I didnt breast feed with my first and was distraught and in pain with my newborn. I spoke with Debbie whom I actually come across by accident (was looking to rent a pump- and her number was on the list my doctor gave me) she was wonderful and I ended up not needing the pump.

She gave me a phone consultation at no cost, I dont remember what the face-to-face cost was but it do remember thinking it was very reasonable.

She is so supportive and wonderful I highly recommend her. She put me on the right track and all is great now!

I often called the lactation department at St. Joseph's Womens. I also went in to see them a couple of times and they were very helpful. I also called La Leche and asked a few questions over the phone and the gal I spoke to seemed to really know her stuff. There was no cost involved and I got all of my questions answered. Also, Dr. Sears has a good website as does La Leche League. Good luck!!

Hi, the lactation consultant at Mease Countryside is named Nancy and she was great - no charge. She has a monthly support group for breastfeeding moms also. I don't recall her phone #, but if you call Mease Countryside or look on the website you can find the # for their lactation consultant.

I worked with Carol at St. Joe's Women's. It was between $50 and $75/session (can't remember) and worth every penny since my little guy wasn't swallowing and just falling asleep. I met with her twice, the first time at 6 days old, and wound up nursing until 13 months.

Check out the La Leche League website and also at Brandon Hospital (where I delivered) they have a LC for free I dont know if you have to deliver there though you could ask.

I also worked with Debbie and she was a huge help. I think her fees were about $60 an hour, if you don't use the whole hour, she prorates. It was the best $60 I ever spent!!!

I don't know where you live, but Lucille at Morton Plant Hospital in clearwater is great! They have free group meetings once a week that everyone is welcome to. ( not sure how much 1 on 1 meetings are) LaLeche League also has at least monthly meetings everywhere in the state. they are volunteers but very knolgeable and helped me a lot.

There should be one available at the hospital where you gave birth - probably for free. I don't know of anyone who charges for this service.

What part of Tampa Bay are you in?
