I had a stinky ( literally) start to the morning, and need something to make the day not suck. So i thought i would ask a question of my fellow mama's...
So what City/State do you call home? Are you a native to that state? Or a transplant? What do you love about where you live? What makes you nuts?
I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I was born & raised in NM. I Love the food. I have no idea what i would do if we moved somewhere where i couldnt smother everything in green chile. I have a love/hate relationship with the weather. I love the sunshine, but i hate the wind and the lack of winter, I love snow and we get little to none here.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for taking the time to answer! I needed something to change my attitude today! ReluctantTexan im with you on a move east. I have a lot of family along the east coast and i do get jealous when i hear they got snow...or all 4 seasons at that. As much as i love NM there are some days i wish i lived elsewhere. But much like Katie B I would need to find some where to eat that had delish mexican food. Thanks again Mamas!

Born at Fort Reilly Kansas, was there 3 weeks when Dad was transfered. Grew up in Atlanta, GA, but call home Parrottsville, TN. It took a little while to get used to small town life after Atlanta, but wouldn't trade it for anything now! Love the country life and the more animals the better. Nothing cuter than a mama hen and her brood of little chicks, or a brand new calf just trying to stand, or a little kid (baby goat) kicking up its heals and scampering around. Add to that the wonder on little childrens faces when they see the baby animals!

answers from St. Louis on

I have just recently started calling St. Louis, MO my home and I think the only reason why is because my son was born here so I've accepted my fate of probably staying here lol. Otherwise, I would still be calling it the place I live and I would be calling Dallas, TX my home. So I'm a full blown Texan and will always love and miss it. As far as what I love about St. Louis, I think I just love all the parks and trees and red brick buildings. What drives me nuts, the fact that since we're in the middle of the country, I think we get the CRAZIEST weather cause all the fronts pass through here and meet here. I hate the rain and we actually get more rain then Seattle does in a typical year. I also hate that there are like hundreds of tiny municipalities here for such a small city and that everyone wants to say "it's those people in that part of the city making everything so bad." But, those are more political things that I just do not understand and probably never will because I didn't grow up with the St. Louis mentality. Oh, and I hate that what they consider "mexican food" is really bland tacos from Taco Bell. I've only found one place I like and I think it's because the guy is a Mexican from Texas, so he gets me lol

I live in Texas, born in New York. My parents were driving across the country and ran out of gas in Texas. SO, this is where fate and poor trip planning landed me. My parents always complained and called Texas "The armpit of the universe." But I grew up thinking "Bloom Where You're Planted." I absolutely love it here. I love the food - Tex Mex, Brisket, etc. I love the weather. Hot summers, mild winters, gorgeous spring and fall. I love the area I live. I'm in a small town thats a suburb in between 2 huge cities. So, I have very little daily traffic, but am 15 minutes away from anything I could possible want to do, see, eat, or buy. Cost of living is reasonable, wages are good. People are very frinedly and welcoming. The only thing I don't like about Texas is it is so big and so spread out that to visit our relatives, we have to drive 6 hours.

CHICAGO, IL! I was born outside of Detroit, MI and moved to suburbs of the windy city when I was 8 yrs. old. I still remember being in awe of all of the skyscrapers when we first drove here on moving day. I've been in love with it ever since. I don't care for the bitter cold days in January-Feb or the super hot, humid days in the summer, but it's great other than that. My husband was born and raised here. He lived in the same Bungalow on the NW side of the city for 23 years. He would still rather be there than out in the burbs. Our retirement dream is to have a condo on Michigan Ave.

My ex and I moved to the Phoenix area from Southern California in 2003 in order to buy a big house, which was not possible in CA. Although I love the area, the people, etc, I HATE THE SUMMERS!!! When it gets hot, we literally live in the a/c or the swimming pool! We live only about an hour and a half from the mountains so we go there to get out of the heat as well as get some snow time in during the winter. So over all I'm happy...but the heat...I can do without! :o)

I was born in Canada, grew up in North Texas and California, went to college in South Texas and have lived in New York state as well.

This is a tough one because I have cherished memories and places in California, but have never really had a longing to live there as an adult. Texas is where a good deal of my extended family is and where we currently live and I have a love hate, more hate relationship with it, hate the weather, the isolation from a coast, the ever-growing border issues....so many things. I have some small town country girl in me, but I am really resistant to it. (as my name would imply) I actually feel like New York is home, it's where I am most comfortable, the weather, the culture, the East Coast just suits me.

But, Texas is where we live and probably where we will live for most of the foreseeable future. I am slowly learning, through laying down more permanent roots to love where I am and let home be about those I am surrounded by and not just the climate and the atmosphere. But I guarantee, if the opportunity to move back to New York or anywhere in the NorthEast came up, I'd be all over it! I already have visions of encouraging my son to attend college in the East!

