I was hoping there were some mothers out there who have a child with autism. I just need someone to talk to sometimes. Both of my children have autism. My lil boy alex is ten years old. He has asperger's syndrome. And my lil girl courtney is eight years old and she is diagnosed as nonverbal autistic. Sometimes it can get kinda crazy around here. And to make things better, both of them have the rotavirus!!

What can I do next?

I know exactly what you are going thru, my daughter is 11 yrs old with mild autism and she just moved in with me on Feb the 27 of this month and I didn't think it was going to be this hard and so hard to find help for her. I thought it would be easier here in the city but I was so wrong and I am very dissapointed.

I am a mother of an Autistic child too. I know what you are going through. Yes, it can get alot crazy around her, too. She is also a twin. So, yes it is double trouble. I'm lucky when I can get on here. When paige was almost one she was diagnosed. It was hard to know the truth but I got over it and started doing the only thing I could (TEACH). Right now that is all you can do. Everything is a learning process. Everything we do I try to make it a learning experience. The neurologist said that is what they need to learn. She started early therapy and now will be starting school in Sept. she really has come so far. My greatest fear is not knowing what her future will be like especially if I'm nnot here. Who will be there for her, will she beable to cope on her own? Yes, I know exatly what you are going through. There is this new research that is going on for familys with Autitic children they are doing a research in hope of finding a cure or even a better treatment it is WWW>IANPROGRAM.COM if you are interrested in signing up its just a survey from around the world. I'll be her if you want to talk about whatever . I really could use a friend for the same reasons.

Hi A.! I have an 8 year old son with Asperger Syndrome. I completely understand about needing someone to talk to! Sometimes you just feel like your the only person in the world going through this! It is sooo important to build yourself a network of support (not just family and friends) of people who have children with autism. Just someone who can say "yes, i know...we've gone through the same thing."

Please don't every hesitate to drop a line if you need someone to lend an ear or if you need info on something. I can recommend an online group that has WONDERFUL people who share wonderful information. It is a yahoo group called LaDisabilityTalk. I have met many good friends through there. I am on the executive committee for the Northwest Louisiana Autism Chapter and live in Shreveport. I attended training last year called Partners In Policymaking through the Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council (completely free -travel and childcare taken care of!) that helps you to learn the laws and how to deal with people in charge of those laws when getting things you need for your kids.

Again, nice to meet you and I look forward to talking more!

Hi A.,

I have a friend that is President of the Autism Society here locally. If you pass your number on to me I will have her give you a call. She is a great person and has personal experience as well. They have a support group kind of thing.
