I have an idea for my daughter's cake for her first birthday party, but need some recommendations for a good custom cake person in the area. I don't want grocery store cake (no offense to grocery stores, but I want my sugar calories to be great!). I would prefer to get a taste test as well. Any suggestions Mamas?
Tart!!! on Lover's Lane or Shop's at Legacy in Plano. They just did the most beautiful and tasty cake for my daughter's 4th. I chose them b/c after a year of going to nearly 20 birthday parties with my daughter, that was the best cake I had.
I bought a gorgeous cake from Outta the Oven @ MacArthur & 635. They did a custom sponge bob cake to my specifications. The also do shaped cakes. It was a so yummy, made from scratch, white chocolate flavor!
Sugar Queen in Lake Dallas is an up and coming custom shop that does very good work. They are currently being courted by The Food Network for the show Cupcake Wars. They are also in the midst of opening up a new shop at the Shops of Willow Bend by Neiman Marcus later this month. Lisa is the owner. Tell her L. Welch sent you.
I know it is about a 15 minute drive, but Candy Haven in Denton is the best. They have many cake flavors to choose from and the cakes for kids are so cute. I just bought one for my son's 3rd birthday-white chocolate cake with buttercream icing. Also, they can put anything you want on the cake as far as decorations go.

Society Bakery in Dallas on Greenville Ave. does a great job on 1st bithday cakes.

I second Candy Haven in Denton. They did my wedding cake and that's where I'll be going for our daughters 1st bday cake.
i have a friend who makes awesome cakes and she lives there in lewisville,, she has some pics on her face book page but it has been a while since i looked at them... she is very creative and can draw and create almost anything you give her. she is more than willing to do a taste test too,, she works out of her home.. her strawberry cake is to die for :) im not sure if it copied correctly but i tried to copy her facebook link here... if it doesnt work it is under kimmys kakes out of denton :)
** actually i think she doesnt live in lewisville anymore but she works her "full time job" in denton and is all over the area all the time.. she is actually doing my daughters cake this weekend and i am so excited to see how it turns out,, it is suppose to look like an open book :) so keep your eyes open for pics on her facebook :)

We used Stein's at 635 and Preston (in the terry costa shopping center) for my son's 1st birthday. They did an awesome 3 tier cake with blue frosting, large poka dots, and an ark (Noah's) and animals make out of modeling chocolate. It was so cute, yummy, and reasonable priced compared to the other quotes we got.
