I do not know from personal experience, but I hear good things about elance.com. You do have to compete against companies from other countries for some jobs, but I am still going to try it myself.
Hi Moms,
Has anyone worked from home for a legitimate company? There are so many companies out there and it's hard to tell who is legit and who's not. I am not interested in home party companies at all. I have tried that before, and failed miserable. I am no salesperson. I want something that I can do in the evenings from my home PC. Has anyone done medical billing/coding? Do you have to take a course first? So, if anyone has had success with something like this, and can give me an idea of the earning potential, I would appreciate it!

Yes. I currently work full time but have recently partnered with Work At Home United. It is not a direct sales (parties) type of business. Let me know if you want more info.
I did see Michelle B's post..it really isn't confusing at all although you do learn more as you go. It is NOT a scam...it is a legitimite work at home business w/ great support system in place. Melaleuca has been in business for 25 years and operates debt-free. They strive to help others do the same.
A lot of the "Work At Home" things are sales. You have to sell to your friends and family and do parties.
If you want to do medical billing/coding, then look for courses through your local community college. I wouldn't go with an online "school" only because they lack accountability. Community college can show you what you might be eligible for as far as financial aid and what the real possibilities are for your future.
hi Suzanne
Medical coding is the hot job right now. It takes good memory skills, analyzing, and a love for finding the right code. kind of a crossword puzzle of numbers sometimes. you need to be able to combine different codes also. a good friend of mine is a coder, and you are right, you need to go to an accredited college . she has a certificate saying that she is a certified coder. she works at a hospital and also at home. great to get an internship and learn for experience. it is a little more detailed than billng, but usually pays more. if you like figuring things out, look into it. she loves it.

I searched high and low, for a legit stay at home job. I couldn't find one!! I also failed at selling. Those are the only legit jobs, that I could find. Most involve selling items, and the medical coding/data entry jobs require money upfront for training. ( money for "training" = scam). Short of working for a regular company, that eventually lets you work a home, I don't think any of the stay at home stuff is legit.
PS. I looked into work at home united and it was very confusing. They have something to do with melaluca and reeked of scam.
I wish I knew!!
I'm in the same boat!
Can't stand the MLM jobs, I know I won't do em. Not interested in Mary kay, Avon purse parties etc. All I know is I'm always looking for something Legit that I can actually DO from home without too much hassle.
