Hi moms. I found out monday I have kidney stone on monday that needs to be removed. I have to wait untill the 17th of this month tho. So pain for another week! The ONLY thing thats helping my pain is Motrin (Ibprofen) Which wouldnt be bad but I have acid reflux and im worried about (stomach bleeding) they gave me vicodin and darvaset and i dont like the way that made me feel. Has anyone had kidney stones before ? Or the same problems Ive had? Know how to make the pain stoooop!:'( I havent slept in a week!

What can I do next?

Hi T.,

I have had Kidney Stones quite a few times. I'm still dealing with the last stone I had back in January. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything that you can do for the pain unless you take the pain pills. Try taking the Darvocet at night. I can't take Vicodin either, but the Darvocet I have to take at night.

I have not had kidney stones, but have had 3 major surgeries and vicodin/darvocet only made me feel worse. I was so sick to my stomach, I couldn't stand it. I finally was given ultram. This, too, is a narcotic, so it made me a little sleepy, but not too bad, I could still function. It also took away the pain without making me sick. If your doc will give you a prescription or some trials, I would first try it at night or with someone else in the house until you know how it makes you feel... it still might make you too sleepy to care for your little one. Good luck!

Dear T., I have a disease and the bottom part of my kidneys are calcified so sometimes some breaks off and moves and it is soo painful. If you have some help with your son I would take the vicodin at night and then the motrin in the day. And maybe take motrin first and then some tylonol I know it does not work as well but it might take the edge off and not hurt your stomach if you rotate the motrin and tylonol. I know that just having the stone can give me an infection and that makes me sick to my stomach. I can't beleive they are making you wait that long. Hang in there, M. Oh yeah drink lots and lots of water drink drink drink that cuts down on the pain sometimes

Hi, I'm a Nurse and work at Beaumont Hospital. I have kidney stones and it's what you might as well say after you have one because they come back. But a few tips water, water and more water. No pop and if you have to have a soda go for the clear color sodas. Also lemonade if you can believe it the acid in the lemonade helps to break stones and prevent them from forming.

Hi T.,
I truly know how you feel, I dealt with being sick for over a year, and dealing with a stint for a month, and finally on the third surgery it was determined that the kidney was not savable and it was removed, very, very important to drink plenty of water and if you can, drink Kagan Water its alkaline water, do your research on alkaline and acidic, its amazing how simply alkaline water can change your life when sickness is present, also like yourself I totally don’t like to take prescription drugs, I have found great nutritional supplements that have totally saved me, since a sever auto accident in 97, pregnant with my son, and left me disabled and wheelchair bound for over 7years, my doctors are amazed at my recoveries they never expected to see.. if you would care to talk more or hear everything I went through, feel free to e-mail me direct at ____@____.com in the subject line just put mama source so I don’t think its junk mail. I am not a person that likes to put my story out there for just everyone to read. Hang in there T., M.

Hi T..

I have had several kidney stones and for the pain I was given all different pain meds (Motrin, Darvoset, Deloded, Phentenal Patch and Methadone), but the Phentenol patch was by far the best relief. Once they take out the stone you will start to feel much better. I would see a urologist if you haven't yet...They might be waiting to see if you can pass the stone yourself. If you do pass it, keep it so they can analyze it. Take care and drink plenty of fluids!

Hi T.~
If the motrin helps and you won't take the other pain meds, then you are just going to have to take the motrin. You shouldn't have any trouble from using it short-term. Having acid reflux doesn't necessarily have anything to do with bleeding from NSAIDS. If you already take an RX for the acid reflux, keep taking it, it will help your tummy with the motrin. If you don't have an RX, ask the doc if you can try a PrevPak (its a combo pack for pain and tummy). There is also Ultram (tramadol) that is not actually a narcotic and won't give you the same feelings as heavy duty pain meds. It can make you sleepy, though, so take it at home until you know how you react. Have your doc print a copy of the PDR for that med, it will tell you the makeup.
Good luck~

Try touradol. It's a cross between motrin and vicodin. Not as harsh as the motrin on your stomach and doesn't give you the floaty feelings like vicodin. It worked well for me when I had my kidney stones.

I had a kidney stone and they didnt wait that long to get rid of it. I went to the Er on thursday the urologist friday and had it removed on saturday. When I went to the Er they gave me morphine and toradol and that took the pain away until saturday. My kidney stone was very large though. The urologist said its one of the biggest he has seen. Well good luck and I hope everything works out for you. I will be praying for you..
