The best thing that I have found that dissolves blood stains is Palmolive Antibacterial dish soap. You put some directly on the stain... rub it in... put the item in some water to soak for about a day. Then wash as normal. It has gotten blood out that had gotten on bed sheets of one of my children and they had not told me about it until a week later. Came out like it had never been there.

Put a little detergent on it and rub the fabric against itself. If detergent doesn't work then saliva tends to do it ...

I've had luck with hydrogen peroxide. Test the fabric of your comforter first to make sure it won't bleach the color, but it gets blood out of most fabrics without bleaching. Good luck!

Hi K.-
Hydrogen peroxide has always worked well for me. I've never used it on something as large as a comforter, but when it's an article of clothing I usually stretch the stained portion of the material over a small bowl and tie it down with a rubber band. Then I pour small amounts of hydrogen peroxide over the stain until it comes out, alternating with cold water. It usually comes out within a couple rinses w/ the peroxide and water. Hope this helps!

A cold water soak/wash works for me (my husband is a veterinarian....)
DO NOT USE HEAT (hot water or dryer) until it is gone, or it sets it.

Hi K.,
I've had good luck with hydrogen peroxide--then you can pop it in the wash if it's washable!

hydrogen peroxide works wonders. and make sure to never use warm/hot water on blood - it will set the stain immediately and eternally! cold water is the only way to go.

Hydrogen peroxide is best but might take the color out. I would test a small area first. I have also had really good luck with shout. Sometimes just plain ice cold water will work too. Good luck!

Hydrogen peroxide. Pour a bit on the stain. Let it bubble. Blot it up. Repeat until the stain is gone. Best of luck.

Oxy clean does pretty well on blood stains. Spit also works. A person's spit can dissolve their own blood. It probably wouldn't work on your comforter, but I thought I'd share. Good luck.

Try hydrogen peroxide. Pour it on the stain and let it sit, sometimes you need to scrub it a little before throwing in the wash.

Hydrogen peroxide. If left on too long, it can lighten the color. Rinse with cold water.

When my twins were newborns we were getting shots at the Pediatricians office and some blood got on their on their onesies. The nurse recommended hydrogen peroxide. She dabbed it on the spots with a q-tip and gently rubbed it off. She did say that it usually only works on fresh blood but I personally have used it on other occasions. Hope this helps :o)
