Little Girls First Birthday!

I would do a theme for her birthday. Themes are always fun and I think it makes the planning a little bit easier. For my daughter's first birthday we had a care bear theme and I think it worked out really well. You can find a ton of theme stuff geared towards a first birthday.

I'd say keep it pretty low key. They'll have the most fun squishing cake in their fingers. Invite the grandparents, but remember too many people and she'll be spinning off her rock at an overwhelming speed. you can always video tape it for others to see. We made cupcakes instead of a cake. it was just the perfect size for 1 candle (we blew it out, but set it out in front of her for picture sake) and for little hands to mangle. She won't remember it specifically and will easily tire out with too much going on

For our daughter's 1st birthday last year, we did do a theme. She loves puppies! So we did a puppy theme, Clifford to be exact. We did the works, but in moderation. We didn't want to over stimulate her. We just did the plates, cake, ballons and streamers. Just very simple. We didn't invite too many people. Basically, we just invited family that was in town and a friend of mine who has 2 sons her age. It was fun and she seemed to enjoy it! Good Luck!!!

For my daughters 1st bday! We had everyone over to have snacks and cake. I had a theme and I made her a special cake for her to eat with her hands. I guess this bday is really for you and your family because she really isn't going to know what is going on! So make it fun for everyone.

J., I have two children one 5 and one 3. For both of their first birthdays I made a really big deal, had a theme with matching decorations and cake. I invited both of my husbands and my families (I have 6 siblings he has 5) and a few close friends. I thought after my daughters (5) 1st birthday it was WAY too much. She really didn't know what was going on and was extremely overwhelmed. (I did it for my son only because I wanted to treat them the same.) I would suggest to have a low key 1st birthday and wait until her 2nd or 3rd birthday to have bigger celebration because that way maybe she can enjoy it more and remember her special day!

My daughter just had her first birthday and what we did for both of our girls is to make the first party more for the adults. :) We had hors d'oeuvres, beverages and cupcakes for everyone! It was very low key but fun for everyone. Good luck and happy birthday to your little one!

In my husband's family it is tradition to do a huge first birthday, so that's what we did for both of our children. It really is more for the parents and family to celebrat the baby's first year so I say go all out if you want to or keep it simple. I always go all out with a theme, decorations, all of it! I love to plan parties though. My kids always have an all out party every year, we just don't invite EVERYONE like we did for the first. Have fun planning and take lots of pictures!!

I kept both of my girls' first birthdays pretty low key. They surely wouldn't remember all the matching or themed decorations, and I wanted the day to enjoyable for me, too! :) I knew there was the possibility for lots of toys and "stuff," so on the invitations, I suggested that relatives write a letter for the birthday girl rather than bring a gift. I was pleasantly surprised--everyone wrote one, and I can't wait to give these letters to the girls at a later birthday as a gift.
