Just Weaned 1 Yr Old to Milk and Confused About Feeding Schedule!

Now that my baby is on whole milk and not formula, I'm unsure as to how his eating schedule should look. He just turned 1 and up until now we've been alternating formula and solids throughout the day (so he'd be eating either formula or solids every few hours). But now that he's on whole milk and that's not really a "meal", am I supposed to give it to him WITH his actual meals as a drink? 6-8oz of milk sounds like a lot to take in with food given his tiny tummy! Or do you alternate the milk and food as I've been doing with formula?

What can I do next?

with my kids... we gave them milk, aside from meals. But really, we had no schedule to it or anything.
Milk upon waking, in between, whenever.
For us, with "meals", it was water. No juice, and no milk, because then my kids are too full to 'eat.' But if our child wanted some milk, then fine. We were pretty flexible about it.

And also, a child typically gets dairy from other sources too.

For us, my daughter would, and still does, wake up around 6:30. I give her about 6 oz of milk in a sippy cup. She sit with me on the couch or snuggled in bed during which we talk to my husband while he gets ready for work. I keep her from running around and playing bc I put her back down by 7:30 and she sleeps for about 2 more hrs. Then when she gets up around 9:30 she has bfast with water. We continue our daily routine and then about 30 min before bed she gets another 6 oz of milk in her sippy cup to sit calming and drink while I read her a book or whatever. Starting at that age, per my pedi, my daughter started on a 3 meals, 2 snacks, and 10-12 oz whole milk daily routine.
God luck! :)

Every child is different, but yes, milk should hold him in the morning if he still wakes up early.....hopefully getting more on food and milk, he will be full at night and sleep alittle longer.

I would start with giving him less milk, maybe 4 ounces at his meal, if he drinks it all and wants more, give him alittle more.........in between meals, he can have fruits and veggies, or good healthy snacks........Just make sure you don't give him so much that he doesn't want to eat his supper.......and you might want to give him a light snack before bed if there is a couple of hours or more before bedtime after he eats....

You'll get it all figured out.........hang in there......and congrats.....he's growing up! Enjoy.

Once they turn one just give them 3 meals a day and 2 snacks. I usually give my daughter milk when she wakes up and then with lunch and dinner. I try to have her drink a lot of water also. My pediatrician said no more than 16 ounces of milk per day.

When I weaned my daughter at 1, she ate three meals a day and had two snacks. She got milk at meal time, water at snack time.

Yes, give him milk when he wakes up until his breakfast is done - you might also include half of a banana. Maybe include milk with his snacks and then also some with dinner? If he is really eating, milk is not that important so don't be a slave to the oz rule. Give whole yogurt, cheese etc too and he will be fine. My daughter didn't like milk until she was almost 4! My kids just turnerd 6 and 8 and they still get milk with breakfast and dinner, juice with lunch and water the rest of the time!!!
