I have 2 questions for all of you wonderful ladies to help me with.

My daughter is 2 1/2 and brushes her teeth with training toothpaste pretty regularly. Over the last 2 days she has had very smelly breath...even after brushing! She hasn't really eaten anything out of the ordinary so I'm not sure what the cause is. She seems to be feeling well and has a regular potty/bm schedule. She is potty training. Any advice on this subject is greatly appreciated!

My second question is in regards to my son's ears. He has a bath every other day and we clean his ears right after and we have tried cleaning them everyday. His ears are gross! This started within the last 6 months. He's not sick and is getting better at eating a variety of foods. He's 4 1/2 and likes the typical foods. Do some kids just have dirty ears? Is this relative to his diet? It's not really a problem but I was just curious if anyone else had gone through this. Any advice on this subject is greatly appreciated as well!
Thanks for reading. Happy New Year!

For my son excessive ear wax (and I do mean excessive) seems to correlate with food intolerance. We notice it when he eats wheat (he is gluten intolerant) and sometimes dairy. My husband has the same issue so we thought it was just genetic. When we went gluten free we noticed the ears suddenly cleared up too. If we travel or he goes to a party and has wheat - boom - the wax is back.

No advice on the breath . . . has she been on antibiotics? Could her gut be out of balance? I might try some probiotics (carefully of course).

Excess ear wax is somewhat common. Some kids have a lot of drainage. As far as your daughter, do you brush her tongue? That is where bad breath is "stored" and at the gum line. Sometimes children with bad breath, they could have a cavity. Next time she goes for a check up have them check her teeth.

2 ideas your daughters bad breath there is a virus going around that causes a sore throat. she may have it. and its not really that bothersome more annoying but no usually enough for a cough drop.

on your son my first instincts would be an ear infection.butI have 2 boys that did multiple ear infections fluid and tubes and the works. I would personally have his ears checked. and yes they can have ear infections with no pain or any other sign. my youngest had a bad one and he showed zero signs of it. no playing with the ears , not whiney, not irritable, no fever. this has been my experience. take it or leave it. :)

Ear wax- my daughter gets this (excessive and dark colored) when she eats something she doesn't tolerate. Try looking at the Feingold program and going gluten-free. Another thing I notice is that she gets more when she is exposed to mold (my old home had a mold infestation and we visited it once after moving and the earwax was back immediately!!)

The breath thing is likely and infection or possibly a cavity. Another possibility is that she could have stuck something up her nose. I would take her to the dr to have it checked.

Hope this helps!

Sometimes sinus issues can cause bad breath but it's not too early to have her teeth checked just to be sure! As for your son's ears, it's better that the wax is soft enough to move out than having it hard and stuck in there, trust me.
