Hi Mamas

I am in Ireland but there is no place in the profile to list any country except America.
How worldly is Mamapedia ? or am I one of the few non-Americans among you?

I'm from Menasha Wisconsin USA. I live about 200 miles north of Chicago.

It's funny I lived in California for 10 yrs and when I said that to people, they told me that was Canada --- I said 'no there is a State in between Chicago and Canada called Wisconsin and I am from there. They actually argued with me that Wisconsin wasn't between Chicago and Canada.

(so I guess I wasn't born here because it doesn't exist LOL)

Thought I'd add a giggle for today.

answers from Las Vegas on

I was born in Athens, Greece when my parents were in the military but when I was 2 we moved to Las Vegas, NV. I've been out here since then. I do know that one of these days I'm going to go back but that may take a little while. I would love to bring my son with me so he can experience where I was born at and the history there.

answers from Portland on

I originally hail from Honolulu, but now life in tame and trendy Portland Oregon.

I think worldliness is what one brings with them to MP, and not exactly where one lives, if you know what I mean? I am Caucasian, yet I grew up in a Filipino household where parenting was fairly communal and bring that experience with me to this forum and to my perspectives on parenting and community. It was strange to move to the mainland when I was six, to see so many white faces (and so few darker ones), to not speak pidgin, to live away from the extended family and to see how many other families were not living multi-generationally. Growing up in two different cultures was very informative.:)

I love reading about families from other parts of the world and their perceptions of child-rearing. We all have something to learn from each other, don't we?

answers from St. Louis on

I grew up in unincorporated St Louis county in the north side Mehlville school district. I had planned on spreading my wings, instead I built a home on the south side of the same school district.

O well.

I guess I will live vicariously though my daughter. :p

answers from Houston on

I have moved so much growing up I'm not sure where I'm from! So, here we go:

I was born in upstate New York, my parents are from Beaumont, TX, I lived for several years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I went to high school in Westlake, OH and I moved to Beaumont, TX to go to college. I married my husband and we moved to Houston TX and then moved to Bowling Green, KY. About 7 years ago, we moved back to north Houston, (Spring) TX. I'm tired! And I didn't last 1/2 of the other places!

So, I have decided I'm from Texas!

Ruby, when I grew up in So Cal, anything east of Nevada was a vast unknown territory. I could never keep Indiana, Iowa and Ohio straight. Wisconsin was easier to locate because it was in Canada.

Ok - those of you with Irish roots - where in Ireland? I would LOL if there is an outside chance we could be somehow related! My gr-gr-gma came over during the potato famine - she died in the summer of the year I was born.

So you Irish lasses - any from Donegal? If not, where?

I am a Celt. hailing from a place called Swansea, which is on the south coast of Wales (UK) I have lived in TX for about 5 years.

I find it funny when people say they are scotch. To a Celt that is a whiskey drink, you are more likely to be Scottish, or you could say Scot. But don't say scotch. It annoys the Scots.
My MIL calls me Welch, which is also amusing, and of course, being the annoying person that I am, I tell her that I am not part of the grape juice family.
