Leaking Diapers!!

Hi. I have a 4 month old baby girl and I'm breastfeeding her. No solids yet. She eats about 8 times a day and we change her diaper constantly. (8-10 times a day). My problem is that she has EXPOLSIVE poops, they arn't painful to her. She is constantly pooping through her diaper. We were using huggies and then switched to luvs. Neither are keeping the explosions contained. Should I switch to cloth diapers? Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi,

My daughter had the same issue! I tried the different brands and found that nothing kept the explosive poos in quite like pampers. I realized that their leak guard is much higher than the rest of the brands for some reason. I realize that Huggies has a triple leak guard, but it's short and did absolutely nothing to keep stuff in (not to mention the stink more for some reason). We used pampers until pull ups and they were always the best.

i can't remember when the explosive poops stop! i think it was when we introduced solids. i've tried every diaper under the sun. pampers worked for us, i found that the costco "kirkland" brand is comparable, and way cheaper! also, i used a size larger to help contain the poopies, it seemed to help. and i still have my son in super large diapers for nighttime. good luck!

Hello, I used pampers. They were the only diapers that contained the explosive episodes. They are shaped differently and they seem to hug the legs and bum area. The swaddlers is what I used and then went up from there. The cruisers once your child is a bit older work wonders for crawling and walking kids. I would give them a try. It just may work for you as well. Plus, they are less expensive as well.
Hope it works!

I don't think cloth will help you (sometimes you even get more diaper rash with cloth since they don't wisk away the moisture). Are the Huggies small enough for her? We have used Huggies for our kids and they seemed to work well but if we had them in a size too big (where the elastic wouldn't do it's job), we had similar issues.

Hi,

I am a new mom of a 6 week old. He's breastfed and eats alot. From day 2 he's had more than 6 BM's a day and many of them are explosive. During a 2 or more fart poop many times the huggies or pampers swaddlers would leak out his back. We switched to cloth after his umbilical cord fell off. I think we've only had 1 or 2 poop on cloth accidents with cloth. The main problem with cloth is having to wash the covers. I would recommend at least 7 or more covers. Make sure the diaper is inside the elastic. Also, the snappi plastic clip makes the diaper easier to put on and contain pee leaks (at least that's what I've found.)

We used cloth diapers with plastic covers and didn't have any problems. But when we went on a trip (and had to use disposable) we had the same problem. Tidee Didee is the diaper service in town. Or you could just try adding the outside cover.

Haha! My son was exactly the same way. I tried every type of diaper, nothing made a difference. Hang in there, once you introduce solids things will get better. :)

We had a few explosive poos from our nearly sixth month old baby boy. I found the Pampers Swaddlers to be the best nighttime diaper and recommend Seventh Generation during the day. I don't know if there is a guarantee with any diaper when the poo isn't quite firm so I'd recommend tracking the time of the poos for a few days. If you can find any sort of pattern you might be able to head off Catastrophic Diaper Failure (known in our house as CDF) by having your child in a standing position around the time of the normal poo and immediately taking said child to the changing table once you hear the deed is done.

Cloth diapers might be more absorbent but they could also be slightly more irritating to your baby's bum.

I tried Pampers, they can still leak but after trying many different kinds, they were the better choice. I eventually switched back to huggies. The baby shaped ones, not the regular ones.

Hi N.,

I certainly can empathise, as my daughter had quite a few explosive poops. The only diaper that worked for us was Pampers.

Another thing to invest in is fragrence free Oxy Clean (the powder). If the stains don't come out in the wash by adding oxy clean, then you soak it overnight in water and oxy clean. That stuff is great!

I hope this helps...
