Hi ladies!
I need your help.
I’m looking for a pediatrician (or family doctor who takes small children under 3 y.o.) in Garland, Plano or Richardson, who does NOT force immunization, and who is actually a good doctor…
Thank you for any suggestions or comments.

We are currently uninsured, but when we had insurance we saw Dr. Sean Parker at Benchmark Medicine in Rowlett:

http://www.benchmarkfamilymed.com/

We have been seeing him for about 3 years. We have chosen to no longer vaccinate b/c my youngest went into shock when he had his 4 month old shots - and Dr. Parker has always been supportive. We are also a homeschooling family, and he is very supportive of our lifestyle as well. All 4 of our children, plus dh and I see him (he is a family practitioner). We have been to him for everything from allergic reactions to penicillin, to a broken leg, to my husbands gastritis!

The biggest thing I appreciate about Dr. Parker is that he respects ME, he respects that I am mom, and ultimately all of their healthcare decisions are my final choice. He presents me with my options, and asks what I want to do. I have never had a dr who gave me that courtesy and respect.

We literally adore him, as he has always treated our children so well, and always puts their best interests first! When my youngest (who is allergic to dairy and at the time soy also) was sick and could not hold down an antibiotic (b/c most infant antibiotics have dairy and soy and they caused him to vomit) - he worked so hard to help me find one that was dairy/soy free -- he was coordinating with the pharmacist and we had to call manufacturers b/c the pharmacist just could not grasp the fact that the medicines had "food" in them!

He always takes the time to speak with us, and does not just "band-aid" a problem, he always gets deeper to figure out the cause - my husband had problems with gastritis for years (we did not know that is what it was) and had been to several drs and the ER three times for it (we thought it was food poisoining?) -- Dr. Parker was the only person to run a simple blood test and diagnosed him - now he has medication to take at the first sign of spasms!

Needless to say, I think he is a great dr and I hope my family gets medical soon - we have stayed away from dr's almost completely b/c I do not want anyone else in the world to treat my children (obviously if they've needed to go to the dr I've taken them) - b/c he is the only dr I have found that looks at them individually and does not hurry through exams to get a patient out the door, he knows them, knows their history, and respects them!

Dr. Chris Clark at North Garland Family Medical Center. He is my doctor and I just LOVE him. I am currently 18 weeks pregnant and I totally plan on taking my baby to see him when the time comes. I also plan to delay/seperate immunizations. I absolutely recommend him. He is awesome!

Anuradha Agrawal, MD near Baylor Dallas
###-###-#### - 3310 Live Oak St, Ste 400, Dallas, TX

Also Dr. Bain in Frisco per below. My friends and I use the above doctors.

Dr. Agrawal is open to alternative/no vaccination, etc, but you just have to tell her or she assumes you want the regular course.

I REALLY wanted to go to Dr. Chartrand as per the other person's comment, but it was too far of a drive and my insurance does not take "out of network" providers. Bummer! He would have been my first choice for sure.

We love our pediatrician! He saw my daughter in the NICU at Medical Center of Plano before she was born and has been absolutely wonderful since!

Dr. Scott Katz
NW corner of Coit and 15th St in Plano
###-###-####

He obviously has a very busy practice and needs to keep to a schedule, but if you express any concern at all or want to ask him anything, he puts all his stuff down (if he was about to leave) and intently listens to you. He will answer any question without rolling his eyes or implying that it was silly or any number of things. He's often told me not to worry about "stupid" questions because there's no such thing as a mother - it's our job to take care of our children.

I think once we waited about 5 minutes for our appointment and he apologized profusely for the long wait! It's only happened once.

They also have the sick vs. well entrances and waiting areas.

He also has walk in hour in the mornings.

I can second Dr. Parker. We've seen him a couple of times when our regular guy, Benny Mrnustik, was out of the office. All of the people we've dealt with, from receptionist up to docs, have always been never less than friendly.

Like I said, our regular guy is Dr. Mrnustik & he's awesome with the kids. He's a family doctor, but he really is so great with the kids. He always takes time to speak with them & make them comfortable. He doesn't ever just breeze through appts. His nurses are fantastic, as well. I don't know his attitude toward immunizations.

Good luck with your decision!

L.,

Before my son was born I too, took on the arduous search for a pedi that wouldn't give me a hard time about our decision to not vaccinate. Couldn't find any doc that would even see our son due to that decision except all the way out in Oak Cliff at Methodist. But, I now know of Dr. Deborah Bain in Frisco. She's the only one that I currently know of in the DFW area that will not force, berate, lecture or even bring up the vaccination issue if you tell her that's your decision. She will even do an alternative schedule if that's what you desire as well. She'd be a hike for you, but if it's worth not getting talked down to like your a bad parent, then I would definitely see her. She even knows about nutrition, what a concept!!

Dr. Chris Clark is amazing! We switched our then infant to his care when we had a bad experience with our pediatrician. He takes time to listen to your concerns and treats you like a person. He is great with the kids (we have 3 boys 5-9 yrs old) and takes time to play with them and build a relationship with them.

He just switched to a new practice and is located in Garland at N. Garland Rd and 190 in the Wal-Mart parking lot. His office number is ###-###-####.

He is not in your requested areas but will be well worth the drive to McKinney. Dr. Daniel Chartrand - http://www.harmonyfamilyhealth.com/. He is our family doctor and is wonderful with the kiddos. Dr. Chartrand has many natural healing suggestions and does not just pull out the prescription pad to solve a problem. Good Luck!

I like Pediatric and Adolescent Associates; however, I do know that they are big in preventive care which includes immunizations. You may just want to call them to see what their policies as it relates to immuniations before you make a decision. i know some doctors are more willing to work with patients regarding immunization schedules. Good luck.

Not sure about immunizations, but I LOVE Steven Crow in Richardson at Floyd & Arapaho. He's older & experienced & doesn't get all worked up about things- very common sense. I have friends with teenagers who will tell me he was their child's doctor & they still love him.

I knew of a few doctors who used to allow their patients to choose not to be immunized, but I dont know of any who will still take patients who refuse immunization.

I'm a speech pathologist, so we work with a lot of Autistic children whose parents choose a less aggressive immunization schedule for their Autistic child and other siblings. They still get immunized, but they choose a different immunization schedule. Someone mentioned Steven Crow. He is a great doctor and is very practical. I believe he is willing to follow the less aggressive immunization table. I'm not sure he would support not immunizing your child at all, but I do think he'd work with you on the schedule. My pediatrician who is in the same building as Dr. Crow is Dr. John Porter, and I believe he would as well. My kids have been immunized, but their schedule was tweaked just a tiny bit. He was very willing to hold off at my slightest concern that my son had a runny nose...

Please reconsider Jeffrey Komenda. I would never refer anyone to his practice. The wait time is LOOOOOONG...his bedside manner, atrocious! He never looked me in the eye and since he prescribed the wrong medication for my situation, clearly, he wasn't paying attention!
