My son is almost 8 and my daughter just started kindergarten too. My husband is taking her to an early movie. He took my son before school started but saved hers for after. In my business to get things done, I sometimes forget that it is fun for the kids to just have me play with them. So, I played with pretend puppies and little lambs for a very long time and hide and seek, whatever she wanted. She loved it. I really liked the idea of a cake, which reminded me that on the first day (this was for both kids obviously) we had pizza day all day long. So, pizza for breakfast, dinner and dessert. My son said he'd like to do that for every first school day from now on.
Have fun!

I think I was more nervous than my two daughters were....they did not attend pre-school, so this was REALLY their "first day" of school!

Besides making a big deal out of everything having to do with that day and starting school, I also told them that I would be thinking about them all morning, and would be back to pick them up before they knew it. Then I placed a big kiss in the palm of their hand, then scrunched up their fingers to make a fist. I told them if they got lonesome or scared, all they had to do was open their hand, and put it on their cheek, and I would give them a big kiss! They would know that I was "with them" while they were at school.

I also took a picture of each of my girls, in their uniforms with their backpacks on---every first day of school--even high school and I tried for college when possible. It's a fun way to watch them grow...

Wow!! Time sure does fly. Now my oldest is new mom! And she photographs the "first" everything!!! My youngest recently bought her own house, and I gave her a "kiss" on her palm to take with her to her new place---just incase she got lonesome or scared!! They both still remember me doing this on their first day of Kindergarten. I have suggested this to many moms throughout the years, and all of their little ones liked it! I think it benefits the moms as much as the kids!! :)

We're giving our daughter a greeting card and a book about starting school. We let her pick out one new outfit to wear and we'll let her pick the dinner meal.

Hi Francesca! this is a very happy and nostalgic moment (nostalgic for mostly for us, moms, than the kids...)..I remember that the day before, I prepared everything together with my kid, his clothes, the lunch box (he chose it at the store), and his favorite stuffed animal. The night before, we read a book about school, and he enjoyed it a lot! The next morning everyone woke up so early, and I prepare a nice breakfast for my kid (pancakes, fruit and milk, his favorite) and daddy, myself and Alex went off to school. We took pictures at the entrance with his teacher. I was very emotional, but he was thrilled! I put a little note in his backpak (" We loved you so much, be nice, use your magic words and have fun!!!!!)
He came back from school very happy, and I had a small cake for him and we celebrate all of us and we talked a little bit about school. My husband gave him colorful pencils and erasers and a little something that goes on the top of the pencil...it has been on his pencil since then (lol)!
Enjoy these moments!

Good Morning Francesca, Our son's walked to school in very small town. I took their pictures with all their stuff, took a picture of them walking down our sidewalk, the street, then walked with them to their class. Took pictures of their class room and teacher, children that were there already. ( At that time they still had polaroid stantamatic cam's)
After I went home, I made a banner with their pictures on it, with captions and waited for them to come walking home. (I waited outside to watch them) Took their picture again and placed it on the banner. They took lunch so I had placed a Napkin in thier sacks with a Big Red Heart in the middle of it.

They either had a small cake just for them or a plate of cookies to celebrate their first day of Education.

There are a lot of things you can do for your little Princess.

God Bless you & yours
K. Nana of 5

We made a big deal about shopping for our school supplies and clothes. Both my kids picked out their own backpacks and I let them choose what they wanted to wear (even down "special underwear" and shoes). The night before we read stories and talked about going to school and how exciting it was/would be and made breakfast plans. Got the kids up early for their showers, dressed and had their breakfast. The night before I had decorated the front door with the Crayola window markers and drew a bus with 2 kids on it and said "Good luck going back to school! Love Mom & Dad" The kids thought it rocked. I took pictures of them on the front step by the door, drove them to school, and kissed them goodbye at their doors. They were far more excited to see their friends then they were in saying good-bye to me! LOL...

When they come home, we'll have cookies & conversation so I can hear all about what they did at school and the new friends they made.

Michele D - omg, I just read your post and it made me cry! How sweet! I can't imagine when my girls are old enough to go off on their own let alone have children of their own. Puts everyday with my little ones into perspective. ;)

I actually didn't have a kindergarten kiddo this year (next year and every other year after.. for a few more years, lol). My daughter when to first grade and we had some special cookies (crayola crayon cookies!) planned out to make as a first day of school after-school snack. ;) And the usual big back to school shopping, of course.