Fun question! I struggle with this question often : - ) My husband and I are highschool sweethearts....both born and raised in the small town of Chico, CA (northern CA), lived there till we were 26. ALL of both of our families still reside there. We are the only ones who have moved away. We moved only 5 hrs north to Humboldt County, CA....for my career.

We still call "home" Chico...but LOVE it in Humboldt too. We miss friends and family and the like but will miss this place too if/when we move back. We have been here 5 years now and have a daughter who was born here, with another on the way! I can safely say that "home" is calling us louder and louder to come home each month that passes. My mom recently (3 mo ago) passed away and that really hit home that life is really to short to not be "home"...where ever that may be.

Remember when no one left "home". When everyone knew everyone, and accetped the fate that THIS is where they were to live? I miss those days! Thanks for the question : - )

I am originally from Northern California, but I live in Southern California.
The main thing that drives me nuts is traffic/roads/freeways.
I feel like pulling my hair out 80% of the time. Traffic starts at 3pm and doesn't end till 7pm, but is gridlocked around 5. It also seems we only have 2 seasons..winter and summer...and summer is the longest. It really doesn't ever seem like to be the inbetween weather of spring or fall. So I have a love hate relationship with the weather too, mainly because I hate summer, but there are ways to cool off.
I really do love it here though. Tons of things to do and see. You're never bored here, and you usually don't have to drive too far to have an adventure.
Honestly I have moved all over Nor Cal and a few places in So Cal and traveled tons in between, that I consider California my home. =)

I call wherever I live home ... Right now it is the suburbs of Chicago ... I like the quiet it reminds me of the town I grew up in in Ca ... and I have not really figured out a dislike just yet but then again I have moved so much as a kid that I have learned to love where you live not live where you love.

I live in Southern Indiana and grew up in Central Indiana. I loved the suburbs, but now am very rural. I love that I live on a farm and can actually enjoy the land around me. I love that my boys will have so many things to keep them busy in their own backyard. Nuts? That it takes 45 minutes to get to any good shops/restaurants.

answers from Chicago on

I call Cincinnati, Ohio home. I lived there for 28 years before moving to Chicago for my husband's job. I have always been a suburban girl, so moving to an extremely urban area was difficult. We have lived in the city and I'm just not a fan. I hate having to troll for a parking spot, parallel parking, and then hoping someone else doesn't ding my car. I hate that everything is on top of everything and that the only place you can get some breathing room is either at a park (where everyone and their pooping dogs are) or if you go to the suburbs. And, then if you want to do that you are in for a long car trip with unpredictable traffic. As a result, we moved to a different neighborhood still within the city limits but with more of a neighborhood feel. It is nice because we can afford a single family home (what average family has the 1.5-2 million dollars needed to buy a sf-home in a good area of the city) that has an attached garage and a yard but it is still ridiculously expensive. For example, if you cross the street you are no longer in the city of Chicago. Houses are anywhere from 25-40% cheaper simply because they are not in the 'city'. The winters are terrible, spring is non-existent (we had a freeze warning last night, for goodness sakes!), and then summer is humid.

Chicago, I think, is a nice place for me to visit but not to live. Other people manage it just fantastically but I could not imagine raising two children in a 3rd floor walk-up (our first place) or in a high rise condo (our second place) Maybe one day my husband will be a "sell-out" as he likes to put it and we will move to the suburbs, once he no longer is required to live in the city. Until then, I keep planting the seeds that we should retire to Cincinnati *laugh* - slower pace of life, everything is cheaper, etc.

LOL Suzanne - maybe we can trade?!? :)

I am divided...I grew up in Missouri and we moved my senior year in HS to Wisconsin, I then spent 10 years in Wisconsin...and moved Back "home" to Missouri...I get "homesick" for Wisconsin sometimes...I have likes and dislikes for both. It is hard to live someplace for so many years and Not put down roots...I miss a lot of friends, also and I know it sounds like a small thing but I miss stores and restaurants too!

To be more literal though...I am a "Mommy's girl" when I say "home" I mean my parents house...this drives my SO crazy ( we have been a couple for 11 plus years) he thinks when I say "home" it should be the home we share, or when I say "family" it should mean him and I and our children...when I think family I do think of us....but also my mom, dad, sister etc...maybe I have not done a good job of growing up, or cutting ties...but I love my closeness with my "family"

Boca Raton, FL is "home". I was born in Ft. Lauderdale and we moved to Boca when I was 5. My husband is also from Boca Raton. We are a military family, so we've lived all over, but FL is "home". Both sets of parents still live there.
