You cringe at the word anyways and JFF questions?
I guess you could skip them.
I don't like tomatoes or green peppers.
I cringe when the term ANYWAYS is used and also when someone posts a JUST FOR FUN (JFF) question that is JUST intrusive, foolish. or a chance to tell a personal story.
Having been on the site for a long time, I generally skip the JFF questions but sometime can't skip the ANYWAS questions before it's TOO late.
My question IS when one has the features on their computer to SPELL and GRAMMAR check, why don't they? So many more questions would be answered if they did.
I love JO too.
PS...When caps are used it is meant for EMPHASIS!
I too make spelling and grammar errors, but when I see them, I try to correct them. Running paragraphs together on a long post makes it almost impossible to make sense of the post.

My favorite part of your question is you have at least two grammar mistakes along with one spelling mistake (Along with the over use of the caps lock)... And then you ask 'when one has the features on their computer to spell and grammar check, why don't they?'.
anyways.....
yeah, my computer didn't do diddly as i typed that. so maybe they don't know any better...
i know how to capitalize, i choose not to. i don't get paid to be on here like i do at work, so i don't put as much effort into it. and i feel people still "get" what i'm saying. so i don't bother.
maybe that's why they don't use spell- and grammar check.
i'm sure you know, writing a question like this just opens your own writing up to criticism, right?
I've asked a couple of JFF questions. I had no idea people would find them offensive in any way. I hope they weren't. I asked people whether people kids ate bologna because of some responses I saw in a previous post, and last weekend I asked if people were putting up a real or artificial tree. I considered them both just for fun, since I was only asking because I was curious what other people were doing or what they thought about something, not because I needed advice or anything. I've enjoyed answering many JFF questions myself. I never thought of using spell check, and I am aware I often make typos. I do try to correct them when I notice them, but I don't take it all that seriously.
I don't mind JFF - but depends on my mood and how much time I have on that particular given day.
I'm indifferent to anyways.
Jo: I love s'anyway :-)
Ah..just like the rest of the site, take what is good/useful/positive, and ignore the rest!
Unless I have missed it, my computer doesn't have spell check. I do my best to spell things correctly. But if they aren't spelled right, I am not going to freak out and go back and change them. I don't come on here for others to be "the grammar police ". I take what I like and what is helpful to me and leave the rest that isn't.
I don't tend to read JFF posts.
Some lingo, I will admit, drives me crazy, but I've not been above a typo or two myself. Sometimes I go back and fix it, sometimes I don't.
I see misuse of words, spelling, punctuation, grammar, all the time.
Does it make me cringe?
Only if my kids are doing it in their written communications. I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to that.
My boss enlists my help in correcting her written communication all the time. Does it make me cringe? No. She pays me to do that.
On forums such as this, you get what you get.
Often, I can't understand a post and I just bypass it. I also tend not to read the super long ones that are confusing.
But, that's just me.
I'm not here to judge anyone.
Not a fan of JFF either-so I just don't open them.
Caps (in small doses) = Italics on this board!!! We don't have command-i / control-i!!! x_X
I used to get a lot grumpier about spelling & punctuation. Then I went 7 months WITHOUT my computer (entirely on my iPhone). I freely admit I'm addicted (in a good way) to mamapedia. I couldn't lose all y'all for 7 months!!! Even now, about 2/3s of my internet access is over my phone.
My poor, abused, autocorrect. The sheer number of words it thinks are ACTUAL words because I type them so much is just sad. Then there are it's own substitutions. It's almost impossible for me to type 'love'. It keeps shifting it to 'live'. :P
Are you kidding? You have to remember that this site is used by many people from all walks of life. Possibly even people that have not finished High School, don't have a complete grasp of English grammer but still need to vent or ask about a problem or concern or inquire about a "how to." What if this was the one place that someone used to vent out about an abusive husband and received great advice just before he decided to beat her to death. You never know the strength of the post of the message or the messenger. Just ignore the ones that "irk" you and let others help.
I OFTEN times make grammatical or spelling errors, and it bugs me more than anyone realizes! I typically type out my thoughts and advice as I think it, and sometimes I miss out on the "proper" way to write my thoughts.
That said, I do get annoyed with constant use of slang vocabulary and the complete lack of spelling and punctuation. I do attribute to the use of more smart phones to post, resulting in a lack of a full keyboard and the ability to punctuation and capitalize as one should on such a forum. That is exactly why I try to avoid posting from my phone.
In the end, who am I to judge? I love this forum for the wide array of perspectives and life experiences. I take it for what it truly is.
