It's been years since I did this. But I would start with asking your local fire fighters if they have someone they can come out and check over your electrical and fire exits. I would hate to see you get far into the process and find out you have big issues that need changed. You would be surprised by how many people in brand new houses get blindsided with major changes that need to be made.

You can contact you local DHS and let them know you are trying to get licensed. They will send you information that contains everything you need to know. I'm not sure how it is in Missouri, but in Oklahoma it's fairly easy to get licenced. Best of luck!

This has the handbook you will need to read to get license and tells you the regulations. You might have to check with the local office to see if you have to attend a meeting before being licensed. In Kansas you must attend an informational meeting where they give you all the forms and discuss them with you before you can be licensed.
