How Do You Address Your Husband?

Meaning, do you call him by his given name, a nickname or a 'pet' name? I can't remember the last time I actually called my husband by his real name. We've been married for 7 years and together for 12. What I do call him is Babe, Love, Hun, or something like that. And I call most everyone else that's younger than me (I'm 29) Sweetie. How about you?

What can I do next?

I say, "hey." LOL. We don't have pet names for each other, but we don't use each others names. It works for us! I absolutely can't stand when people call me "sweetie," "honey," or any pet names. If someone doesn't even know me, I don't need them making up names for me. UGH...so annoying! I'm not talking about you, or anything. I'm just speaking in a general sense. If someone refers to me as honey,or something...I tell them, "My name is, ..." I really hate it.

I call my husband babycakes, Kenneth when he's in trouble, Kenny (only other person who could call him that was his grandmother), or tow truck because he wanted a nickname more manly than babycakes and at the time that was all I could think of!

I call my husband Jon or Jonathon, depending, or daddy around the kids. I don't think I use any pet names, but sometimes we use "Honey Bunny" as a joke because a friend made it up as our obnoxious pet name for each other.

I usually address other people as "ma'am" or "sir" depending on their gender, miss if a young lady appears to be in her teens or younger. My husband addresses waitresses as "miss," though, which I find highly amusing. :)

Oh, and I agree about finding "sweetie" or "honey" really annoying coming from other people--unless I'm related or a really close friend, I find name shortening or anything like "sweetie" to be extremely obnoxious or slightly amusing, but never welcome. :) I try to be nice to people about it though.

I call my lady "Babe" most of the time, or "pookie". I only call her by her first name when I really need her attention. She's "hun" when she's in trouble. When she's REALLY in trouble, I don't call her anything!

I'll call him either "hun" or by his name, or "Daddy" around our daughter. I'll call our daughter "buddy" or "bud" sometimes haha

When I first met my husband, I only knew him by his nickname, "Phoenix". So that's all I called him then. Somehow I slowly transitioned into using his real name & I don't use his nickname anymore.

I either call him by his first name or Sweetheart. And there have been many many times that I've called him by his first name and got no response, but Sweetheart will get his attention every time. But I've called him Sweetheart since before we dated and were just friends, so he's heard it for nearly 20 years.
And he rarely calls me by my name. When he does it always sounds weird to me. He doesn't call me any nickname either. He just talks to me.

Usually Babes, Hon, or Eagleheart (goes back to a travel story he told me early on). If I call him by his given name, he knows I'm about to discuss an issue that's very serious to me.

I've heard that children are given middle names so they'll know when they are in deep trouble: "Jacob Allen Smith, you come in her right now!"

i call both of my men "babe" or "baby". sometimes my husband is "daddy" if i am referring to him to my son. i am "baby", or "mommy". we don't call each other "mommy" and "daddy" except for the sake of our son. the only time i call either my son or my husband by their name is when they are in trouble. it's an affection thing. i try not to call anyone "sweetie" or "hun" unless i am friends with them - i am a team leader at work so it's kind of a bad habit to get into. i may care about people and look at them sort of as my "kids" (at least, people i care about, and who i am responsible for) but i have to keep in mind to stay professional.

My friend and her husband call eachother "Dear" and it sounds super forced and antiquated. Kind of makes my skin crawl, because it makes me think that they are playing house. There are other aspects of their lives that also contribute to this feeling, so maybe it's not just the "Dear." My hubby and I use "hon" and "honey."

He's pretty much "first name". Never big on the pet names and his first name isn't one that can be shortened, it is a name that's normally a nickname from a longer formal name as it is. We've been married almost 16 years and together 4 years before that.
Overall I prefer people's names over pet names or nicknames or even titles(Mr, Mrs, Ms etc). Neither my husband or I are big on them at all. The only exception is when the title is also the job description (Dr or the Mr, Mrs, Ms for a teacher) If I don't know (or remember a name LOL) I use Sweetie or the ever easy Hey You ;) Of course I'd hope to never need that for my husband LOL

We do the usual honey, baby, babe etc. But the thing we also do is call each other by our last name sometimes. Sometimes I even call him by the first letter of our last name, like if he makes an awesome sale at work I will high five him and say "way to go B!" Sometimes when I feeling in a cute or sassy mood I will even call him Mr. and our last name. :D
