Loestrin 24 BCP Users- When Do I Get My Period????

I had breakthrough spotting all the time with that BC. I hated it!

I hated Loestrin 24, despite following the directions religiously. I took it at the same exact time every day yet would have breakthrough bleeding every 2 weeks. I never knew if the period was coming or going. It was a hassle! Fortunately my husband got a vasectomy shortly thereafter and now I don't have to worry about it.

I take it and love not getting my period. I haven't gotten it in 3 months. As a procaution, I do take a pregnancy test every couple of months to make sure, but I get the test at the dollar store. In the beginning when I took it, I wouldn't get my period until the 2nd or 3rd day after not taking the white pills and then have it for a day or two while going back on the white pill. My period got lighter and lighter until I don't get it anymore. I may get some spotting around the time of my period, but that's it. I was on ortho-cyclen for many years and got my period every month. The ortho-cyclen also helped with my severe cramping that I got every month. Just a suggestion if you want an alternative to Loestrin.

Friends, you never get a "true" period (shedding of unused uterine lining that is created when you release an egg) while taking a birth control pill as you are not ever ovulating. What you have is withdrawl bleeding from not having hormones (placebo pills) timed to correspond with when your period would normally be. I'm in the process of switching away from using Loestrin as well - the mid-monthly breakthrough bleeding (it is a low dose hormone - enough to keep you from ovulating, but not enough to prevent some people from having that bleeding) was way more than just spotting. It was more like a flow (would need to use tampons/pads for several days). And it was never consistent when this would occur...and then for the 4 brown placebo pills (when you are *supposed* to have your "period") was often very light (and yes, sometimes non existent), but would often still occur, so then i felt like i was bleeding during the month way more than i wanted to be!!
Just got a prescription for Ortho Cyclen - a stronger dose of hormones - let's see if this one works better for me!!

You and me both, but I figured it was all "getting used to" a new pill. I haven't had a regular cycle for a while now, with the mini pill and nursing, so no cycle is fine with me, just as long as I know what to expect. Didn't think to ask about it when I saw the doctor in the first place.

Loestrin can cause you to have faint or no periods. I used it for a year and hated it. My period would disappear for months and then show up expectantly in the middle of some random month, extra heavy. I also got pregnant on this pill and I took it religiously at the same time each day. I have friends who love it . It just didn't work well for me.
