My daughter rarely says mom lol she hears me and DH call each other babe( we dnt call each other by our names lol ) and just a week ago or so I notice she rlly does call me babe! I always thought she was sayin hey hey to get my attention but she was calling me babe and prefers that over mom lol she makes it a game like calls me mom twice then babe like three times it's cute but now I'm kinda getting a lil annoyed with hearing babe so much lol not from DD but from hubby who sarcastically says babe babe BABE just to get to me and gets some laughs oh and when she was a lil younger she called me dad a couple of times :) gosh I love to hear Her talk and when she learns new signs and uses them ah I feel accomplished lol sorry got off track hehe

So I was just wondering if your kids have ever called you something other than mom?

What can I do next?

my daughter when she was little around 1 would call M. mom and if I didnt answer would yell my first name in an annoyed loud voice, she'd do the same for her dad....people in grocery stores used to come up all the time and say they thought she was a big kid by the tone in her voice....now she can't get away with that at 4=) but at 1 it was super cute.

My 13yr old son has called me "K." since he was 6. At first I thought it was a phase that he would grow out of. I'm now fully aware it isn't a phase. He's on the Autism Spectrum and everything is kinda matter of fact for him, so when I asked him years ago why he calls me "K.", he, very matter-of-factly replied "It's your name." Can't argue with that. It actually doesn't bother me. I've got two daughters also, and between them, the constant call of "Mamma, Mommy, Mom, Mom, Mama, Ma, Mom, Mommy" gets really tiring. Plus, when he talks about me to other people, he calls me "my mom", so people know I'm his mom. It's just one of his quirks. I've got bigger battles to fight than this.

My husband taught my kids to call me "Big Momma" while I was pregnant. I have recently put a stop to it. ;)

It was funny when my 2 y/o said it though. "Biiiiiigggg MOMMA!"

Its not funny anymore...

Occasionally DD will use my first name b/c the stepkids do, but if you ask her what my name is, she'll say it's "momma". She will sometimes call us momdad or dadmom like she's confused for a second. I've called her by her sister's name so I can't blame her.

My oldest son never called me anything for a long time because he has a slight speech delay. He now now calls my "Monny" and it's music to my ears and very distinctive so I always know it's him when we're at the park.

Not here....but my nephew used to be allowed to call my BIL and SIL names from the DORA TV show. Dad was "Benny" (the bull" and Mom was "Dora" or "Boots". This childs lack of respect and discipline is a whole other story. At a family dinner at Olive Garden, during this whoe long (a few years) Dora names phase, he declared I was "Isa" now, to which I politely said, "No, I am your Auntie N____. I will only answer to that". At the time he was about 5 and crawling under the table (gross), and popping up into peoples faces, barking at them like a puppy, etc. When I refused to answer him with my new "name" or the barking, etc, my BIL got really ticked off (it was causing a scene and I didn't care). Said I was stunting his creativity and freedom of expression. LOL. Crushing his "Spirit"...LOL.

Ok...oops..sorry...got off on a tangent there...Whew! I am back now.

I am "The Mother"...he is "The Father"...and we call her "The Child"...LOL shes a teenager , so its pretty funny. When my phone rings and its her, thats what it says across the screen..the CHILD....LOL. I am always asking "Where is The Child?" "What did the child do with this or that?" It just stuck, so she started with "the mother" and "the father" thing.

That's great! My kids call me "hun" a lot - and then giggle. My sister's daughter cracks me up. She just turned 2 and my sister is a nanny, so the boys she watches call her Sarah, and my kids call her Row (a spin off of her childhood nickname of Roo from Winnie the Pooh). So my niece calls her Sarah or Row. We went to a hotel on Saturday and I walked into my sister's room and my niece had picked up the phone to call her daddy and kept saying "Mike, Mike" lol - too funny! She used to call my sister Money instead of M...I thought that was perfect!

I called my mother mom and my father dad until my dad was sent to Germany (USAF). We lived on the economy (rented a house from a German citizen on his farm). I learned German in school and from our neighbors. I started calling my mom, mutti and my dad, vatti, the German words for mom and dad. I called them that until they passed away.

My kids called me dad and my wife mom.

Good luck to you and yours.

I'm just mom...but she started calling daddy by what I call him, "honey". She did it first time in the grocery store and yelled it at the time of her little lungs. A 2yr old yelling, "honey!!!!" So to put an end to it; everytime I call my husband for anything I have to say, "hey dada or daddy come here." I feel like Ronald Regan and Nancy when they called each other mother and father...LOL

I am Mommy until I am not hurrying fast enough to their location and then it is MOM! My nephews call me LaLa (a nickname from childhood) as do all of my friends kids. My children only call me by my first name if they want my attention and Mom just isn't working. They say my first and last name in a drill sergeant voice like I do them when I want eyes front. It works. I would never allow them to call me any name other than Mom. Language and how what you say affects others is a major phase in a toddler. Have fun with it, just make sure she is still being respectful to you and Dad.

We grew up in an extended family household and so my grandparents were "Mama" and "Papa" (the references my parents had for them) and we called my parents by their names "Lene" and "Billie" (what my grandparents called them). Nobody felt anyways slighted by the reference and it wasn't until we got much older that we noticed everyobdy didn't refer to their parents this way. Somehow we all gravitated to calling my mom "Madea" (a combination of Mother Dear); dad was still Billie until the birth of grandchildren and they morphed into Gram and Papa Billie. I hadn't thought about all that for awhile, but thanks for the posting of the question that prompted me writing/remembering and smiling in the process.
