) or when my husband converts home videos to DVD for people.
I wonder if we still have kids show VHS in the basement somewhere...10 years ago we had quite a lot of preschool-age tapes.
My husband also have a laser disc player for the novelty and a smaller tape player for video converions. Betamax, I think.
We actually do own one, but we don't have it hooked up at the moment. We got it while stationed overseas and in addition to being a VCR it works as a decoder so that it can decode cable and films made for different European counties. We have held onto it because it was pricey to get the decoder and we hope to return to Europe for a few more years before we settle down in one place. It is also nice to have so we can hook it up from time to time and watch old home movies, but we have talked about getting those transferred to DVD soon.
Yes, we have tons of tapes the kids still watch. I'm so surprised the tape has not disintegrated in all of them. They don't have a very long life expectancy but these have lasted a long time.
yes, we do still own one!
