Hey everyone! My son has a cold and I'm almost positive that I'll eventually get it too. I'm not a sickly person..like staying sick all the time or anything..i just catch colds, the flu, etc. when i'm exposed to it! My grandmother is the same way. So needless to say, whenever my kids are sick, I get it too!
Anyways, I was wondering if there was any kind of vitamin or something that could help prevent sickness...If you have any ideas, please let me know!

Hi D.
I have been taking Ester C for 3 years now and I do not get colds, I also put my daughter on it too when she was 11.And her doctor said it was fine for her to take it. I have a brother who has a muscle disease and he has a low immune system he takes Ester C and has for 2 years he doesn't get colds any more either. You can buy Ester C at Wal-Mart.I thought it was a joke when I heard about Ester C 3 years ago, but it is the best vitamin I have ever taken.
Ok...I was like you...got sick everytime someone got a flu or cold. Wash your hands constantly. Or use Purell. Wash your hand towels in the bathroom. Drink a glass of Orange Juice in the mornings, every morning for extra Vit. C. This helps if you start getting a cold. It cuts the cold time in half and actually your symptoms aren't as bad. Get some zinc lozenges and suck away every two hours (except bedtime). Beef up on your garlic. Roasted or capsules work best. Don't know why, but it helps. And also...drink a lot of water to stay hydrated. They also have that Airborne pill you can take. Not sure how effective it is since I've never tried it, but teachers and flight attendents swear by it. Let me know how it works. Hope everytone gets better soon.
Hey...I have the same problem. Once i had my baby i am getting sick left and right, only because you are giving all your antibodies to your child so you have to rebuild your immune system. Taking vitamin C will help alot.
Hi D.,
Try Zicam. It's a gel that you swab inside your nostrils with a q-tip. (I know, it sounds weird, but it works!) Make sure you get the one for colds and not for allergies. Use it as soon as you start to feel like you might be catching something, & continue to use it as often as recommended on the package (I think every 4 hours?) until you're sure you're not sick. I use it every time I start to get sick, & if I catch it in time, it keeps me from getting the cold. Whenever I don't catch it in time & I do still get the cold, it's not as bad as my colds used to be, & the cold doesn't last as long. This stuff really does work!
I have also heard good things about Airborne, although I have never tried it.
Good luck!
vitamins a,e,and c taken together work amazingly and if you crush them up you can give some to your kids too
and ecinaeca and golden seal. you can get all of those at any grocery store that sells vitamins.
I always take a bunch of Vitamin C and it helps. You can take up to 1000 mg per hour to prevent/fight infection.
I agree with Morgan. Also, Garlic is very helpful. You can cook with fresh garlic or take garlic capsules in addition to Vitamin C and echin.
Have you looked into chiropractic care? I am a firm believer that chiro helps your immune system. My kids and I are seriously never sick anymore.
I use vitamin c with zinc. I increase my water intake and increase my orange juice from 4 ounces to 12 ounces.
Try and get your rest. You are more likely to get sick if you are run down and tired.
echinechia(sorry about the spelling) but its supposed to be good for your immune system.
First I hope your positive that it's just a cold.My 4 yr old and my 14 month old have been sick also,I thought it might have been broncitis and strep throat,or a head cold b/c they both were having stuffy sinuses.I took them both to the doctor today and come to find out, they both have caught a sinus infection. They hav both had the strep and coach before but never the sinus infection, but my nephew is known for them.So get that checked out to make sure, according to my doctors office..alot of kids are having same problem. As for the vitamine question,I don't know of any vitamin that prevents u from getting sick. Some may boost yor immune system but usually with something that's highly contagious like strep throat vitamines may not be that effective. There i that airborn stuff, actually have a sample of it but have yet to use it.But it's suppose to boost the immune system and help prevent u from catching airborn viruses.Don't know if it works though.
Get some vitamin C and start taking it. That's what my mom and grandma always tell me. "Up your intake of vitamin C". Hope this helps
Hi D. R. I assume you are asking for a vitamin for you, not your child. My answer relates to what you can do to help yourself when your child gets sick.
When my daughter gets sick, I start taking Airborne, which is an herbal caplet that dissolves in water. Airborne is sold in most drug stores and grocery stores. They even have a nightime Airborne. I have found that if you take it as soon as a) you start to feel sick or b) your child gets sick, that it prevents a full blown illness. You may still experience some symptoms, but regular consumption of Airborn will prevent the lions share of the illness.
Other supplements that help prevent illness (to my knowledge) include echinacea, lysine, vitamin C, and zinc. Most of these can be found in the grocery or health food store.
Hope that helps!
take echinacea before getting sick, as well as LOTS of vitamin C (bell peppers have way more than a glass of orange juice). If you feel cold/flu-like symptoms, ask your pharmacist about zicam. It can be a little pricy, but it shortens the length of your illness.
D.,
I teach school and every fall and winter I take Airborne. You can get it at walmart or any drug store. It was invented by a teacher and I swear by it. One year I taught in a preschool and every child had runny noses and coughs and sneezes. My assistant and I took the airborne daily and neither of us got sick.

Airbourne!!! You can buy it at Walmart.
We are in the same boat. I have a 6 year old and three year old and a fifeteen month old.
I take multivitamins daily, but I also take an AZO cranberry pill and an iron pill. I try to take the iron pill @ 3-4 times a week. same as with the cranberry pills. Cranberry is a natural way to rid your body of irritants and bacteria. My youngest two have the sniffles now, but so far so good with my oldest, myself and my hubby.
I work in the medical field and am exposed to multiple germs yearly. This has been the best regime that I have found that it natural.
There is also something called airbourne. It is supposed to be a natural way to prevent sickness. Hasn't been on the market long that I know of, so I haven't tried it. I also don't know of anyone that has.
Good Luck and Healthy Winter!!!
